Oh that's a shame :(

But if you fancy sending a nice case of wine over to Regent's Park then we'll all raise a glass back :)
I'll see what I can do - assuming I don't drink it first :D

Oooo... Less than a fortnight to go. Skunk has got the pointy sticks, Applespider the chilly bins, dietcokevanilla the glam shades... and I've got hayfever.

I'm going to probably bring some cold beer, I guess. Although I can't imagine what use that will have at a picnic.

Also some soft drinks, some plastic disposable cups, some paper plates and cutlery... and whatever enticing and delectable cold nibbly things I can muster from Waitrose.

Must say that I fully intend to go to Waitrose on Marylebone High St and buy nibbly things just before the picnic and then hop in a cab up to the park rather than hike them from local Waitrose home and then all the way across in London. Also feel that the ice will stand a better chance of staying frozen longer!

Excellent idea. In that case, I shall probably join you if that's OK...

I'm going to get some food and booze in London somewhere near to the park, so I could also possibly meet you all there as well. :)

I could pick you both up on my way past, if we synchronised watches. You could chuck the ice in the freezer with the bubbly.

Now that sounds like a grand idea. Think we might have to do some round-robin emailing later this week to coordinate this endeavour... is that OK with you?

Chuckle... this could become the great MR Waitrose meetup if it's wet! ;)

And skunk, very kind offer - and I'm sure we'll get something figured out with regards to synchronising watches..... 5,4,3,2,1 MARK!

Skunk, do you mean picking up in some sort of automobile?!

Just for the record, if it turns out there isn't space for us all in there, I'd be quite happy to chuck my stuff in the car and make my own way there if need be. :)

I'll be bringing my wife, so in theory at least, there are three seats and luggage-space available in the Skunkmobile.

I may well be driving (and therefore not drinking) too. I am probably going to be in work in the morning and I get free parking at the weekend so I could drive in, do my stuff, hit Waitrose in Canary Wharf then rush across London to the park.

I should have a single spare seat from Docklands/Canary Wharf if someone wants a lift, although I'm not sure of the timing at the moment.

Please remind me to either bring sunscreen, or a very large hat... or to sit in the shade all day!

Woohoo... sounds great.

I'll try my best to be there. I've put it in iCal 'n everything!

Will bring some bevvies of the soft and the alcomafrolic variety, and some nibbles.

Let's hope the weather's even half as glorious as it's been this week.

Wow,

Just glanced at my profile... and by some strange alignment of the planets, the MR Picnic is on the exact date of the 3rd anniversary of me joining MacRumors!

It's a sign, I tells ya, a SIGN!

edit: I know there's a few other MR members who live near me (one's literally just up the road...). Anyone else from Orpington (yes, it's where the chickens came from...) going?

Surely, my fellow Americans, this shows the advantage of living in a much smaller country.
Nah, it shows the advantage of being more pro-active.

In many areas of the US, we could have such fun get-togethers (well, barring the fact that so many of the fun and enjoyable posters are there from other places), but we've not really bothered to. :(

I'm incredibly jealous, sounds like you all are gonna have such a fun time!

Dunno if this is the guy you know, but he seems close.

Right. What I'm getting at is that it's much easier to get most or all of the British MacRumors members together than it is to get as many American members together. Much less travel required.

There's a big difference between getting members together from Whitehaven to London, and getting them together from Los Angeles to New York. For a country as vast as the U.S., regional get-togethers seem to be more the norm...at least from what I've seen in other forums.

But that's my point. While, it's not as feasible to get the NY to LA (and everywhere in between) together, we can still do regional-- but don't really. And that's my point. If so unwilling to meet in our own "backyards," you've got to wonder if it'd be all that much different with a smaller area.

How many MR members live in California? Lots, now stop slacking and start organizing! ;)

There's plenty but California is like its own country, and a pretty good sized one at that. I've talked about a Bay Area one a year ago or so but it fell on deaf ears. Maybe its because I posted it in the drunk thread.

*shrug*

I could use an explanation for that first sentence.

I'll do some research on travelling guides for London before I go, but I'll probably benefit from some tips from you locals with regards to this picnic. For instance, I assume this Waitrose is a good place to get nibbly things, but I don't know where I can find it/one. I'm usually good with city, tube and bus maps, but I hear the tube system in London is notoriously hard to navigate. I may have some questions when I've had the time to find some maps and info.

Is anyone keeping count on the expected number of participants?

I'm pretty good at Brit-speak. I think it means that Skunk is bringing spears, Applespider has access to freezer space (for the bodies?), dietcokevanilla has glamorous colors (pink? chartreuse?), and Blue Velvet is bringing an exotic new drug.

I'm now even more upset that I'm not coming.
