so no refund for third party cases....

interesting, guess we will have to return ours and get it from Apple...

so not worth it for $30

Free bumper, now I'm REALLY convinced that they saw this coming before launch. I can't believe they would actually feed the PR disaster, but they did :(

So wait...

"we're human, we make mistakes...just not this time. Go **** yourselves"

That about sum it up

They only compared bars, they didn't show us a 3GS
People didn't call because they knew what they would be told.
And people held their phones normally because they showed us they had put the gap where you hold a phone normally? Really?

Again, obvious why they did this on a Friday, they are just slinging all the stuff they can and going to wait the weekend to see what sticks and what doesn't. Put a 'free prize' out in the near future to foster a 'wait and see what this does' attitude and hope the problem can be swept under the carpet.

Apple has lost all integrity.

OH MY GOD.

For those complaining about the Apple Care number that was alluded to and have attenuation issues, did you call AppleCare?

Reasonable people and responsible consumers who have substantive technical issues with a device make the manufacturer aware of it and not complain about in anonymously on the Internet.

I think the voting analogy is cogent. If you didn't let Apple know of your problem, you can't complain about the statistics they post.

Return your phone or accept your case.

If my phone is one of the low... .55% then I want to be able to return and exchange for a WORKING one... I DONT WANT A BUMPER!!!

You could call Applecare. (Something you should have done once you realized your phone was not meeting your expectation.)

It's funny how everyone on here was moaning about the antennae of the phone a few weeks ago, and now Steve has said there basically isn't an issue and now everyone on here is saying that their iP4 is fine as a call never drops. Such BS.

Sorry nerd.

Coming from the guy who's posting on an Mac forum. If you haven't noticed, this topic has direct links to live coverage of the event. Maybe you should have clicked on one of those links instead of being offended when someone makes you look stupid.

Every single IP4 has the flaw. Some are just not experiencing it. Exchanging it will do no good.

Q: Well it's interesting, there aren't any cases out there, and it's hard to get cases now. If the third party case buyers can produce a receipt, why not give them one?
Steve: It's really simple, if we tell people what our next product is, they stop buying our current products. Sometimes websites buy stolen property and they get out there... and case makers have a history of showing off their new cases for our new products. The case vendors haven't had a history of helping to keep our work under wraps.

Not sure what to make of that answer...

Sounds like an awfully vindictive stance, basically make a point of driving customers AWAY from case-makers because they aid in leaking new products. That's so unlike Apple, to not cooperate with third-parties!

10:48AM Q: Will there be refunds for AT&T contracts?
A: I believe so, yes.

I believe so? A tad ambiguous I think. I hope this also applies to UK iPhone owners who are locked into paying 18 to 24 months of line rental to close their account.

Last time I checked Steves title is CEO of Apple not AT&T..

Yup, thanks whiners! I just got me a free bumper.

I know about 30-40 people with an iPhone 4, many are launch day phones.

Only one had a reception issue and this was due to a SIM card reading error.

Went to the apple store and they handed him a new one, problem solved.

One of my friends freaked out about all the reports and returned his and went back to a 3Gs. He also has been through at least 6 3Gs iPhones due to light leaks, and other fussiness. He is kind of neurotic and psycho about his electronics.

Oh BTW, did anyone catch that, 3 million phones! No wonder you can't walk into an apple store and buy one. That is freaking phenomenal that Apple sold more iPhone 4's in 22 days than other handset makers will EVER sell of their competing devices.

I guess Windows 7 is pretty freaking phenomenal too then

Many people go caseless. I've never used a case on my iPhone and none of the people around me in line when I waited for the 4 had a case either. Apple puts a lot of time/money/effort into the look and feel of their devices. To me it seems really stupid to pay for all that and then throw a case on it.

You're right. I bought a slim smartphone for a reason. Why would i want to go putting it in a thick case? Also, didnt jobs rant on and on about how beautiful this phone is? Now its "put it in a case or take it back" WTF??

The End

Thank goodness that's been addressed. Now we can get on with more interesting rumors and news here on MR... ;)

11:03AM Q: Would you have done anything differently knowing what you know now?
Steve: Well, of course the Consumer Reports stuff was bad, and of course we would have liked to get on this sooner. We just got this data. We just learned what was going on. We're an engineering company. We think like engineers. We love it, we think it's the right way to solve real problems. I don't think that's going to change, and the way we love our customers isn't going to change. Maybe it's human nature -- when you're doing well, people want to tear you down. I see it happening with Google, people trying to tear them down. And I don't understand it... what would you prefer?
Jobs in concern for Google shocker!

Hardware design in this generation?

-Maybe, We'll see.
-Those seeing a problem can get a case.

WTF are you talking about? Every flip phone or candybar phone I ever had, had an antenna on top. The droid x has the antenna up in the top of the phone.

That is confusing me. A lot of articles have stated that is a FCC regulation, but a lot of phones have their antenna on the top.

Brilliant move by Steve and Apple.
What other company would go public with a thing like this?
And to all the continuing whiners.
They have offered you a free fix or your money back.
Are you all so desperate for attention or the need to complain that you can't get off your bitching butts and enjoy the day?
IT'S A PHONE.
Don't like it...TAKE IT BACK.
Jeeeeeeez
:apple::apple::apple:

I like to know how many of the whiners own an iP4? Still think most of them don't really own one.

Phones aren't perfect

All phones have this problem.

If you say that, and you have PhD people to back that up, I'll accept it.

But if they're all crap, then I won't be buying the one that costs five hundred quid.

Muppet.

The real question I want to hear is

"are there going to be any internal modifications for iPhones shipping after 30 SEP"

What is the real reason for stopping free bumpers at that time?

Wait... they 'just learned what was going on' yet they've been working on this for the past 22 days. Uhm... wat?

I think this was handled great today.

Facts don't lie. Only 0.55% of users call AppleCare with problems. Only 1.7% return rate, versus 6% for 3GS. Dropped calls on par with 3GS. Attenuation happens on other phones. Despite all of this, Apple still gives out free cases.

This antenna-gate has been nothing more than overblown hysteria.

Deleted.
