Well, I'm shopping for a new laptop so hopefully Apple releases a stunning Intel-powered iBook or PowerBook (or whatever they decide to call em come MWSF).

Right, it's keynote time. I'd best call Steve, looks like he's forgotten. Again. This happened at the WWDC and the Paris Mac Expo. Actually he's been late for every event, pretty piss-poor CEO if you ask me.... ;)

The more I think of it, the more I think booze is the answer.

Booze always works for necessary "insight" about what Apple is, without a shred of doubt, most certainly going to introduce at any given Macworld. On Tuesday, everybody has to sober up. :)

But, but, it is Tuesday. I don't want to sober up!!

Please at least the new Mac mini with DVR be true. The sound processor on my projection TV just died. And with a Mac mini with DVR and a 30" LCD I would be one happy camper right now.

man, what a let-down. for some reason i thought the keynote was today... so i rushed home to MR to check out the new stuff and all i get is a countdown

My crystal ball tells me the following:
7) So, anything available for the Intel binary half of the Apple's software suite of dual binaries to run on? Introduces new Intel-based Mac mini, and maybe...iBooks. If iBooks are introduced, the form factor goes HD ready wide-screen and small, not too small, but smaller than the present form factor and still be practical as an everyday notebook.

9) After faux end of keynote, there's one more thing...

And it's the all-new movie rental store. Designed as the first real-world alternative to renting DVD's, the Movie store will use newly enhanced iDisk technology already integrated into OS X to store high quality movies where they can be instantly viewed (but not downloaded). No waiting, no hours wasted on long downloads, no trips to the DVD rental store, no need to return anything. It will "revolutionize" the way we watch movies, as the Music store revolutionized the way we purchased and listen to music . Integrated, of course, into front row, which will now ship on all Macs. .Mac subscription not required (assuming it follows the al la carte approach of the Music store). Most folks prefer to buy their songs, but most folks prefer to rent movies. Maybe an option to purchase a movie as well, but the crystal ball is very fuzzy here.

Well, we'll see. Don't be surprised if you a see a slightly used crystal ball for sale on eBay this Wednesday.

yeah i'm seeing that a lot of that makes sense.... but, i've pointed out above the ones i don't agree with. i don't think they'll just push out one Intel based mac. I think they're going to "wow" everyone by releasing a pile of em, probably, iB, and MM (guess what they mean). and maybe the powerbook (would make me happier than seeing an intel mini :))

i think the Plasma thing may be right. if it's got a DVR in it it'll be a killer.

the movie store thing? yeah using iDisk tech, but no downloading? how the heck will that fly? it has to be iPoddable* to work methinks.

*please note i just copyrighted this word cause i've never seen it before and like it. ;)

well, my iBook has been repaired 4 times. I hope Apple gets it right this time with solid, realiable, ibooks. I think they changed to Asus for motherboards this time from Quantum.

Those rumors are some serious b.s. What about the new intel PowerBooks? Nothing mentioned about them at all in the "rumor roundup". Also, there is no way in h3ll we'll see a Core Duo in the Mac Mini. You people are out of your minds if you think that the Core Duo will find it's way into the Mini in any form. The mini is an entry level machine, and it won't get professional grade components. Frankly, I don't see the Core Duo finding it's way into any platform other then PowerBook. Just stop and look at all of the Core Duo PC notebooks announced last week at CES. ALL of them are PROFESSIONAL grade notebooks.

Drink your juice, Shelby.

iPodulate

Ignoring the Macintosh side of things, and that iPod updates are almost impossible. I reckon that Apple will:

1. Open the iPod platform to third party makers - at least limited to widget making in the first instance. This will give a shot in the arm to the iPod world without having to release anything (other than a possible shuffle upgrade). Widgets for iPods makes a lot of sense.

2. Spin the iPod division off completely from Apple...while less likely they are going to have to do it someday.

3. We may even see new software and hardware announcements that make the iPod more central to the "hub" concept. Integrating .Mac, iTMS, DVR, Macintosh, FrontRow etc. wth each other.

How about this, not Apple selling the plasma's but other big name company's bundling there plasma's with the mini. Plausible and the plasma rumors would fit in perfectly.
Hehe, hope it would be a Fujitsu plasma.

I'm yet to see an LCD beat a plasma for quality.

Burn in, good plasmas are hard to burn in, and if they leave a mark, they go after a minute or so. LCD's can be worse, they can burn in for hours (my iMac LCD is awful for this, I can read the menu bar for a few hours while playing games. :S

My predictions for the keynote:

  1. Mac minis (intel processors and front row 2...blah blah blah)
  2. iLife/iWork '06 (iLife may include Front Row (not version 2), iWork may include a spreadsheet application)
  3. Some type of change to the iPod line. My guess is that they will introduce an iPod nano with a lower capacity (like, 1 GB)
  4. I think there's a possibility of new iBooks with intel processors as well.

The next Intel notebook won't be a Powerbook for the simple reason that it won't have a Power PC processor in it. So no need to worry about Powerbook updates - I think the Rev E Als were the last of the Powerbooks.

MWSF tomorrow:

Mac Mini will get the intel VIIV or whatever the multimedia one is.
iBooks get Pentium M (Dothan) and then get Core Solo this spring.
Powerbooks get Core Duo and I am a happy camper.

Any questions?

You're so wrong it's funny :p :D

White finish with a glowing Apple logo? That'll be the bane of my home theatre experience!
