MacBook Vent Design Is A TOP SECRET No Owners Will Share With Us

So.... (my Macbook is enroute so I will know eventually) - but have we determined by those who have them in their hot little hands - that the vents have been improved a la MBP a week or so ago?
No it's top secret and DTphonehome thinks I shouldn't be asking anyone with one for that kind of info 'cause he thinks I'm asking for myself instead of for the group.

wishful thinking, methinks

By the time 32bit is abandoned, your macbook will be very obsolete. Think 7 years from now or more.
Right...

Considering the amount of new OSX software today that is "Intel Only", I think that a 7 year lifespan for 32-bit OSx86 is wishful thinking.

Consider the *fact* that only the MacIntels sold in the first few months of the transition are 32-bit only, and you should worry about "x64-only" software very soon....

OSX x64-only Software Is The Reason We've Been Telling Everyone To Wait All Year

Which is why we've been harping all year for everyone to wait until now. :p

No, I think you should certainly ask if you're curious, but you don't go and DEMAND shots with the "VENT shot which would be while OPEN down from the rear of the keyboard opposite the base of the screen and while OPEN the rear NOT closed." You might consider something like "Thanks for the camera phone shots! Say, if you get a chance, and it wouldn't be too bothersome, would you mind trying to get some clearer shots with the MB in some positions which would allow me to better ascertain the vent design? These shots would be really helpful...Thanks!"

The guy is doing you a favor. You don't have to get all demanding.

Good Vent Pics Up Now

Sorry I didn't tell you what Legacy Village -- its the name of the apple store in my area east of Cleveland Ohio.

Here are pics of the rear of the macbook -- sorry for it being grainy, but all I've got is my phone camera.
Thanks for those shots. They look nothing like the new MBP Vents. I don't really know what the Rev A MB Vents look like. Can anyone say these are different or not?

BTW, I was NOT DEMANDING anything. I was being DIRECT and INSTRUCTIVE and never intended to demand these pics. It was a shout out. Not a demand. Edited the pics to be small file size and rotated to show how they look when you are looking at it from front and rear.

Very nice! :D This was a nice little surprise. Even if only the processor has been upgraded, it's still an upgrade... so be happy with it. It looks like Apple updated all their Macs, except for the Mac mini, in time for the holidays. :)

on the topic of vents I'm curious... is the back of the chip succeptible to static? I was wondering why they dont just back the outside of the computer into a heatsink...

just curious, I'm no engineer or anything:)

To me it seemed that you were being not just demanding but out right rude and to make matters worse you made snide comments about him not giving the address of the store accurately enough. You seem to hover around these forums acting like an authority on all things apple when it's clear that you are anything but and seem to delight in bullying those new to the forums. Established posters have a duty to make others feel welcome not to parade around prophesising and passing judgement.

Now you can get on with annoucing how all these new laptops will be obsolete just as soon as santa rosa comes out.

Santa Rosa Will NOT Make Any Of These New Mobile Macs Obsolete

He not only didn't tell us what country he is in, he didn't tell us the State nor the City. I'd say that without that info we have NO CLUE where these MBs are surfacing first. I'm sorry I had a cow about it. I overlooked he was a newbie. Lots of newbies lately.

Yes I am.

No I don't and I apologize for that to all I may have offended with my directness.
Established posters have a duty to make others feel welcome not to parade around prophesising and passing judgement.
I did not know that was a rule. I'm not a prophesier. I make educated guesses based on historical facts and information gathered here and elsewhere around the web.

These MacBooks will NOT be obsolete when Santa Rosa comes out. Santa Rosa will make almost no difference in performance. There will be a better graphics chipset from Intel then though.

you forgot the mac pro, it will probably be within the few weeks along with the mini.

You're wrong. It won't double the battery life - it won't do anything to the battery life at all. The computers are going to use the same amount of power.

You are right. It won't double the battery life, but the C2D is more energy-efficient. It will help out about small bit. I doubt you'll really even notice.

I just ordered my C2D Macbook today :) 2gb or Ram and 160gb of HD!! I'm pretty excited!!

How much "professional editing" will be done on Macbooks?

In any case, it's simple enough to connect a top-quality monitor (up to 24").

How about if someone simply wants a 13" or 12" laptop, and they like the matte screen better??

Really, what's with all these mac fanboys defending Apple's decision to NOT give people a choice of screen on their compact laptop? It's not about professional vs. consumer, it's about having a choice of screen size and screen type, together.

As for the ludicrous "connect a top-quality monitor" comment, yeah, that works great outside my home. Which is why people buy a laptop. So you can use it outside the home. But thanks for the blind Apple advocacy.

The pcworld one for £699 is a philips-x56

Is that the same Philips that used to make Tivos? I didn't know they even made PCs. Is this considered a brand-name computer over there in Europe, or is it more like Averatec is here (maker no one really knows that makes what looks like great computers at a low price; but ever since I bought one for my wife I've regretted it)?

Tuesday November 14 Will Be C2D Mini and 8-Core Mac Pro Release Day

you forgot the mac pro, it will probably be within the few weeks along with the mini.
Next Tuesday November 14 will be the C2D mini and 8-core Mac Pro announcements. The following week is Thanksgiving and Black Friday when all Apple Stores will offer everything for 10% off including all computers.

Two quick questions I hope no one minds me asking... (boy what a long thread this is, lol)...

1. Is it CONFIRMED, that the new Rev. 2 MacBooks have 802.11n support?

2. Is it true that my current 1st Revision MacBook is only 32 bit and the new ones are 64bit, because of the Core Duo > Core 2 Duo change?

yes it's only 32 bit but that really won't matter until a few years from now.

Not really. The Mac Mini has always been neglected in some manner because it's not supposed to be a major selling point. Apple would rather have a person buy an iMac over a Mac mini.

If you start kitting out a Mac Mini to the same spec as an iMac, you start finding the Mac mini is quite an expensive machine. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if there is more profit in a mini than a low end imac.

if apple banks on the iTV, the mini will find its way into more and more homes...and if they add some sort of subscription service to the itunes store, i think ull find some people will be willing to cancel their cable TV services, and opt for an expanded itune store service
