From now on I am marking each and every iPad related rumour or news with negative...

No Flash support with iPhone and iPod Touch I could just about swallow... But no Flash with this device is shocking to say at very least!

I could do with lack of Camera...

I could do with lack of Multitasking...

I could do with ugly UI and poor design...

etc...

But to exclude Flash and call it best browsing experience is LOL of the century!

Negative mark and will make sure they keep on coming in quantities :p
The iphone users don't have flash but that device is killing the competition!
Listen to that. The sells are through the roof! AND NO FLASH!!!!!!!!! I serf the net on my iphone when I'm on the bus, at work, chilling with the Chihuahua and my girlfriend. NO FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!
I just figured out that folks like you have been commercially peddling these minor features all over the net trying to convince people that if they don't have it they are screwed. You so fail!!!!! Like I said, the iphone is a beast! And everyone in the cell game is trying to beat it but they can't. All they can do as Apple takes away their market share is release a new cell phone every two months. What a waste of resources.
Iphone, a new one once a year(unheard of in the cell game. One new phone a year?) and it is fast approaching 100 million!!! EAT THAT FLASH!!!!
Ha ha ha. And the ipad is a silent beast. The devs and Apple are going to raise hell unlike anything you have ever seen before. The ipad will be in the schools, the offices, hospitals research labs etc. It will succeed because it will work and Apple will stand behind it rather than sending you to a freaking call center in India(I love the culture! xoxox).
Start running because the bombing campaign is about to commence

Multitasking has always seemed to me an unneccesary complication of the iPhone OS interface.

I ALWAYS run Skype always - regardless what i do...

And for $500 (which will turn out to be much more by the time it reaches UK) I can NOT run Skype at the same time as browse the net!?!?!?!

LMAO!

Multitasking is must... No excuse!

I cant care less about your opinion...

I know what I do need and what my money is worth out there.

If one device doesn't do what I want it to do - then I move on and buy other device...

And this is exactly what will happen...

1 less sale for Apple - no big deal after all :)

And if they simply touch the little pictures (icons) they can read online magazines, follow websites devoted to their hobbies, view pictures of their grandkids, listen to music, read books etc. All without having to deal with malware, ad-ware, viruses etc., or wondering if they have to left click or right click.

Although to be fair, as others have mentioned, the iPad requires a desktop or laptop computer to sync with if you want to get the full experience.

I really see the ipad going pro in a few years! This si just the tip of the iceberg man. I really think so. And I'm 100% sure that the Asian tech guys are copying the ipad as we speak. Of course they are.

Yeah, but this is a more computer-like device. My prediction: there will be a workaround. Perhaps first as a jailbreak. Either that, or Apple will make a YouTube-like deal with certain sites to transcode their videos.

But I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's not the black stripe; it's not the Flash; it's not even the lack of camera. It's the developers, and a look around the Web tells you they are excited. I predict that in a year all the naysayers will look foolish because there will be the coolest apps in the world for this device.

I feel rather giddy about this decade, what a cracking start to the future! :)

Have already put entries in my Jan 2011 iCal with links to a few choice posts to remind me who said what. :D

I hope you get laid this decade! Cute how excited you are though.

The amount of criticism on this forum for the iPad is shocking, people are clearly missing the point.
I own an iPhone 3g and a Macbook, but I'll still be getting the iPad, the day it's launched. Why? Because I want it to run my life for me. I'm a student and business owner. I can wake up in the morning with my iPad on its dock with the time, open it, check my day ahead, bring up some lecture notes I wrote the day before, go to my lecture and add, including textbooks found in various apps.

It's a perfect device for what I need as a student, and to quick reference as a business owner when customers call asking about orders.
But it's also fantastic for my parents, who have now converted to the ease of Mac OSX, but don't really need a fully fledged Macbook. They surf, email, listen to music, light documents/spreadsheets and view pictures. This is perfect for them.

It seems like the only people who will not get one of these are either Iphone haters or people who don't have the money for one. I am getting one. It will make watching movies, web surfing, and reading books while traveling a lot of fun!

I'm not an iPhone hater and I won't be getting one. It doesn't fit my needs. I have a way more capable Mac Pro desktop and a way more capable MacBook Pro for my travel needs.

Everything is easier with a real keyboard. It's much more comfortable to type on and I don't have to hold the computer with one hand as I use it.

Also, the MacBook Pro has a file system, so already I can do way more with it.

Fact is... I'm not going to buy another locked down device just because I can tap the screen with my fingers. I'm a power user... I won't be getting an iPad (oh, and the name sucks big time... really... this is all they could think of?)

I realize the iPad is currently getting a great deal of criticism from tech savvy people. But consider the hundreds of thousands of non-tech people that have been "afraid" to use or buy a computer (senior citizens, disabled people for example). With this device, all they have to do is simply press the power button, and this thing instantly comes to life.

And if they simply touch the little pictures (icons) they can read online magazines, follow websites devoted to their hobbies, view pictures of their grandkids, listen to music, read books etc. All without having to deal with malware, ad-ware, viruses etc., or wondering if they have to left click or right click.

I think it's brilliant, and as it evolves, it will change the face of computing for all of us. No more external input devices. It will all be touching and gesturing.

Good points. The Ipad is not for rabid Macites but for the rest of us.
An especially good point is that you can safely browse the web because it is immune to malware, viruses and nasty flash security issues. This is what a LOT of people want especially older and younger users - to be able to use the web and not have criminals take over your computer. Instant start-up and it just works design makes it a huge success not a fail.

:D Will show my wife that post, she will LHAO - Well played!
I am nearly 40 - but feel like a kid at xmas!

So what do I get when I turn out to be right?

A year's satisfaction of choosing the right gadget?

-----------------------

Out of a lot of comments from all sides, I think the abiding USP of this device is that it is like a computer, but without the technology. The screen - without the accessories. A ticket round the world wide web - without the baggage.

Well, this post will get lost in the endless rants, but I think a lot of people are missing something here. This is priced exactly the same as a Kindle of the same size, yet its like a Kindle on steroids because it does more than just let you read books (even in the dark), like listen to music, watch media, surf the web, do some low end tasks in iWorks. I truly believe people are expecting a computer here. Maybe thats where the disappointment is coming in. Flash is the scourge of the web right now. I would love to see it go away, so not having flash is actually a blessing. People will follow sites like You Tube. Multitasking? Eh, I could go either way. Whats nice about this is it could still come in a software update. The camera thing? Well, if I wanted to take a pic and post to flicker, I think it would be way easier to snap something with my iPhone than with the iPad. And if you want to "tele-conference", this shouldnt be what you are using. I use a serious laptop so I can be hands free. It might be a cool factor to do it on this, but not very practical. So the purpose of this is something in between an iPhone and a laptop. Quit expecting something that can do everything an iPhone AND a laptop can do for $500. Go buy a netbook for $99 and pay 10 times that over a year or two in subscription fees.

Can I put my iPhone sim in the iPad 3G and avoid paying AT&T for a additional data plan?

No. iPad uses a new sim card called a micro sim and your current iPhone uses a standard sim card. When the next iPhone comes out this summer, it might have the new micro sim. Then I don't know...

Completely agree.

What I think it's great for, is to sit right next to my computer at work. I can open the Calendar app and use this for scheduling the day's to-do-list and activities. It's the perfect size for it. It's a companion to my desktop. An iphone's scheduler is too small, and I don't want to change windows to view it on my desktop while I'm working. It's much like a paper scheduler I'm used to.

Question: If I use it this way, won't I need a security lock to lock it to my desk, so nobody will run away with it? Is there a security lock hole built into the iPad?

What a ridiculously dumb statement. I don't hate the iPhone (I love the iPod Touch and would love a Sprint iPhone), and I certainly have the money for an iPad. Not all of us go handing over our credit cards to Steve Jobs every time he releases something. Some of us mature individuals (read: adults) actually stop to evaluate a product and whether or not it actually serves a purpose in our lives. If we need it, we purchase it. If it doesn't, we don't. I have an iPod Touch and a MacBook. Therefore, this product fills no immediate need for me. That may change in the future. In the meantime, I can find something more worthwhile to spend the $500+ on.
