I can tell you one thing. The iPhone 4GS or whatever it's called will have best damn antennae in the business ;)

Well

I am satisfied...I get a refund for my launch day purchase of a bumper and Steve said he loved me....

:p

But who here does not have or plan on having a case of some sort for their iPhone4?

um....ME.

I can't imagine not having some sort of case? I've had one for ever phone I've owned... especially my iPhones to protect them.

i can't imagine putting an ugly case on a work of art. Maybe they should cover the Mona Lisa with aluminum foil to protect it from the light. U probably think car bras are a good idea too, after all, they'll protect your beautiful paint so that your car looks new. OH, wait, NO WILL KNOW IT LOOKS NEW BECAUSE ITS COVERED UP!

iPhones are tough, you can carry them in a pocket and drop them and whatnot, and they work fine. Why thicken it up and interfere with it's operation with an ugly case?!

11:08AM Q: Was a recall ever up for discussion?
Steve: We get email from people all over the world about issues. We're really serious about this. We try to figure this out. We come out to their places with test equipment, we want to see logs. We try to get the info and figure it out...
Bob: For the record, we told them we were coming first.
Steve: And we didn't break down any doors.

ROFL! Great to hear this kind of banter. :D

basically what we have learned here from today's conference is that:

Smartphones are like cars, each new make and model handle differently then the prior make and model. This does not imply any sort of defect.

I think this was handled great today.

Facts don't lie. Only 0.55% of users call AppleCare with problems. Only 1.7% return rate, versus 6% for 3GS. Dropped calls on par with 3GS. Attenuation happens on other phones. Despite all of this, Apple still gives out free cases.

This antenna-gate has been nothing more than overblown hysteria.

Oh please, anyone following the news knew what they were going to say. I called an Apple Expert (are they including those numbers under AppleCare?) and they had to call me back the next day. No comparison with a 3GS, and giving out a free prize to hope to shut people up.

The press conference was a steaming pile of disingenuous RDF. Eat it up all you want, I'm sure you'll say it tastes great!

They needed the keynote to share their data to the press. They needed the long Q&A to clear up any mis-conceptions of their data. This whole thing was basically a kiss-and-makeup event with the press.

Software fix for the attenuation problem not likely, because "It happens in every other smartphone".

Good. Now all the whiney iphone/apple haters can return their iPhones and go get their droids. Remember? Nobody FORCED you to buy an iPhone. But I suspect the majority of whiners don't even own an iPhone, they are just bashers. In which case they will lie in the weeds until the next media driven mountain out of molehill drama.

I find it all...rather humorous

EXACTLY. This is basically a non-issue for iPhone 4 owners. The people most vocal about this issue are JEALOUS AND INSECURE Android owners.

1) 2) we looked at the statistics, we asked what's the percentage of all iPhone 4 users that have called AppleCare about the antenna or reception, or anything near reception problems. Because you would have thought 'Jesus, it must be a lot of users complaining about this' -- So what percentage have called AppleCare? 0.55% Just one half of one percent."

2) return rates... AT&T has a 'buyer's remorse' clause, you can return a phone no questions asked. Apple has the same thing. So what are our return rates? Well we're going to compare it to the iPhone 3GS...In the early days of the iPhone 3GS return rates were 6%... below the average, we were happy with that... so for the iPhone 4? You think half the people must be returning their phones with what you read online... well it's 1.7% -- less than a third of the 3GS returns."

3) Even with the “death grip” ...the iPhone 4 drops less than one additional call per 100 than the 3GS. Less than one."

Steve is very upfront and straight to the point. I am kind of pleased to see he actually call some of the media stories "bull."

Steve is a businessman. He can be mean

he can do that since bloomberg will never give up their source who wants to stay secret

Watching the Press Conference thread....

...with my nephew, who had a 3GS but now owns a Droid which he loves...and is quite cool. While following the live feed and the units they tested, he pulled out his Droid and gripped it in Death Grip fashion. Guess what? Down to one bar from five in under a minute.

Can't believe how full of themselves they sound. They're really blind to the problem. All phones do not have the problem.

Wrong, all phones DO have this problem actually. I used to cell cell phones and I have friends who still cell cell phones and customers always came in with blackberries, or nokias, or sony ericsons (iPhone wasn't out yet when I sold phones) complaining that if they touched the antenna the signal dropped.

Everyone just loves to hate apple, nothing more.

10:41AM Q: I can't get my Bold to drop right now, maybe you can show me how to do it?
Steve: You may not see it in certain areas.

Love it :D

When Steve showed the slides of the other smartphones, he did indicate that they drop bars on areas with a weak signal. Maybe that is the point, my friend who previously had a 3GS, bought a 4, only in certain areas had the bars go down but never had a dropped call. He indicated that he gets better reception and less echo with the 4G than he ever had on the 3GS. He did get a 3rd-party case and now the bars don't go away but everything else is the same. He hasn't upgraded to the new iOS 4.1 yet though. He is not going to return his iPhone 4.

The Internet has always blown things off proportion this goes to almost everything not just the iPhone 4. Of course you are going to have more people complain than people not complain.

Apple's press conference offered some great responses to Antennagate but unfortunately, if they had just officially acknowledged that they were going to investigate this 22 days ago they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.

Leaving angry consumers in a 3 week vacuum of silence is not a good idea

A pretty interesting press conference. And so very typically Apple--and that's both good and bad. Over the long term, It will be interesting to see whether this placates the people who have problems with their phones.

Also, people really need to stop tying their own sense of self to a corporation. If you find yourself getting all prickly because someone says something negative about Apple, then you need to take a deep breath and reevaluate your self esteem. Apple really doesn't care about you.

And if you have problems with the iPhone, the very best suggestion has been offered by Apple itself--return the phone. Not because you are a whiner or don't "deserve" it, but because making your choice known with your wallet is the only thing any corporation--including Apple--cares about.

Apple is just a big company.

You mad Im an iPhone user switching to Android??? You mad I can think logically and see the strengths and weakness in each and make up my own mind?

If you're still not happy, you can return your undamaged iPhone 4 within 30 days for a full refund, no restocking fee.

30 days after today, or is he just citing the 30-day return policy from purchase date?

Why is that?

Its just as unstable as Vista was when it first came out, if you look at it technically, not to much changed. The UI is better and it runs better on lesser hardware but I really dont see any other difference from Vista.
