Contact search: Why wasn't that included from the beginning? It's kind of sad that we get excited over features that should have been there from day 1. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, and I'm not bashing Apple, but that's a simple feature we should already have.
A global release would require an unlocked iPhone. Apple can't make exclusivity contracts in every country.Something is telling me that there will be some kind of "global release" of the iPhone 2.0 coming summer... except for a couple of disadvantaged countries.
I don't think current price is a subsidised price. One problem with it not being locked to a carrier.
You know how we get a (technically) subsidized price, and unlock it for free?

quick question... is that bluetooth symbol usually there? if not, does that suggest better bluetooth functionality will be added?

An indication that this might actually be the case is that T-Mobile suddenly started to subsidise iPhones last week. Apple seems to change their strategy.
There has been no formal announcement to the reseller channel in Australia.
All I can guess here is maybe someone from Apple expressed their opinion to a reseller and it was taken out of context.
Totally agree. I'm a sucker for all things Apple. But I stop drinking the coolaid when I'm asked to believe a search feature and cut-and-paste take Apple - APPLE! - this long to develop and implement.

They won't. It will cost something ridiculous around 600-900 USD for one that is unlocked from the start. I guess we are lucky for having our phones locked from the start.
I hope that means that the iPhone will be released in that month in the US. It would be great if the iPhone was not tied down to a single carrier, especially when AT&T is not exactly the best wireless carrier in the US. (It's actually either Sprint or Alltell right now.) Like others are saying, however, it is sort of bland to have a simple feature like CONTACT SEARCH as supposedly something exciting. I am more excited about the possibilities that will come up with the new iPhone SDK in the works, which - if you ask me - might lead to the need for a new name for the iPhone.
That doesn't work to well for lots of contacts. Many people I know have ~400 business contacts on their phones. The ones they call often family, best friends etc are all in their favorites but you need a search feature to find Bill at company X.Contact search is a waste of time...
It's easier/faster to just remember phone numbers and type them in the "ole fashion" way.
actually this is incorrect.
i work for a reseller in australia and can verify this information.
all of the resellers were given different release dates so that any solid information that any one of us gives to the public can be traced back to whichever one of us is the source of the leak. so i can't say much more.
but i will say that i'm excited =)
ATT will be the exclusive carrier of the iPhone for a while. They reconfigured there entire network in order to make visual voicemail work. Apparently, Verizon did not want to do that and I'm sure others would not have.
I don't see any other carriers getting a bite of thepie anytime soon.
