Hey!

I live in London, I might come- just to see what internet people look like!

I'm more of a lurker round here, but you might recognise me from my utterly forgettable and confusing responses, my stupid London Tube map and my hilarious thread about trying to control Sellafield Nuclear Powerstation with a Mac Mini.

I think Waitrose is a bit classy for my, so I'll get some German nibblies from the Lidl in Hackney.

I might come too for the same reason to see what Mac people are like. I have two very obscure hobbies which I discuss on the web and when I went along to the meets it was like a trainspotter's convention. Being a geek it was not a problem but I realised hanging out with that crowd was sending any semblance of street cred I had down the crapper. Are Mac people cooler?

It's a paradox, we're both cooler AND hotter at the same time, althought bragging about being cooler or hotter than a train spotter will not do that much for your street cred.

Of course. :p

Though, seriously, I expect us to be a very diverse crowd. Some geekier than others.

If the one Mac User Group meeting I went to in Oslo is anything to go by (I think not, though), there will be lots of hyperactive and overenthusiastic semi-geekish people there. (It was a demo of the first PowerMac G5 which could explain it, though.)

Hmm, that could well explain it!

When I was loitering around the Regent's Street AppleStore on its day of opening (and, indeed any other day), it's always nicely surprising how diverse the clientele is. It's not at all like the poor souls who suffer a visit to PC World.

Even the MacRumors forums underline this to some degree. For example, I can't think of any other 'tech' site which has so many women (yes, I often get my heart broken when I go to an Apple Store, and not just because I can't afford a 30" Cinema Display).

Um... cooler, not sure. Generally fun chilled out people - yes. I suspect, from past occasions, there will be some Mac chat, some forum chat, more general chat and quite a lot of drinking/eating.

Just remember your notebook of Mac serial numbers you have seen!

You don't think it's a coincidence that its so near to the summer solstice, do you? Isn't Regent's Park crossed by several ley-lines? Do you think the chickens that Applespider was referring to were cooked and intended for eating? Muahaha...

Are there any plans for after 6pm?

None have been made but the time of 6pm was just me putting a minimum time that I personally will be there. :p i.e. I'm not leaving before 6pm and will probably stay until later. The park closes at dusk which will be somewhere around 9-9:30ish, I guess.

Is anyone keeping count on the expected number of participants?

I should do really. I simply must ensure there are enough place settings, port and cigars for everyone, let alone polishing the silver... But no is the answer, but my guess is that we may muster 15-30, maybe more. 130 people have viewed the PDF map as of today.

Don't be so pessimistic, I reckon it'll be nearer 16-31:D

Excellent! Let us know (upstairs and out the back) if you need a hand with anything. This is going to be a laugh. :D

Then organise one... Those organising this one are based in London - that's why it's beign held here and why it's called the London picnic as opposed to the UK meet-up. These social events all depend on one person actually starting the ball rolling.

There are probably enough Scottish members to make one possible although I must say I probably wouldn't fly up since the London -> Scotland airfares in August are silly.

fine then, i will ;)

OK... I've attempted a list

Well done, although you've omitted Skunk's partner. :p

I might also be dragging along some of my motley crew as well... as in real-life friends that don't haunt these forums! :D (although they're all Mac owners)

I'm moving to Edinburgh in a month, I'll come. :)

Off topic, but I got a flat yesterday, those of you who know me :D

I might do too, actually, as I think that weekend might be my last chance to see my friends in London for a while.

I might come along with Rohan Moore if the weather's nice.

You'd be very welcome too. The weather will be nice, I can feel it in my bones.

Lau: Congrats on the flat but last weekend with your London mates? :(

Oh, so sorry. :( I had to leave London and it was a terrible day.

I wish I was going to this thing. Macs and British people = a good time.

*checks flight ticket prices*

Whoa, no thanks. I may as well get an "Around the world" ticket if I'm going to be paying anywhere close to that. (If I had time, I would buy an Around-The-World ticket, actually)
