Except for the fact that the iPhone is the number 1 selling phone in the world (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/23/t...illion-new-iphones-in-first-weekend.html?_r=0), and the idea that 90% of iPhone users won't even know about this whole bendable thing. Apple stock has been -basically- unaffected by this entire 'bendgate' fiasco because investors are actually informed and don't base their decisions on internet articles that assume to know about how an Apple product performs without proper testing and analysis.

I agree with some of that, but Bendgate not only affected AAPL investors, but brought the entire NASDAQ down a dew days ago. Check the charts.

That's why I'm so against this sensationalism. There are real consequences.

There is now 78 pages and not one video of a phone bending in a front or back pocket under normal circumstances.

Phone in pocket. A few hours of normal walking, standing, sitting. Pull out bent phone.

Nothing.

At least antennae gate had actual video proof.

Dear Samsung and Google,

Let's see it. Unbox an iPhone 6 Plus in a video and in one continuous take (no sneaky tricks, now) have a girl put it in her back pocket and sit on it.

Do a real world application of this bending theory on an iPhone Plus and comparable phablets.

Don't use some dude who has big muscles and sneakily turns off the camera.

Don't use some machine that simulates stress.

Do an actual live on-camera stress test of the iPhone 6.

Also also, have multiple people sign affidavits that you just did the test a few times (not like repeating it 1000 times until you got a bendable phone).

If you're not willing to do that, then bendgate is just a blip on the media's memory, like antennagate, that will have no impact on sales whatsoever -- except maybe to increase global awareness of the iPhone 6 Plus (dummies).

Just one 512ke's opinion.

Not a scientific test but something until your request is fulfilled.

Unfortunately there remain people fixated on the figures of pressure applied before a phone is breached without any real life experience of that.

There are also enough people on this forum that will not apply any common sense.

Then there are the trolls and the fanboys duking it out.

The sensationalism of this problem is high and yes it will have an affect which will result in loss of livelihoods if the nonsense on here continues. This a selfish act, one of self absorption which is rife.

So strong that it also brought down the S&P and the DOW.... (were Apple is not listed), even Asians stocks were down... :) Man, that's some strenght... But not strong enough to keep it down until friday... Losing its MOJO I think ;-).

The undignified tactics of the competition and their paid army of bashers are still on a roll. wow

Lol..

There is absolutely ..and i repeat absolutely nothing wrong with either iPhone 6 or 6 +

They are perfectly strong for a SANE individual.. And meet all strength requirements and then some !

FACTS:
-iPhone 6 and 6+ have been awarded best in class and least likely to break phones by independent agencies. FACT!!!
-Consumer reports has varified that the bending issue is bogus!
-The Canadian idiots video ( who out of the goodness of his heart has blown 4000+ dollors in 48 hours to bend phones ..lol) has been proven to be fake and doctored.
(And ya he spent that money out of his pocket.. Lol)
-Apple has exposed their testing to the media and it is an incredible exhaustive process of testing !
-Competition has been left in the dust by the new iphone design.
-Best in class, thinnest, lighthes true 64 bit processor and os .. Leaps and bounds ahead of competition.

It is the competition spreading disinformation and fud! The same disgraceful competition that copied the iPhone and the iOS .

Now they are scared .. Really scared of the tremendous positive response to the new iphones..
They can't compete so they are spreading Fud.. Absolutely pathetic.
( another funny fact!... All those competition's PR people who immediately jumped on the bandwagon to degrade and mock apple through tweets... Were tweeting from iphones ... Lol)

All of you who are victims of these trolls... Please do yourself a favor and go to an apple store and see it for yourself !

A Phone only needs to be as strong as a phone needs to be.. Overkill is a waste.
Or why dont we make phones out of concrete and steel.. Hey it will take even more load to bend them.. And they will be cheaper !

Bs has limits
Being undignified is being pushed to newer lows...
There are so many things wrong with the claims if the completion that it is ridiculous .they have created a bogus story and are pushing it into publics mind as reality ....

Given all the above ... Some of you are still falling for the Fud spread by the lowlife competition.
Dont be so naive and dont feed the evil approach of the lowlives .

Again do yourselves a favor and go to an apple store!
The truth is there for u to see.. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the new iPhones.. Nothing !!! .

The rest is bull!

Ps .. Dont u wonder why there is so much passionate hate for apple on this thread? Have asked yourself why? And who is fueling it?
Its so obvious ...and those who fall for it are empowering the undignified ! And u know who they are!

5 tweets. Ever. All from the last day.

Must mean I don't exist. In that case no need to worry about my fake bent iPhone :)

In any case for the benefit of anyone that has a problem I will report back after my genius bar appointment tomorrow.

Posted a very similar thing on here time and again. Just too many who just are not interested to listen but continue with the sensationalism.

The iPhone's are sturdy enough for everyday use. PS. Is anyone else a little surprised by how many iPhones appear to be available despite supply constraints?

Note 3 = 150lbs
6+ = 90lbs

But, but it's cheap plastic :apple:

It's funny how 3 days ago smartphones were valued for what they do, how well they do it, design esthatics, user experience and so on and all the sudden in this crazy world ithey are about "which one is the strongest"

Well, you can keep the super strong plastic Note 3 (yes, still feels cheap and plastic) and I will get anytime the "bendable" 6+.

This whole Story is hilarious #

Cheap plastic feels cheap. How often do people say that plastic can't be strong?

And yet when plastic first went on general release in the early sixties it was the must have material and actually displaced metal for products. Shows these things are cyclical.

Plastic can in fact be beautifuly crafted.

Personally I'm not a lover of glass casings as currently used by Sony and previous versions of iPhone or aluminium. I prefer well crafted polycarbonate.

I had the iPhone 6 in hands and my fear comes true: It's too large! It doesn't fit in my shirt pockets where I'm carrying my iPhones since seven years or so. So the iPhone 6 will be the first iPhone in the two-years-contract-rhythm where I'll pass (had – and still have for memories – iPhone 3G, 4, and will stay with iPhone 5 for the time being). It's not a matter of money.

Please, Apple, make an iPhone with the max. sizes of iPhone 4. And no, I never used a wrist watch in my life (although I have a job where it's crucial to be in time), and I'll never use one in future. It's kind of a handcuff for me.

I'm a bit sad and looking forward to a larger iPad. I had all iPads before and a larger one will be handy at home.

The overall perception coming out from these is that Apple is not on top of its game. Unless they deal with these issues comprehensively, they risk significant damage to their brand. If the skinny jean youth can't take advantage of the styling because of the need for a protective case, can't call or message friends, is forced to listen to mom & dads music and can't send racy pics to the latest love interest because anyone might see them, then the iphone will have lost a lot of its appeal.

An internet bunfight won't solve this.

Basically, you just proved you are a biased "fanboy". I always find funny people who set themselves as a voice of reason and then come to totally biased conclusions. You are part of the problem and not a part of the solution.

Can those youth actually not put the phones in their Jeans, that has not been demonstrated at all; even if that video was real, it still wouldn't demonstrate that. So, yes, you jumped to an unwaranted conclusion, like all good sensationalist writer. Bravo! (BTW, most woman wouldn't put a phone like in their jeans (especially since they're wearing yoga pants these day), so it would be mostly males.

You seem to believe that frenzy means that those implicated have a valid point? Two opinions on something doesn't mean they are equally valid. That also sounds like the argument of the Intelligent design or anti climate change crowd in which every viewpoint is equal, the scientific and layman...

You can't put out a fire on the Internet, but you can slow it down considerably until people who can put out the fire comes along (reputed sites, Apple... Actual reality!). Letting people just lie and spread FUD, including you with your skinny jeans mention, must be fought vigorously.

The solution to sensationalism is advocating for actual proof before believing anything. That's what usually calms the whole thing and clips the legs of a frenzy like that....

People that support Apple have been saying that from the start that this video is highly questionable, yet were constantly berated as fanboys by a contingent of people that have NEVER owned a Apple product or posted anything positive on Apple (so says their posting history) on many Apple user forums. So, how is asking for actual scientific proof until believing that a company known for its careful long lasting design would produce a structurally weak product, fanboyish?

The real bias comes from people who will defend the integrity of a video they know can be faked because it comforts their opinions. Media that now are caught in a 24h news cycles, act as an echo chamber for those people because everything Apple will be of interest, regardless if it is true or not (fact checking is at an all time low in the medias, google the studies about that)

Thankfully, many of the viewers of those videos are not be so gullible and reality is catching up with the big load of FUD that lasted a few days.

PS: The only Apple f*up I see is the 8.0.1 update which truly inconvenience a small (40000), but substantial group of users (good thing they fixed it the next day). These people have the right to complain about Apple, everyone else, not so much.

I don't care about the truth of the videos - they have entered the public consciousness and only fanboys on either side really care about the result. It is a marketing issue for Apple, plain and simple.

The perception that apple is getting shoddy is getting out there - the next few releases really need to be glitch free to get over this without some lasting damage. Not in an "Apple is doomed" sort of way, but in long term lost revenue.

For me are people just thick. Big flat object in pocket and sit on it do you think it might bend or break urm yeah.

I've enough friends who have andriod large phones and broken them by sitting down with them in a pocket.

This is just another have ago at Apple.

I've been in the tech industry long enough to know your talking pure BS. Even done product management (I'm an computer engineer by trade).

It is actual reality that triumphs from FUD, especially such short lived one. You do know that from initial video to the response from Apple and others there was only 2-3 days max. This is slowly dying down. The presumed Antenna "problems" were there a lot longer on the internet, many weeks, yet didn't affect anything.

Your extreme stridency and drama queen conclusions makes me believe you are one of those mega fanboys, which is very ironic.

Lets see a famous case. Toyota, which has a huge reputation for reliability had a massive recall situation 4 years ago. Their cars supposedly accelerated by themselves. Thousands of people supposedly had this issue and supposedly many people had died because of it. Compared to Apple's purported issue, this was thousands of times worse, a incredibly bad publicity for the brand.

Despite there being little proof Toyota was actually responsible, many believed they were and the brand took a hit the next year. Meanwhile, every investigation proved that all the cases were people died were actually because of driver error and not their cars. The only fault found in some cases, were car mats being infrequently caught under the accelerator. Toyota fixed that minor issue and that was it.

Within 2 years Toyota's brand had recovered. Why? Because reality won over FUD.

Even when its not the case. That there are actual problems. It is very hard to damage a strong brand. The Ford ignition key problem has killed at least 20 people, yet Ford won't be substantially affected.

I just like to know if there is problem with the 6Plus, before I spend 900€. I don't care about these Bentgate Videos. Yes you can break anything with enough force. Yes there is a regression from the 5S. But will it affect my every day use? Neither Apple nor CR answered the basic question: Is it possible to bend unintentionally an iPhone 6Plus in a front pocket?

Phil Schiller talked about rare incidents and a well tested device. But why he doesn't want to answer the question about the weak point? That made me start to doubt. If I buy an iPhone 6Plus and with bad luck it is slightly bent after one year, then I am totally screwed. I don't want to worry about my phone or change my transporting habits. If there is no problem, why did Apple not make a clear statement and offer me something to get my trust? Maybe a two guarantee on frame bending or something: If you didn't break your iPhone intentionally, we exchange it without any problem. Right now I still hesitate to buy it and wait how this issue develops.

I would like to see a video of people placing a new phone in their loose front pocket then

a) sitting
b) kneeling

then take it out and show if it's bent.

If it deforms it proves it's possible.
If it doesn't bend it proves that with that single movement it's impossible.

Do we really need to do the experiment? No. I think we all know that the phone will not bend like this!

It's fairly obvious that it is possible to bend the phone, but you need to apply a good amount of force. So to say "it bent while I sat down - it was in a loose front pocket" seems disingenuous. We know, one way or another, a good amount of force must have been applied to the phone for it to bend.

We also know that when people break things they will often tend to blame someone else. What little kid hasn't tried the "I didn't do anything, honest, it just broke by itself" routine?

As for the guy that walks into a piazza and snaps a phone deliberately and says "am I the incredible hulk?". Er, no, but you're a healthy adult male, in the prime of your life, who can easily snap a phone! If I gave you my Mac Book Air, I'm sure you could snap the lid off without much problem by bending it backwards. I haven't tried though. Why would I?

Good grief. So, you actually believed the video over well, Apple seemingly. Apple which actually must replace the phones of people if they fail... Affecting both its bottom line and reputation.. Unlike that random guy, which has all to gain from this perceived failure...

The FUD got you. I'm so sorry for that...

BTW, even the stupidly bent phone the guy had still worked... That should tell you somethtng.

Post #2000 approaching. Doesn't look like it's closed yet..

Yes, because fan forums, were people will discuss remors of future products 11 months in advance, are an absolute reflection of reality...

I think whether you love Apple or hate them is not the issue.

Whatever your allegiance, the last week has not been to coin a phrase Apples finest hour. Only someone in complete denial would argue otherwise.

Whatever the reasons are for that happening it does need to be addressed. Once can be considered an accident, twice is just carelessness. Mud sticks and the opposition will seize on it with glee.

If you put yourself out there as the King then everyone is just waiting for the crown to slip.
