Engadget provides some further confirmation, although from a seemingly unconfirmed source, that Core 2 Duo (Merom) MacBook and MacBook Pros are due in November.

We just got word from an IT guy at a Swiss university who claims to have the gotten the scoop on upcoming MacBooks from some sales reps. Apparently they've confirmed Core 2 Duo processors will be making their way into upcoming MB and MBPs this November, and were even kind enough to let our tipster "pre-order" a C2D MacBook.

It should be noted that Apple's sales representatives are traditionally not told about pre-release products. That being said, AppleInsider has stated (and reiterated) that they expect the full laptop line to be refreshed by the beginning of the holiday shopping season in late-November.

late November?? Crap why even bother...

DOH! i was going to say the same thing about late november

well i would think if it is in november it would be about the same time as the US Wii and PS3 launch.

the only people that will afford the PS3 is people with allot of money, and the majority of the other people are going to buy the Wii. i myself am going to get the Wii , sony can keep there PS3

but yea i was thinking on that date cause its around X-Mas the shopping season

come on guys no need to post a new thread about this, i have already mentioned it it one of the other Core 2 duo threads.

ok.. nice to have it on page 2 but please lock..

This exists because it is a news item on page 2 and every news item needs its own comment thread, plus do you really think an admin would open an unnecessary thread?

It seems any 'tip' from a person about C2D is taken far too seriously. I'll believe it when I see it... and I honestly doubt it.

Engadget need to get a grip. It was the same last year when EVERYONE was saying that the iBooks would be first to Intel at MWSF 06, and they were WRONG

Now... lets just sit tight and see what happens.

Misinformation

hi everybody

i study at the university that this rumour is about, i know the laptop program that the university supports (and benefit from it ...) and i think i know the source of the rumour (because he is in charge of the program and i talked to the guy yesterday).

as far as i know what this guy really meant is that it is very probable (from his own point of view) that a new macbook pro will be out by the end of the university's program, which is why he has put the delivery time of any laptops purchased in the program to the end of the program's space of time.

it is very likely that a user of the program who has talked to the guy in charge has misinterpreted the guy's words and gave misinformation to engadget.

there is no evidence about when exactly new macbook pros are going to be out.

I'm thinking in the next week we will see at least one if not both models updated with C2D. Who am I to make predictions? Nobody ever listens to me anyway so there you have it - C2D's within 1 week.

I agree.

Santa Rosa chipset is coming in April of 07. And that is a serious leap forward.

I think the only reason why it's worth it at this point is if--a big IF--Apple has taken the time to fix the horrific quality issues in their laptop line.

If that is the reason for the delay, then I'm game.

But if it is just a small bump, Apple still has the quality issues, and they waiting until Nov/Dec to release these, it's a bad sign for the health of Apple.

Personally, I need a new laptop, and it is just too close to buy a new one now. So I suck it up and wait. I just worry about the state of Apple nowadays. Quality issues like this remind me of Dell and Sony, not Apple.

Hah! Classic...

I love how rumors have degraded to the point where we've resorted to posting the old "I know a guy, who's cousin knows a guy, who overheard Steve Jobs at a brunch, that..."

Rings a bell. Anyone remember way back when we were still in elementary school? There was always that kid at summer camp whose "cousin once jumped over the flagpole in Super Mario Bros." That's still my favorite.

Brilliant.

Ok, so i think i have OD'd on Macrumors. Last night i had a dream. I was at my restaurant and one of my customers had a new merom MBP with a black anodized case and air vent holes on the front and sides. I knew it was the new macbook pro. I was so excited so i rushed home to look at Apple.com and there they were, Brand new MMBP's. I couldnt believe my eyes. They were still $1,999. I was thinkin, hey its finally the Tuesday we have all been waiting for. I was so excited. Unfortunately i woke up from this dream and came to the sudden realization that there are no Merom macbook pros available yet. I think i need MAA(mac addicts anonymus). This rumor site is gettin into my head. hahah

you know an "IT Guy" that spoke to an Apple guy that reakons that C2D Macbooks are coming soon

How is that even reportable??????

my dad's uncle's former employer's daughter used to date this young chap down from atlanta.. turns out the chap knew a guy who worked for a guy, a guy right, who shined shoes for a top ranking official official from apple.

he said core 2 duo were due out in a week from today.

no joke. put that on page 1.

Hey, thanks to the Game Genie and Game Shark, we finally could jump over the flagpole... and it sucked. The brick wall went on forever.

Well, personally, I am holding out for the 12" PowerBook G5. Hopefully that will be out before Holiday.

oh snap!!! Merom MBP's Next Tuesday For Sure!

God, just stop already. They're not coming any time soon. Inquirer was right, we'll see C2D next January.

actually, the machines have to come out at some point before the holidays, so stop being so pessimistic people. There are basically about 5 more weeks left where the release will be timely, so just think that there's 20% chance next tuesday; if not, 25% chance for the tuesday after, etc.

Actually I'm expecting more than just a processor bump in the MBP. That is why the delay. If it was just a CPU upgrade we would have had it by now, MB for example were probably ready weeks ago and are just waiting for MBP's. They can't update the consumer model before the PRO model. Expect them very soon with a very good possibility of new casings/features for MBP.
