1. iPhone teardown shows a structural reinforcement design flaw that creates a pivot point too close to the volume button discontinuity.

A supposed flaw that was never verified by a trusted third party, just a best guess scenario.

2. CR report finds that the 6+ is significantly less resistant to bending than leading competitors and the 5S.

Less resistant to bending does not mean its prone to bending in a real use situation.

3. Videos of people using their hands to bend iPhones. Obviously not "normal use," but in these videos the phones bend in exactly the same way as those reported bends in the wild.

Yep, thats not how an iPhone is normally used.

I've had an iPhone 4 for 2 years, then iPhone 5 for 2 years. Always use a case and put it in my front left pocket. They both looked like new when I sold them.
Got the 4.7" 6 on launch day, and immediately put it in an Apple silicone case.

When the bending stories came out, I thought it was just a few people who had mistreated their phones, but just to check, I took mine out of the case and put it on a flat surface. It was perfectly flat, this was last Thursday I think.

I tried it again last night, and it's very slightly bent, not towards the rear but towards the screen. (I always put it screen side out in my pocket) You can't tell by looking at it, but if I put the screen on a flat surface, I can push the middle of the phone down, less than a millimeter, but still noticeable.

For now it's not enough to bother getting it exchanged, but I'm OCD with my phones and it still bent a little after only a week. It could be a defect with the aluminum in a certain batch, but if they're all this way, Apple will be exchanging alot of phones in the future.

Well according to this board.... you must be a Samsung plant!!! :D

Either that or a Fat 'Murican

BTW, the numerous comment was not intended as a jab at you

I feel great, thanks for checking. I have an iPhone 6 and I love it. Looks like you feel great too. That's awesome for a Monday!

I agree with your post. I've not seen a bent phone in the wild either. I too would wonder what stress was used to cause it to bend... Because well, everything will break under enough stress.

Nah man, I did take it as a jab at me. And btw the "feel better?" Wasn't for you, just general to ALL iPhone 6 & 6+ owners.

I don't own a single Samsung product, and I'm Canadian. ;)

A bit disappointed in Apple, they should've made these things slightly thicker and have them comparable in strength to the 5/5S.

I found it disturbing how little force they used to bend that phone.

Aside from that, the sandy haired chick focused on when talking to the Apple droid is HOT.

I tried this also with just using a little bit amount of force at a Apple Store.it did not bend.and that was good for me to order a 6+Of course if I were to business with all my might I probably would've beat the crap out of it but I can also do that with a iphone 5S

Well, I sat on my phone today against an edge of a chair. Following bendgate thought I lost a lot of money.mtook my phone out, brand spankin new. Not even a tiny bend. Guess I don't have to worry about it much.

I don't believe this FANDROID'S but... I have to ask. Which one do you have? iPhone 6 plus?... You know... Following all these fake bending videos I was scared to even applying pressure on mine when taking the Spigen case off. Sigh.

Sorry, but I just find this statement offensive. You're essentially calling a lot of people liars. Yet their reports are legitimized by several other findings:

1. iPhone teardown shows a structural reinforcement design flaw that creates a pivot point too close to the volume button discontinuity.

2. CR report finds that the 6+ is significantly less resistant to bending than leading competitors and the 5S.

I'm sorry you're offended, also confused by it since you don't have the problem of bending. And no I'm not calling "a lot of people liars". I choose not to believe unsubstantiated youtube videos and photos. You can feel free to believe them.

1) For the fiftieth time, I'm not saying the phone won't bend. I'm saying under normal use it won't, and if it does then that specific phone itself has a manufacturing flaw and apple will replace them. Sorry, but three people in this thread is not even a blip on the design flaw radar. Granted its only been a little over a week, but this will die down. It always does. If you're paranoid about your purchase because of three people in this forum, then return your phone.

2) yes, and cr report also finds that it won't bend under normal use. You can't have it both ways, either you believe their conclusions or you don't.

3) as already mentioned, this is not normal use by any stretch of the imagination so your point is moot.

I’m one of the one that is, for want of a better term, “Not on Apples side”, here. But I wasn’t amused at all by what those ********s did.
Duh ! Apple you need to ******* fix this. WTF??
Probably the first swear word he has ever uttered and I can sense them giggling like babyfaced fools about it right now. Go and grow some pubes.

(Replied to you rG, not at you).

As for them getting caught, no they won't, because Apple would have to approach the Police, then get a warrant to obtain the IP and email address of their YouTube account, then trace them to their address. Maybe Apple will do that, but it will draw publicity to the whole bendgate again.

Apple should go after them, along with the guy who did this, if only to discourage others from vandalizing their stores

Not doing anything is basically saying, it's okay people, come bend our stuff

I can't answer for them, but presumably because they found it to be a non issue.

None issue my ass. If anybody with an iP6 doesn’t think it will bend under normal use try it. You have nothing to worry about do you?

That's hardly 'a little force'. Look at his hands shake, the little **** used all of his strength to do that.

Many a petty criminal have been busted by stupidly posting evidence of their misdemeanours on youtube. Hopefully this kid and his mate Danny (how dumb have you gotta be to actually name the guy) will be disciplined for their stupidness.

Their sole intention was to damage the phone. When **** number one couldn't initially do it, his little mate Danny gave it ago.

As has been said before, anything is breakable with enough effort. Vids like that don't prove anything.

That was my first thought when I saw the clip. ‘But you’ve got your face on it!!'

Not really... UK is the land of CCTV, complete with facial recognition etc. If there was any desire to find them, there'd be plenty of footage available. Or, next time they're in the area the cctv control room would alert 'the authorities' to their presence and they'd be accosted within minutes.

Am not saying this would actually happen but theres no need to get warrants or IP addresses to find them.

If I was a 'store' manager I'd report them, regardless of whether it was an Apple Store, Samsung Store or candy store.

But then, I'm a socialist (with occasional fascist tendencies) so I'm evil anyway :p

I've been using it every day now under "normal use" and it's perfectly straight. Non issue for me.

hmm i am worried about a $400 dollar phone that i replace in a year and a half

I see people carrying around tables and thin laptops all the time with out a case and they are $900 dollar or more and I am really worried about a $400 dollar phone. Buy Applecare.

Prediction verified. In the earlier threads, I was complaining about the thinness at all costs direction. I know plenty of people with the 5 and 5s with bends by the stress concentration at the volume button, and predicted this would be worse on the new phone, just as the 5 was worse than the 4. Even if it's not the worst on the market, it's a lot worse than anything they've sold in the past. Unless you want to start making the case out of steel or Titanium, you've gone too thin. Give us some reinforcement, particularly around the button holes, or make it thicker and give us strength and multi-day battery life.

I've sat on granite with my 4S in my back pocket with no problems. People always marvel at how durable an old Nokia is. Is it overkill? I really don't think so. Life happens. If a phone that can't resist these things is permissable, where do you stop? Perhaps a phone where the motherboard cracks after a 3' drop to dirt? That'd be thin and light!

Apple- the 4 and 5 were thin enough. Unless you want to use a design or material that increases strength, keep it thicker and use the extra space for battery.

Sure they'll be on camera, but Apple still has to go to the Police to get that evidence, and then persuade them it's worth their effort. I bet they don't bother.
It's not like a corporation can go to the Police and say 'hey we want all the CCTV footage from this week in this place.....' and it's willingly handed over no questions asked.

Doesn't work like that. Facial recognition you're having a laugh! Not in the UK high streets there isn't. And yet again you have to approach the Police or a court to get any of that information. So either way finding out where the person lives through social online media is easier.

From what I've read I think lots of people have been doing this now anyway, so Apple will need to do something, but then I would imagine their display models get wrecked anyway from all the abuse they get.

That's exactly what we've been doing chief... My iPhone 6 is still just fine in my front pockets, slim fit jeans with no case. Sitting, standing it's all good. I realize that doesn't fit your agenda, but there you go.

I think it’s worth it. They may have made a ***** phone but they should make an example of these thugs.

It's up to Apple, the original video was taken down, I only found out about it as the story was over on the gadget site T3, and they said the original video had been removed.

But also as I said I believe lots of people are doing this now, bending the phone in the stores.
