A little surprised to hear this, but not shocking after the Coke thing. The difference is Coke tried to raise their prices on Costco, so Costco stopped carrying their products for a while (they've since negotiated a compromise). Costco is notorious for being a picky customer, but their generous policies and tiny markups to the consumer are well-known. They pay their employees well but the highest paid employee in any Costco is the pharmacist (even their store managers barely get paid more than their cashiers).

Anyone who is a shareholder of Apple should be happy about this because Costco's return policy is moronic. Why should any retailer be allowed to sell a product, take it back in a few months and return it to the manufacturer?

Is that fair? Is that ethical. No. If you cannot decide if you want something, use a rent to own company, don't abuse return policies.

The two main factors in driving up prices are:
1. Shoplifters
2. People who abuse return policies to basically use a product for a few months and then return it for a full refund.

The product should only be returned within 30 days of purchase with the original packaging, in working order and in saleable condition. If it is out of the original packaging and more than 14 days from purchase date or appears to have been "USED", a restocking fee should be charged as the store should sell it at a discount as an open box item. A small restocking fee should be charged if you used the earbuds for example as they are sort of like "underwear".

You might be surprised.

Again, the legendary return policy. 90 days of no-questions-asked returns for electronics. (It used to be unlimited, except people were abusing it and returning their years-old tube TVs to buy the latest LCD flat screens). And a 2-year in-store warranty. And the price is a few bucks lower than at the Apple store.

I buy my electronics from Costco whenever I can (e.g. when they stock the specific model that I want) for exactly those reasons.

Good point.

Lol this is like when they stopped carrying coke products... That lasted for 10 seconds.

When I read a comment about Coscto being a baby and that they need to grow up, the only impression I get, is that that poster is feeling rejected and that they're only projecting their own feeling onto Coscto.

I love NERD RAGE. I practice it regularly. :)

As long as they still carry the jumbo Hebrew National all beef hotdog with all the fixins and bottomless soda for $1.50 I could care less about no ipads or ipods in that store.:D

Where did you hear that? Cashiers top out at about $20 I believe, supervisors do too. Managers get paid much more than that. For managers it is salary, and assure you they get paid more than just barely above cashiers.

Apple has never had much of a presence at Costco due to the price control so to me this is no big deal. In fact most of Costco's electronics are available from on-line merchants at a lower cost.

Here in California Costco is more about food staples and household necessities in a clean warehouse setting and at that they are very good.

Both Apple and Costco are great but not necessarily together.

Cry some more.

Entire Costco is babies.

I agree, it's almost as childish as Steve Jobs ordering an entire publisher removed from the Apple stores for publishing a book about him.

Had this been Apple, I think everyone bashing Costco would be singing a different tune.

I'm with Costco on this one, good for them! I shop there weekly and love it ....good to see someone stand up to "almighty Steve"

And you get 3% back by using AMEX Costco card.

Wow, that's really odd that Costco would act like a big baby over this? They would rather drop a very good revenue generating product just because they can't get the iPad from Apple? Wow, just wow.

Since you speak like you know, how much revenue is the iPod to Costco?

If you cannot provide this, then how can you say that the iPod is 'very good revenue [sic]' for Costco?

Good for Costco, more retailers need to take a stand. It usually is beneficial for the consumer when the large chains stand up against the larger distributors.

Anyone who posts about 'shrink' and shoplifting has never been to Costco. Valuables such as jewelry and small electronics are kept under lock-and-key. You bring a receipt (jewelry) or a card with a picture of the item and a barcode to the register, and they bring you the item once you pay for it. They should have the same minimal shrink as an Apple Store.

And Costco is the place to get an HDTV. Awesome prices, great warranty.

But the guy who posted about the Hebrew National hot dogs ... in case you haven't noticed, they switched to their house brand (Kirkland) about a year ago.

Off to Costco myself to put gas in the car. OK, I'm getting really OT now. :p

Yeah...this is just plain dumb. They will only hurt themselves. All the missed sales this holiday season.

Sadly, they stopped a while ago :-( They sell a Kirkland Brand that frankly tastes like chalk in comparison. Guess that means they'll have to switch to Zunes...

Well there goes my membership. That sucks too cause I kind of liked Costco.

Oh well.

You seriously boycotting Costco because they decided to drop iPod from their shelves? I like Apple products, but I'm also a big fan of Costco's New York Strip steaks -- not to mention the awesome samples they hand out and the free membership renewal via yearly cash-back earnings on my membership.

Can't say I ever thought it was wise for them to carry iPods since their discount on them was ridiculously small -- it's not like I purchase iPods in bulk. :)

Would be interesting to know why Apple decided to pass on Costco with the iPad considering they're one of the biggest retailers. Costco is much better than Sam's Club. Sam's Club could not even survive here in Canada because Costco killed them with much better prices.

Also who cancels their membership because Costco will no longer carries iPod's?
