The 2GhZ models are ok with the small price drop and other upgrades, but the 1.83 model really is a p**s poor deal in my opinion, its pretty clear it only exists to get people to spend more money on the 2GHz models. Clever Apple.

A disappointing update in my opinion.

yea, i was hoping they'd drop down to the $999 price point that the iBooks settled at.

Does anyone think we will see A NEW MacMini with itv? it seems that they could go together well and itv could be used to make your tv you moniter ( without cables). The mini has been so neglected, it could really be as cool as ipod only half as portable.

the mini will probably see a huge increase in HD capacities with the iTV...but id say wait til MacWorld to find out

Not really. The Mac Mini has always been neglected in some manner because it's not supposed to be a major selling point. Apple would rather have a person buy an iMac over a Mac mini.

Nice update, I suppose. Would be perfect if they had put in the x3000, but even so it's a decent value. I suspect the EDU pricing for the middle model will be $1199 which is a good buy for a pretty well equipped laptop.

Would be nice to see the mini go to these specs and keep the current pricing model (with the lower 2 MB models). $799 would be pretty fair for a 2ghz C2D w/ 1gb RAM and DVDRW/80gb HDD, as opposed to what you get now.

The mobile version of the x3000 isn't due till Santa Rosa in April next year.

Don't know why people were expecting it to be here 5 months early??

You're wrong. It won't double the battery life - it won't do anything to the battery life at all. The computers are going to use the same amount of power.

yea the core 2's are much more power effecient. efficiency would come with adding more cores. the core 2's are mainly a speed inscrease. they might save u some battery life, but not double

It's not the cost it's the size. I have two aging 12" powerbooks (rev a and c). The whole point of a laptop, sorry notebook, for me is the small size.

I am listening when you say the black isn't a good finish. I'm holding off my buy for a while yet :)

You could always wait another 6 months, or another year, something new will certainly be out by then...

All the latops have been updated in the past 3 weeks. Buy what is best for you, because it's gonna be a while before you see something different.

Either that or start praying to Saint Santa Rosa. Go light a candle or something..

People think that the only benifet for C2D is speed! Wrong! It also should come close to doubling the batter life, because it uses much less power. That alone is huge in regards to a notebook.

Also, I had 2 MBP's and got rid of them with all the trouble they had and exchanged it for a Mac Pro. The MB 13.3 is not even close to the bulkiness of the MBP, it sounds to me that there are a lot of assumptions here and people have not compared them.

As always, people want to be negative, the price for the MB is very reasonable for it's hardware. If you are disatisfied with the MB Hardware, maybe you should take the inards out of a Mac Pro and bind it by a string and tie it to your waist when traveling. Then you will have power and portability.
Seriously what do you expect from a portable consumer product? An ipod size notebook. Sheesh. Stop whining. You can always buy older PowerBook's now if that is what you like. In fact ..

I have a 12" 1.5PPC that is a year old, I would sell it for $600.00.

I don't want to sound mean to y'all, but there is always someone disatisfied. I guess you can't please 'em all.

Double the battery life?! What?!

That is a ridiculous post.

this was a nice curve ball. it wasn't a tuesday even but considering all the election news, makes sense. This upgrade is perfect for me. Just some C2D, some ram here, some hd there. there ya go. as nice as it would be to see a new graphics card, it's also a pipedream. if you need big video, go pro. why anyone would seriously try to use a 13-inch macbook as a gaming machine is beyond me (yeah i'm aware there's other video uses beside gaming).

i'm just waiting on the credit card to come through now after a month of reading here religiously.

plus extra reasons to be stoked: will be my first mac, first laptop, and this is my first post here. sup all.

Knowing Apple, most likely both slots are taken up. It's typical Apple.
Its typical everyone. The fact is with these Core Duo chips you're supposed to have matched pairs of memory for optimum performance. Upgrades are available as BTO if you want more.

This is exactly what I hate about Apple. If you are determined to get your moneys worth you end up waiting for ever. There is always something worthwhile to wait for: hardware upgrade, software upgrade, Leopard included, Back to School rebate, printer rebate, ...

While the software side is somewhat predictable the hardware side is not. If people had known in advance that the only update for the 1.83 model is a meagre 10% speed increase, a lot would have bougth right then. Now they have waited since August and maybe they can wait just a little longer... :D

why do u hate this about apple? every company does this

UK Store up, (US still down :p) the prices seem the same, but I feel I would have splashed out for a 160GB HD and 2GB RAM from Apple if I'd waited, but I needed at the start of term, if I had waited it would have arrived at the end of term, totally useless (except for holiday work).

The upgrade isn't surprising, 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD for the middle Macbook, is what I expected.

Well you can also HAET Intel for not rolling out the GMA X3000 onto their mobility platform like their desktop ones. The Apple rebates and other deals are rather predictable.
