I remember last year when Costco couldn't come to an agreement with Coke Company to reduce the price (or to offer Costco members a lower price), they decided discontinue Coke products from the store, the food court fountain drinks and employee lounge vending machines.

Costco has been known to hold grudges, so I'm not surprise to hear this news.

to lower the price for members or do you like paying a higher price

Hearsay?

Dunno but this article sounds like a rumor. Generally places like Costco and Sams are places to close out inventory of items that are getting closer to expiration. Generally they didn't always carry the latest iPods there.

Regardless if true or not, these guys don't have a good way to showcase the iPads anyway and rarelyhave any knowledgeable staff. With an iPod, it didn't take tons of explaination, but an iPad could take a lot more and they just don't have the staff to handle that type of purchase.

Ah, so that's why. I was at Costco recently and noticed the prominent switch from Coke to Pepsi products in the snack bar and vending machines.

Nice job, Costco. Keep working for the members and fighting for lower prices/better deals than the competition. Also, thanks for paying me to shop at your store.:D

I don't see how Costco halting the sales of iPod as "Crybabies".
As for some of you, instead of just mocking Costco, you need to realize it's Apple's problem for not providing one of the biggest retailers in US their iPad.

It's just a Costco's response to this unfair treatment - a way to make Apple aware of this issue. If you are the Costco's owner and being "discriminated" by Apple like this, I bet you would make a move similar to this too.

Well there goes my membership. That sucks too cause I kind of liked Costco.

Oh well.

So wait, you like shopping at Costco, but you will deny membership because they no longer sell iPods? Really?

Some people are truly owned by Apple. It's sad, really.

Big deal. Who buys iPods at Costco anyway? Costco didn't discount iPods more than a dollar or two (literally). And Costco tightened their return policy for electronics several years ago. So there was no real benefit to buying an iPod at Costco. I'm sure the same would be true for an iPad.

As much as I love Costco and Apple, the only time I bought Apple products at Costco was during Thanksgiving weekend, when they sold iTunes gift cards at a discount.

Well, maybe Apple decided to pull them from Costco along with not allowing them to do IPads. Lets not blame Costco, since Apple loves the control, I am sure they had a hand in it. It's not like they were any cheaper there than anywhere else anyway. Just for the record, I am both a Costco and Apple supporter.

Never heard of them before (being British)!

Sort of poor-man's Makro. They sell the s**t made in China that no-one else wants, not even the shopping channels, as well as large packs of baked beans, etc. Cash only.

Your comment brought back memories of the Simpson's "Pulp Fiction" parody - "... I went to the MacDonalds in Shelbyville on Friday night ....I never heard of it either ...".

I was a member for a year, used Liverpool and Edinburgh. Let's just say, you don't go to Costco unless you really have to.

I don't know if this is really a case of Costco pouting about not getting the iPad... This never seemed like an ideal business arrangement in the first place. Costco's value proposition is that you pay a membership fee to get the chance to buy stuff at a discount. Apparently Apple won't let them discount Apple products, so all they have left is the liberal return policy. Retailers don't have to eat the cost on returns -- they send it back to the manufacturer to get their own refund.

I'm guessing Apple didn't want to accept returns based on Costco's return policy anymore and Costco didn't want to give up it's return policy, which is it's only advantage over anyone else selling iPods. So probably the companies just couldn't do a deal that was to their mutual advantage. No crying... Just a business decision.

I remember when that happened. It pissed me off too since that was the only place I could find Mexican coke (the type you drink, not snort) for a pretty cheap price. You're right, this doesn't surprise me either.

Finally a post with sense.

WTF are you talking about. COSTCO sells everything a normal grocery store does but in bulk. They also sell electronics from all major brands. My g/fs family runs a liquor store and gets all there products from COSTCO.

What is this a fanboy meeting? I don't see how this really affects Costco, I'm sure they're not making much from selling an iPod. Same would hold true for iPads. In fact, however small this may be, it'll hurt Apple more than Costco. I wanted to get an iPod Touch for my little sister and with Costco's great return policy, we'd have about three months to see if she liked it and used it after the first month. Don't forget the added year of warranty. Heck, if Costco sold Macs I would jump on that, but since they don't, I go HP. I guess it's both their loses, but Costco still gets my business in the end.

Your Costco must offer different products than in the US because Costco here is known to offer higher quality products and food in bulk. It's either that or we Americans are just so used to really crappy quality goods.

Wow, that's really odd that Costco would act like a big baby over this? They would rather drop a very good revenue generating product just because they can't get the iPad from Apple? Wow, just wow.

As a Costco shareholder, I am very happy about this news. As an iPad owner, I could care less. I'll drive the other 1/4 mile to get to the Apple store or 1/2 mile to get to Fry's, and pass a Target on the way. Or I could just buy it from my Apple Store App on my iPhone.

You had a membership at Costco just to buy Apple products?!?
If that's the case you should have canceled it a long time ago.
