I'd like to say to all Aussie members that I will also be up at 4am to watch the event. Unless of course I forget the alarm, in which case it will be 8AEST :D

Yeah, I am going to ctach 4 hours or so sleep and then get up for the 4am start AEST :)
Yeah i'm from Melbourne
I figure there is no real point of sleeping...... just stay awake till 4 is my plan. Don't have to go to work until 4.30pm so grab a snooze in the arvo......

Though my broadband had been dropping in and out of service..... I'll kill telstra if it is down at 4..

Maybe I just don't pay attention to details, but this is the first time around a MWSF-type event that almost every major item in the store is shipping in 24hrs... just a few ipod models that are taking a few days to ship.

Maybe Apple caught on that people watch those numbers to get an idea of what's coming. Steve likes to surprise!

from the front page of the Apple site in 10.5 hours: :D

edit: ok, if I'd been thinking I'd have blacked out the G5 on the Power Mac. oh well. what can you expect from a 15 minute photoshop job?

Rosetta

Does anyone think Apple has been underestimating Rosetta speed publicly to keep G4 sales up. Oh Rosetta is pretty cool.....it will be great for your word processing apps. I mean we all know they have been working on it for 5 years. I bet it smokes the G4 configurations.

Sorry that it's off-topic, but I really wanna know how you people can seemlessly photoshop like that. Is there some tutorial?
Back on topic, 10 hours, 40 mins left...

uh, it's not seamless. look at the iBook and the iMac. the others turned out good because the originals were on black so they translated over well.
Oh ok. So you just did the rest with layers?

yep, and the magic wand tool (played around with tolerance until it looked right). I used Fireworks though, never really gotten the hang of Photoshop. be sure to turn on antialiasing on the tool though, so that the lines it erases are as smooth as possible.

Tomorrow is my Christmas

I didn't get anything for Christmas really because I wanted to see what was coming out tomorrow. The day has finally arrived and I'm ready to finally see what I'll be getting from Santa!!!

Thank you Jesus for being born so I could get some awesome Apple product tomorrow!!! LOL

why could the Catholic church not have had the foresight to pick sometime around the end of January to have Christmas? that way it would be after MWSF and we'd all get to enjoy. :D

oh man that sucks, i believe my ibook is about to die as well but then again its not my main computer.

about shipping times, im not sure they can really range from "Today" for i dunno, a few weeks. i'm not a hardcore apple genius sadly so i dunno.

Yeah, it does suck. Then again, these things aren't made to last forever, and, to be brutally honest, I have been twisting my brain into all kinds of acrobatic poses for months now to try and justify a new laptop. It's really the timing that sucks more than anything. Well, that and coughing up enough couch-change to actually buy one on a student's budget.

Apple should work out a student deal with Maruchan. Buy a new laptop; get a semester's worth of ramen for free.

If the new whateverBooks are available immediately, I hope they aren't sold out by the time I get done with class tomorrow. I'd skip class to place the order the second they are announced, but I'm the only one in that class!

thank god for my treo in school tommorow!
what would i do without that thing?!

I can't sleep, i'm so excited!

Just seen on The New York Times web page:

Apple to Sell S.N.L. Skits for iPod Use

iTunes is already advertising the new SNL clips, although you can't actually get to them yet AFAIK. Check out the front page, it's on one of the rotating banners at the top.

EDIT: OK, you can definitely get to them now- theres a pretty good selection. The "Best of" videos are $1.99 for the whole video. Some random sketches (including the previously free Lazy Sunday and the Steve Jobs weekend update sketch) are also $1.99.

I was able to purchase two of the Best Of 1+hr SNL videos for only $1.99 a piece. Seems like a good deal (certainly cheaper than the DVD of the same content).

Funny thing. I just saw pictures of Bill Gates in basically the same situation. He pulled up in a car(mercedes limo, not the convertible), was photographed sitting in the back seat with the door open, then getting out(chauffeur held the door for him). He was carrying what looked like a happy meal.

So yes, guys are staked out of whatever center Bill Gates is speaking.

BTW the pictures were from ces and were posted on engadget.com. Last week.

Boy those crazy windows users and their "windows madness!" Just seems really nuts ;)

Just seems odd to me. I was born here (the states) but not BRED here (to use a phrase), so maybe it's me being removed from the celebrity madness or me knowing 'higher ups" in various industries, but it seems bonkers. The same way I feel when someone says "A Mariah Carey lyric kept me from suicide." i feel when I see a photo like that.

Stripping people of their humanity and turning them into God-like creatures only to then self-lower them into things one can relate to or feel a connection with. Replace Apple fan with those Windows fans with fans of musicical artists and so on.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Mr. Jobs. To me (in my "industry) he is an icon and someone to admire. Freakishly admire, no, nor do I want to be him or watch his every move. I wouldn't freak out "Oh my GOD it's HIIIIIIIM!!" and snap a quick photo.

Maybe that will clear up my comment.

ok, revised theory: Steve spends all of his keynote talking about how switching to Intel was a bad idea, then announces a switch to AMD. then, at the end:

Steve: "One more thing. Six months ago, I told you the switch to Intel would be completed by the end of 2006. well, now there will be no switch to Intel. instead, I'm announcing - and I'm thrilled about this - that the switch to AMD will be completed by the end of 2010."

[is forced to leave the stage by the angry Mac fans pelting him with ironic fruit.]
