Can't believe how full of themselves they sound. They're really blind to the problem. All phones do not have the problem. This has already been characterized as a lie.

But regrettably, I don't think Apple really has any better options. I just thought they would have admitted fault rather than mislead.

This was my first iPhone purchase. And it's a really amazing gadget. And while I can hold it such to make it drop bars (sometimes), I haven't had a dropped call or anything yet. I imagine if that consistently (or even occasionally) happened I'd be ticked about it and would seriously consider returning the phone and asking for a replacement or a refund. I would not act as if Steve Jobs personally ransacked my wallet and took my hard-earned money. I chose to buy the phone. If you want to swap commentary on how you're disappointed with how the new iPhone turned out, that's one thing, but the garment-rending melodrama from the people in here is mind-blowing. It's a wonder the forum server doesn't crash as it's full with peoples' sense of entitlement, bile, and bitterness. Go outside and hang out in the sunshine for a while or something. Sheesh.

plus one

But why isn't anyone asking about the replacement units that seem to have a slightly different metal band and no reception/death grip issues whatsoever?

Jobs shouldn't be concern for google, because there will be many users flocking to the Android platform after reading this press conference.

11:03AM Q: Would you have done anything differently knowing what you know now?
Steve: Well, of course the Consumer Reports stuff was bad, and of course we would have liked to get on this sooner. We just got this data. We just learned what was going on. We're an engineering company. We think like engineers.

Well stevie, you certainly didnt act like an engineering company when you made a new phone without fully testing it before selling it. Everything that comes out of his mouth is lies and doublespeak.

Neither does the iPhone 4. You just have to press hard on a certain spot. That's not touching to me. That's deliberating trying to find a problem.

Wrong. I do not need to grapple my phone like a primate to drop a call. A steely, vise-like iron grip of death is not necessary. A pinkie finger just barely grazing the area will cause data loss.

The real question I want to hear is

"are there going to be any internal modifications for iPhones shipping after 30 SEP"

What is the real reason for stopping free bumpers at that time?

Really, he even mentioned 'Revision B' situations. I mean if the phone hasn't changed, why wouldn't they all need cases?

It's funny how everyone on here was moaning about the antennae of the phone a few weeks ago, and now Steve has said there basically isn't an issue and now everyone on here is saying that their iP4 is fine as a call never drops. Such BS.

I own one and have been saying along that people are making a bigger deal out of this then it is.

Do you mean whiner or winner? Big difference!

As in those who wine and complain. Most winers in fact complain about false data or selective data just to be able to complain more. Some even get elected to public office this way.

Steve fixed the PR issue here. All phones have this problem. Apple is successful. The vast majority of their customers love the phone. If you really think it is a problem, here are free cases. The rest of you can **** off and pay the attorney fees when you loose the class action law suit.

this may have been mentioned, as I have not read all the posts, but:

Steve did say they will revisit in Sept, even making a joke about Eminem perhaps creating a band-aid everyone will want by then. What if what is happening is Rev A? Just like the Macs, the iPhone 4 gets a "silent update" by September?

After all, what they said is they want to make great products, and the iphone 4 is great, but they told you where to put your finger to kill a call. i.e. no problems with the current phone, but they will help you out with a case, because they care about you. Meanwhile, they work on improving the phone.

I say we all solve the problem like this and make it our visual statement of "don't buy this defective piece of crap".
Apple simply can't fix it. You'll just have to live with it if you like the phone enough. Otherwise try an Android phone. They're now comparable. iPhone is not the only choice out there like it has been for the last 3 years.

Not everyone. I've said was fine from the beginning.

Steve said:
11:06AM Steve: But not everyone is seeing this -- a small number encounter it. For those customers we'll get them a case, and if that doesn't work, we'll get them a full refund. And we'll continue to work on antennas that don't have this problem. But I think we're where the rest of industry is right now.

HOLY. CRAP.

-.36 now.

I think its fair to say this conference didn't solve the heart of the issue. A major design flaw by a relatively brilliant company.

A 10db flaw that, if Apple and AT&T had been honest from the start, wouldnt be a suprise given that Apple has basically been covering up for AT&T for years with their innacurate signal formula.

Not MAJOR. Hell, not even significant. It CAN be solved by doing what most people do anyway, and that is use a case. This issue was brought up what... day 2? Still cant find an iP4 to buy anywhere near me.

I dont know what people expected them to "solve." The press hype? A case fixes the issue... everyone gets a free case ($90million at retail). Why isnt that enough?

Because you shouldn't believe everthing you read on the internet.

Steve is very upfront and straight to the point. I am kind of pleased to see he actually call some of the media stories "bull."

Steve is a businessman. He can be mean

No case

I'm not getting a case. I have never liked them or used them even if it is free. I have better cell service/signal with this iPhone then any other an a lot o people who rip on the iPhone dot even have an iPhone. My friend actually has this problem with his htc touch but hey that's not news right. Also if you want a case these two cases seem really cool. Oh no I just droped one bar. Panic time. Haha
