I like the faster super drive, the bigger hard drives, and I guess the new CPU. Overall though I'm still very happy with my old black MacBook. No reason for me to upgrade, this time! :D

No, the claim for the MBP is for 2.16GHz Core Duo v 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo so there is an increase in clock speed as well as the change in chip.

For the MB they don't get an increase in clock speed hence the lower claimed speed increase.

Wow I never noticed the speed bump :p

That explains it then :D

US Store???

This is wild that the US Store is still down and during the day too! I wonder if there is a makeover going on? Trading Websites! Microsoft and Apple each get $500 to make over each other's site in 3 hours.

Dang - I think I need some caffeine...

Well you can also HAET Intel for not rolling out the GMA X3000 onto their mobility platform like their desktop ones. The Apple rebates and other deals are rather predictable.

Hhm, I think thats what I said. The software updates can be planned, it is the HW side they are so damn secretive about and what do I get after patiently waiting: a C2D instead of a CD in the 1.83 model.
They were able to double the RAM and up the HD and Superdrive while maintaining the price point. Why not also on the 1.83?

:(

Have you seen a similar forum stuffed with Vaio-Nerds? Waiting for the next release of their best loved notebook?

If Sony does not offer C2D they buy Lenovo instead.

Only Apple has us all tied in and can get away with it...

actually i am a bit of a vaio nerd, and there are forums out there like this about vaios. Apple has a way of bringing in a cult following.
also, i think a big reason for the delay was that the core 2's came out right at the end of back to school season for apple. can u imagine how many angry parents and college students ud have the release had been made as they're going back to school?

The 1.83 GHz model fits in fine the cheapo people. I know a lot of people here in my department that will never burn a DVD and need an update on a G3/G4 PowerBook. Ever try building a mobile computer lab? :D

OMG!

I ordered a macbook last Friday. I just got off the phone though and this is why my order had not shipped yet. They were holding my order for the new release. I confirmed that I am getting the new version.

Kind of sucks they aren't going to start shipping them tell the 20th, but it will totally be worth it!

It would fit even better if it was priced at 999$ ;)

Right now I think it is overpriced looking at the specs of the other models.

Not really. The CD has some level of cache coherency, this makes it more efficient than separate caches on separate processors.

Yes I know. I was responding to the OP talking about 256KB L2 caches being a recent memory - they're not.

Should be $1049 for education and don't forget the refurb models or lab purchase kits. The US Educational Store is still down though.
hitting $999 would've been nice...and i think it wudve made them more competitive....the higher end models are priced very competitively now, when the hd and ram upgrades. the baseline seems over priced now...maybe im just too demanding.

Oh I know about the sweet $999 price point. I also wish Apple would hit it but they need to keep their little hardware spec control policy.

There were a few a few days ago, they must have been sold out completly over here...

i wonder how much it would cost to upgrade the base to 1gb of ram and an 80gb harddrive now. its got to be very close to the 1299 model. which is what bothers me a bit.

the refurb stock fluctuates. wait a week or so, and they'll have some more
