Those rumors are some serious b.s. What about the new intel PowerBooks? Nothing mentioned about them at all in the "rumor roundup". Also, there is no way in h3ll we'll see a Core Duo in the Mac Mini. You people are out of your minds if you think that the Core Duo will find it's way into the Mini in any form. The mini is an entry level machine, and it won't get professional grade components. Frankly, I don't see the Core Duo finding it's way into any platform other then PowerBook. Just stop and look at all of the Core Duo PC notebooks announced last week at CES. ALL of them are PROFESSIONAL grade notebooks.

there will not be any powerbook updates... look at apple's website... they still have an ad for the New Powerbooks.... what would they do then? replace that with "here are the even newer powerbooks" its just not going to happen... dont even worry about thinking about it

If you think you'll see an intel mac mini with a core duo tomorrow, then you must be new here too. (Earth that is)

Lol, not just earth.. the company that is known for delivering less for more suddenly doing the reverse?!

That's new :)

They also have to wait just as long as us to see MWSF. I think they have it worse actually, because instead of waiting until 9:00am tomorrow, they have to wait until 6:00pm their time. (18:00) ouch!

Although it is fairly good for us students, what with not having to suddenly become...ill.

Plus, Biology exam tommorow, followed by a chemistry one on wednesday, suffice to say, as fate would have it, i wont be able to find out what's been released until wednesday lunchtime.

absolutly sucks :(

You guys are bastards!

I've been following each thread and staying calm and now --- I can't resist and HAVE TO JOIN THE PARTY.

So, I'm probably going to be glued to this chair chatting with y'all about this event. No work done.

(bastards meant in a nice way of course :D )

Dammit, I'm more excited than CHRISTMAS this year!!!

Silicon, why the 50/50 chance of no powerbooks>? I knwo it's been overshadowed by this plasma thing (which I do NOT think will happen) but I didn't see any clear signs that no powerbooks would be out.

My gut - 13.1 WS iBook AND PB tomorrow. 15 and 17 inch powerbokos out by March. What say?

I haven't been this anxious about an event since I was a kid hoping that I was going to get the Star Wars crew transport for Christmas. (The big long ship in Empire.) I feel like an idiot since I know there is a better then 50/50 chance that no PowerBooks will show up tomorrow. Do you think if I have milk and cookies delivered to Steve on stage it would help?

Seriously though. I've viewed several MWSF's and this one is the most anticipated by many. It really shows the state of Apple's laptop line.

Relax Jonny. You'll get your Core Duo PowerBook tomorrow. All the G4s need to go away now.

And whoever has the logic of going by Apple's website to see which things will be coming out tomorrow needs to be slapped. :D

I think the new Shuffle is a dead cert.

Amazon UK is Apple's biggest seller of iPods in the UK and it is currently completely sold out of 1Gb Shuffles and give no indication of when they expect more stock. Normally when they are sold out of a product they give a short description of what the situation is. For the 1Gb shuffle there is just a white space where you'd expect to see this.

As for the other stuff, apparently the sales of the current Mac line up are holding up fairly well so they might concentrate their efforts elsewhere. Although I'd love to see a really speedy Intel powered Mac of somekind.

Also, the media centre concept is something I'd buy. The Windows ones look good but are quite expensive and don't have the magic of an Apple design.

The uber 42 inch TV sounds cool but I would imagine the (huge) price would really restrict sales.

What if the new line ISN'T a powerbook at all? Could be called something else since it's a new architecture and direction. So -- the current ad would remain the NEWEST powerbooks, while the new ones are better but ... NOT powerbooks. :)

Yeah, I'm stretching, but I want a 17" PD Dammi! Actually, for my needs, I would even go with a 19" if they offered one

I really hope he announces something that pwns the pants off all of us, whether it be Mac, iPod, or otherwise.

I wonder if he'll mention anything on Leopard's status... probably not, but it would be cool if he did. I'm itching to see what they're planning to include in it.

Am I the only one who thinks the "new Shuffle" and "42-inch display" rumors might be one and the same?

But if not tomorrow, then soon...

And I DID get the Rebel Transport for Christmas :) Still have it in a closet.

Apple has been known at times to keep the "NEW" badge on a product for its entire lifetime--right up until the next "NEW" version. Can't read too much into that.

All past Steve Jobs Keynotes have been so highly anticipated....

< * shakes head * > ...I...can't...stand...it...anymore...

What will be left for WWDC '06?

Oh wait...

Leopard demo
Intel PowerBooks
Quad G5's accross the board

..... < * fainted * > ......

Ummmm... since when does Apple's website the day before MWSF hold any water as to what they'll be unveiling at MWSF tomorrow??

I've been wondering when they might start re-using the iPod brand elsewhere... for example an iPod Laptop!

It may just be me on this one ( too many beers tonight ) but iDisk seems to be TWICE the speed as normal

as a backup i'm downloading all 600 ish MB of my idisk files over night , not that i don't trust apple:rolleyes:

Burrrrp !:p

I think they've caught onto that one! :) But checking the major distributors (i.e. Amazon UK) can yield some more interesting results.:D

Maybe that's the reasoning they want you to use. It's a trick!

Personally, however, I don't expect us to be lining up to buy new PowerBooks by this time tomorrow.

It could. ;) Then those who ordered "new powerbooks" would get "even newer powerbooks".

I'd like even newer powerbooks! (not getting my hopes up)

Good point, though they did update the TiBook 2 months after a previous update a while back, so it's possible. I mean, who would have thought they'd do a major rev to the imac G5 so soon after the last update, so it's possible I guess.

They could put the (crap) screens from the current ones into the new PB's and recycle some components.. there's no telling how many PB's they've actually built, and there will be a need for legacy machines (like the G4 towers they kept around that booted OS 9 native for a couple years.
They're already taking a bath on the laptops they have now, so why not just go with the big update and write off the more than half decade of moto's disinterest.

It's going to be interesting.

Too Late I think.

Everybody talks about Intel on PowerBook, what about one last version of PowerBook using PowerPC dual core G4, I think Freescale released that chips several months ago, isn't?

Personally I think this would be a great update but it is probably too late.

I mean now with all of the Intel hype, and with new intel ibooks/mac minis near or here, Steve would be booed off of the stage if he announced a G4 PB even if it was a dual core.

What gets me though is all this intel hype! The yonah is nice but it's strength is low power and dual core. If you have pro software that is not optimised for multi-threaded processing and makes extensive use of Alti-vec code the Yonah is going to suck.

The yonah's clock speed is not much higher than the current G4's and for single threaded applications there isn't much performance boost. Also too much is made of the FSB, the G4 167mhz bus utilizes a large cache and is full speed. The Yonah 667 mhz FSB is a quad pumped 167 which means the fastest speed is only 167 mhz if the data chunk is smaller than maximum cache. i.e. there is not much of a performance hit for most pro applications on the G4.

I can personally tell you that running a current 2.2 ghz Pentium-M laptop side by side with my 1.67ghz G4 PB the performance is tit for tat. Photoshop startup, filtering, editting, jpeg compression, etc. etc. There is barely any difference and yes the Pentium-M has power-saving off and is performance mode.

I don't think Apple would go that route personally - where would they be sold? Apple Store or a *insert plasma company retailers name here* shop? Although it's certainly a nice idea! I think that it would somewhat go against Apple's latest ideas and such...

Uber

Like cars bundled with iPods? Every big plasma dealer has iPods in stock, so why not sell the new mini's with the same retailers? Its a big opportunity for extra sales channels so i don't think Apple can just say 'njet', especially stockholders wise.

Hmmm. I'm thinking we're going to see some upgraded portables tomorrow.
