Anyone consider that the bending problem is due to ghosts???

Well, if you don't believe this video then you truly really are living in denial, brave kids, but typical teenager behaviour doing this I guess, there's a bit of swearing in the video too.

I don't think anyone is denying that a phone will bend when you are purposely trying to bend it, and if you apply enough force. EVERY test, including Apple's own and Consumer Reports, finds that phones bend when enough force is applied.

The CRITICAL QUESTION is: will these phones bend in normal use by reasonable people?

The answer is: NO.

Look at the video the kids made: they tried repeatedly to bend the phones. They failed the first time, and it took several tries to get it to bend slightly. After the first try, the aluminum had already been fatigued and compromised.

All this video proves is that there are idiots out there in the world, with no regard for other peoples' property, and who will do anything for a little bit of fame.

I have an S5 sitting right in front of me, next to my 6+. I am willing to bet that the S5 is actually easier to bend. However, being made of plastic, I am also guessing the S5 will bounce back into its original form. But given enough force, I am willing to bet I can bend the S5 to the point where the screen separates or cracks.

Who cares?

If I pull on my rearview mirror hard enough, it will break off. Same with my door handle.

These things are supposed to operate within NORMAL USE. Having owned the 6+ for a week, there is NO WAY it is bending with normal use, including being in my pocket.

Actually some on here ARE refusing to believe these bending videos claiming the ones by Unbox Therapy as false, and YES the phone will bend under normal use as every video shows, it does NOT take a lot of pressure to bend the device, that's the problem.

You need to watch the video again because they bent it on the first try, then repeatedly bent it.

I had a feeling this kind of stuff would happen.

Next I wonder what kind of security measures Apple will employ in their stores. If Apple does nothing, there will probably be more of this kind of vandalism, people will start seeing bent phones on display at Apple stores, which will keep a spotlight focused on the issue. If Apple were to mandate an employee be present while any person is handling an iPhone 6/6+, people will ask why, Apple will respond because of the "bending vandalism", which will also keep a spotlight focused on the issue.

Either way, if "bendgate" moves to this stage of in store vandalism, from people who think they are doing a "service", it's bad for Apple by keeping the story alive.

P.S. I am not saying there is not a bending problem either.

The problem with the consumer reports test is they are trying to bend the phone in the middle, that's not where the body is compromised. It's compromised in the upper third of the phone where there is a cutout for the volume buttons. The fact that those kids could bend it so easily should tell you it is easily possible, they look very young and obviously not that strong. I wish they had been caught by the Apple staff doing that though, little turds should be forced to pay for them.

That's not normal use. And if it is for you, then you might want to buy insurance for everything you own.

Like I said: apply enough force to your rear view mirror in your car, and it will break off. #SnapGate.

When it comes to "will these phones bend in normal use by reasonable people?" I'm not willing to say definitively that the answer to that is NO. Why? It's still a little too early to rush to judgement in my opinion.

I expect that this issue will prove to be way overblown, but you never know.

My iPhone 6 seems rock solid and I don't expect any issues.

Am I going to try to intentionally break my phone? No, I'm not an idiot.

I will do what I do with everything that I buy – use it as intended. My iPhone 6 will continue to live in my front left pocket just as my previous phones have. No case, (for now anyway, though I may eventually buy one, it's a bit slippery)

If I have an issue with the day to day durability, I'll let Apple know and I'll even post it in the forums.

I love how the younger generation will believe some 30 year old teenager, who thinks that his youtube video will change peoples minds about a product.

The power of videos or images that quickly move around the world through the internet or network television is undeniable. Videos and pictures are definitely influencing (even changing) people's minds or at least forming initial opinions, regardless if those opinions are correct or not. People believe what they see.

Remember the videos of the Rodney King beating in Los Angeles years ago, those videos triggered massive riots in Los Angeles. How about the video of the student in China's Tiananmen Square defying a tank, that had a massive impact on the minds of people all over the world.

The bottom line, history has proven over and over that videos and pictures absolutely have a HUGE impact on forming/changing people's minds. People seeing constant videos and pictures of bent iPhones, for better or worse, is having an impact (e.g., changing/forming) people's minds.

Normal use is putting the phone in your pocket, looking at how little force is required to bend the device at it's weak point, then I do believe in normal use the iPhone 6 Plus is going to bend eventually. And I am talking about front trouser pockets, not back pockets.

I’m asking myself if you are deliberately missing the point.

I'm not, but you will have to take my word for it. :)

brave kids, but typical teenager behaviour doing this I guess

Destroying property in a retail store while filming isn't brave, it's stupid. Particularly if you include your face in the video then proceed to post in on the internet lol.

Something I'm sure Consumer Reports is well aware of.

I pay very little attention to them, because there's no way you can trust them really.

Of course in BBs case it's painfully obvious lol.

So in the interests of being open why did they not mention it?
They could have ended the article with, “Amongst other things, plastic phones will bend and return but because aluminium phones are subject to the effects cumulative stress, we will revisit this test in six months."

"Hey... let's video ourselves committing a crime and then post it on YouTube!"

Brilliant

Aw good for you. You made a guess. I've been using my phone exactly how I have used all my other phones. It's fine, and nothing suggests it will bend.

Have you handled the phone before, or are you basing your opinion off of videos and pictures you saw on the internet?

If the only thing I had was my own ignorance, and internet vids and pics, I'd probably think the phone was as malleable as a coke can.

The only problem is that in reality, it is not. It's actually really solid.

I agree with this completely. Look, I've owned just about every single iteration of the iPhone and I have never. I repeat, I have never - ever - sat on my phone or placed it in a position where it might have suffered damage (except for dropping it a few times, but that's a different issue). These phones are fine for the environments they were designed for.

Wrong. We have numerous commenters on this very thread with iPhone 6 Pluses that bent in normal use.

As for the kinds failing the first time, then bending it easily, that's the nature of aluminum. Stress is additive. The phone could be fine for months in a pocket but when it finally bends very little stress would be needed.

Yeah, and I know all of them, they are not telling the truth, they said so to me in person the other day, and my best buddy was there as a witness. True story.

It's a conspiracy, man! Quick, adjust your aloominium hats before they beam iPhone bendy beliefs into your head!

Wait, the rays are still penetrating...the aloominium hats are TOO THIN! Damn you, Jony!

#GAPGATE :D
the Galaxy Note 4 may be suffering from quality control issues, where the phone’s large screen doesn’t quite meet the edge of the body. In some photographed cases, the gap is large enough to fit in two pieces of paper, or a business card.

I found it disturbing how little force they used to bend that phone.

Aside from that, the sandy haired chick focused on when talking to the Apple droid is HOT.

That's hardly 'a little force'. Look at his hands shake, the little **** used all of his strength to do that.

Many a petty criminal have been busted by stupidly posting evidence of their misdemeanours on youtube. Hopefully this kid and his mate Danny (how dumb have you gotta be to actually name the guy) will be disciplined for their stupidness.

Their sole intention was to damage the phone. When **** number one couldn't initially do it, his little mate Danny gave it ago.

As has been said before, anything is breakable with enough effort. Vids like that don't prove anything.
