Hopefully, but seriously where is this new Apple TV? It's been a good 2 years since last release. I'm ready to buy one, I don't know why they're delaying seeing as TV+ will be out imminently.

The Apple TV has never been on anything close to an annual schedule. Releases were in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2017.

The current gen is an A10X, which is plenty fast enough to do just about anything you'd throw at it (including Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade).

Now, there are rumors there will be a new model, but there's just not that much pressure. Don't expect one based on the existing model's age.

It's so weird that in 2009, SD cards were unusual enough that Phil had to expain what people use them for to justify why they included the slot in the MacBook Pro. Yet today, when SD cards are used more than ever by almost everyone, and pretty much every portable device that has removable storage (from phones to stills and video cameras ranging from lowest to highest end) uses SD cards, they no longer include them in their computers. I don't get why.

How many Apple devices have an SD slot?

I'm not sure if they feel there is a need for a new AppleTV since theirs is pretty much 4K / HDR good to go. That said it is entirely possible we see a new AppleTV launch THIS WEEK as part of the "week of new products" that Apple seems to have going to help hype the launch of AppleTV+. *IF* they launch a new AppleTV it will be a high end one, they pretty much signaled they don't want to play in the $50 stick market last week when they launched the AppleTV app for Amazon Firestick.

It's probably going to be called Apple TV Pro :)

People had similar reactions when Apple got rid of the floppy disk drive and numerous legacy ports on the iMac. Removing ports is a thing they like to do.

Apple TV Pro - same as the existing Apple TV 4K HDR but this time it costs $300.

And morons queue to type "take my money".

I really hope they do. I'm desperate to see the pricing and available specs, though I suppose it will be disgustingly priced in the UK if they are planning to keep existing 13 and 15" models.

So much this! It's not required to make TV+ and Arcade work, but it would be foolish of them not to take advantage of the hubbub surrounding TV+ and Arcade to say, "oh, and hey both work fabulous on our new Apple TV 5!" (oh, fine, if they feel the need to call it an "Apple TV Pro", I'll still buy it - holding out with my 4 year old 1080p ATV4 for a while longer).

Plus, they've got much newer SoC's they could use now, and they'd make a whole lot of people happy (and sell a whole lot of units to return buyers) if they'd come up with a new remote - same control layout, but a more ergonomic housing (the current 1/4" thick slippery rounded rectangular slab was clearly designed for elegance rather than ergonomics, but Ive is gone now, they don't have to forsake handling for thinness).

Is this how reporting works these days? Ask a question that nobody can/ is allowed to answerabout, speculate based on previous speculation, and call it content.

Are you waiting for the Pro model or ?
I’m just waiting for the update to see what’s what and then make a purchasing decision from there! We know it’s coming due to its mention in an iOS build, however I’m surprised it hasn’t been announced yet as ATV+ is just around the corner.

To sort of read the tea leaves, Rene Ritchie has indicated Mac stuff "later this year" and Gruber is saying we'll see the new MacBook Pro when they release the Mac Pro.

When does fall officially end?

AirPods pro were announced at 9am PDT so hopefully in 38 mins we will know.

That cadence of 3, 2, 3, 2 indicates that 2020 is the best bet to keep to the pattern. I would expect an A12X as well, which seems nuts considering...but then again the A10X Fusion seemed nuts in September 2017, but here we are.
