There will be a decent number of people who want to exchange due to the size. Others will love it, and some will be on the fence and just live with it.

The return period is limited, so the smaller 6 may not be available, leading to complaints about having to cancel completely, then wait a month or two.

On the flip side, the returned Plus phones will build an inventory of refurbs quickly for replacements first, and way off, refurbs on the Apple Store.

The new warranty replacements and refurb inventory will be needed quickly I think. These large phones will be bigger targets for damage IMO.

Again, a lot of people will love it.

Yeah, shirt pocket wouldn't work for me as I wear t-shirts and sweaters wouldn't want a phone resting against my chest anyway. The holder in the car sounds great, I'm going to look into that.

I'm also looking into belt clip cases and slender wallet cases with straps that would let me sling the case over a shoulder like a light purse and largely forget about it until I need it. I could keep it in such a case and still chuck it in my larger travel purse or backpack.

Yeah, I think this is going to work out really well. And if it doesn't I can't understand why there are people here who would feel smug about it. I'd feel sad if a forum member got something they were really looking forward to and it didn't work out for them--not smug and pleased with myself.

Well, there seems to be generally three sized phones now (has been like that since HTC and Samsung came out with as many sizes as they have). HTC and Samsung both have the most general sizes (and now thankfully, Apple). The 3 general sizes seem to be 4" to 4.3"....(small) 4.7" to 5.0" (medium)... And the 5.5" to 6.0" ( large). I know... Duh. But jumping up one size from a smaller size makes you go "wow, big difference".

I went from the iPhone 4S, to the HTC One (4.6 in) for around 8 months, then went to the larger (5.9" HTC one max). Wasn't such a size shock, although each step was somewhat of a noticeable size shock that took me a while to get used to.

Anytime you jump a size up, it will be VERY noticeable. If I was coming from the iPhone, I would (after having been there, done that) go for the 4.6 because it will seem huge as well, after using the iPhone. Use it for a year or so, get the feel for the size diff, and THEN feel the 5.5" to see if you like it. The 4.6 will feel shockingly large. I think a lot of people coming from the iPhone directly to the new 5.5 iPhone will be unhappy. It's going to be a HUGE difference, from feel to everyday usage, to as you were saying, just carrying the thing. A lot of things change with such a large phone, as you were saying, just to carry, access and use. A phone that big will force you to change the way you own a phone.

I personally cannot wait for the 5.5" plus(which will actually be a size down for me). I've owned every iPhone since the first, but didn't buy into the 5 or 5s, because I wanted more screen size. Looking forward to coming back to Apple as everything I own is an Apple product, and LOVE their stuff.

Apple doesn't sell iPhone refurbs in the US (although a 3rd party would seem to handle them on ebay).

I can't wait to get my 6 Plus. I have a Nexus 5 and the regular iPhone 6, despite its smaller screen, is taller than my Nexus 5 with a 5" screen.

Followed a week later by a hord of people who have been looking with envy at everyone with a 6 Plus and now regrets not spending the extra hundred bones to get the real deal.

Totally agree!

I feel there will be a reverse of people who were too conservative with their choice. Remember it's not too wide which is the most important factor.

I would have bought the 4" 5 form factor in that scenario. People forget the 6 is also a healthy increase in size for an iPhone. Even if there was no plus it would have been the single biggest increase in size to date. A 5 form factor w/ minimal bezels would be ideal.

Exactly. This 4.7" iPhone 6 is no Moto X, perhaps the best ergonomic smartphone ever. The size of the 6 is more like the HTC One M7 and some folks hated that extra size versus the screen capacity.

The 6 is huge in comparison to previous iPhones let alone what the + will be.

Not me, I had the Note 3. Some folks love it, I sold it and got the S5 which is big enough as it is.

Weird analogies, like I said. But my point remains the same. Humans adjust to any change, regardless. But.. TV's aren't carried in a pocket.

So then technically my original thought was right. Look. It's all opinion. You and many others may not think it's suitable, but for what I and many others use it for, the size is very necassary and most welcome. And TV's are a a better analogy to use than the other things as it is technological and dealing with size, too.

I hope every single person loves their purchase and doesn't get that post-purchase remorse due to something as adoptable as a size change.

This premise of this whole thread is ridiculous.

Are there thousands of Samsung Notes being returned for being too big? G3's? LG Vista?

TWIT, maybe you know what that is, did a launch day run down, interviewed press at the launch... The consensus of the reporters who held both the 6 and the 6 Plus - the 6 Plus was a better phone.

Pretty much it was as perfect as it gets. Obviously next year will have something better, but right now, this is it.

Where you want something portable, and as close to an iPad as possible, the 6 Plus gives you that. It's difficult enough carrying the Mini and the iPad Air round, so now with the 6 Plus, you can leave the pads at home.

The 6 Plus does not replace an iPad, in as much as the iPad does not replace the laptop. They offer different experiences.

As far as too big for your pocket. The 6 Plus is the same size as a pocket calculator. Casio Scientific, that is. But I digress. We were blasting Samsung for having such large phones and how ridiculous it was to hold this "plate" up to your face. The fact of the matter, the iPhone's size was based not on how it looks, but if you can use it with one hand or not.

The iPhone 4 = 1 hand, for most people.
The iPhone 5 = 1 hand for Large handed people.
The iPhone 6 = 1 hand, for most tasks, and a bit of a struggle to the top of the screen.
The iPhone 6 Plus = 1 hand for the bottom of the screen, and double tape the home button to reach the top of the screen. This is not optimum, but it's a start.

I do think the 5.5" screen came about for several reasons, one being, can they find a way to use it better? The second, how do you respond to customers who actually are asking for one? Apple is not 100% "We know what's best for you" Apple has the balance of knowing what people want, before they have it, and refining tools until they meet the needs of the people, even if those needs change over time.

Some suggest the 5.5" screen should have come last year. Whatever, it's here now, and I think those who got it, will like it.

See the interface on the Apple Watch? Now imagine an iOS version where the center of the "app universe" is in the lower left where your thumb is.

Just sayin'...

I think the 5.5" screen size will be great. Earlier this year, I EDGE'd up from an iPhone 5 to a Nokia Lumia Icon, which has a 5" screen. I can't go down to 4.7" like the iPhone 6, and the iPhone 6 Plus is only 2cm taller than the Icon, but is actually a few mm less in width and 2mm thicker. I have no problems fitting the Icon in pockets and cup holders and expect the iPhone 6 Plus to be just as easy.

There will be a lot of people going from the 6 to the plus. The shortage on the plus will ensure bring that. People want what they can't have. Gold Iphone? They will be snatched up as quick as they can make them for awhile. And people that ordered the smaller one will be trading up a soon as they can get a hold of a plus

I do agree people want the "new" feature each year, last year being "gold" and this year being the "plus". It's also driven by what's short in demand, which as you mentioned, is the 6+.

I really don't see myself wanting the 6+ even still. I want OIS, better battery life, and 2-Up, but really cannot see myself using a phone any bigger than the 6.

As one of those rare folks who can comfortably use a 5.5" phone with one hand with no issue, please just ****.

Yes, I am 6'8" and larger than the average bear, and I have been waiting for a larger screen iPhone for a while. I had a 4S but the screen was just too damned small, so I jumped ship to a Note 2 and I love it, but I always said if I could get an iOS device with the same screen size I'd do it in a heartbeat, so I am now waiting for my 64GB 6+.

Not everyone looks ridiculous using a large phone, it's just a matter of scale.

I agree with you 100%. Listen here folks, this is a smart person. You could learn a thing or two from someone like this. Apple made a mistake bringing the large screen thing into the mix but theres still hope for you to ignore it and get a 6!

To each is their own and really ATT had nonprofit in this market area. Now watch them take 30-40 percent of big phone market. It's only a win for them.

Yeah, definitely. I might think "why would anyone want a phone that big??" and you might think "why would anyone want a phone that small??"... but hey, it's options. Different strokes for different folks. It's just nice that Apple is now giving that option!

i think it will only looks ridiculous if youre using the phone and holding it to your head or using it in a dark area and lighting up the room lol. sorta like the note 3

September 19, 2014: watch these forums erupt with people complaining the iPhone 6+ is too big, doesn't fit in pockets, not portable enough, or requires a manpurse.

Followed by a chorus of people saying they had no idea how big it was, "don't really need" a 5.5" screen, and regret spending over $800 for a pizza peel that makes them look ridiculous.
Something is definitely making another person look ridiculous but it is not the phones that some people just bought. ;)

I learn nothing from this guy except someone has enough time on their hands to start a thread telling buyers what he thinks they will do when they get their new iPhone as though he has come crystal ball and knows exactly what a stranger needs/wants. He is so cool.

the bottom line is, there are 2 different products. a phone and a phablet. pick the one you want and enjoy.

I have slim fit jeans and I have a HTC One M7. That is as big as I would care to go. Not all the slims are cut the same either.

Time will tell about the size of the Plus. And do not figure sitting down isn't a whole different ballgame.

And it has little to do with looking ridiculous. Let's see how many are comfortable using it. :)
