I'm confused about this whole September 30th thing...does that mean they'll have this fixed by then?

Didn't he say Sept 30th was the deadline for people getting refunds who already bought a case? Meaning those who buy the phone new after the 30th, or those who have yet to buy a case, would still get a free one? ...that was my take.

so if you had a car that didn't do the main a car does. It stalled all the time. Be it looked beautiful and they called it ground breaking. That would be acceptable to you?

In 1905, all cars stalled from time to time. So you might as well look good in your stalled car.

All small cell phones have attenuation and dropped call problems. It's physics and trade-offs.

Get a PhD and patent an new magic antenna if you think you can do better, given the contraints.

Tip

I don't want to wait for Apple's next evaluation, and fixed the breaker spot myself, by applying an ultra thin layer of transparent coating. No more signal drops :D

we'll check on the facts after this press conference. It's no surprise that everyone is waiting on how apple will handle this. It's up to the people now to see if they're satisfy with the free bumper. For me, I already returned my iPhone 4.

So you expect a massive wave of iPhone 4 returns starting now? Enjoy that.

Statistics can be made up or spun in your favor.

then instead of saying, "statistics aren't facts," you meant to say, "not all statistics are facts."

are you then suggesting apple is lying about these statistics?

if so, what percentage should they have stated, and what are you basing that on?

One of the moderators doesn't like me. I asked a troll if he was losing calls on his iphone and if so, more often than with previous phones. But the post was deleted.

Apparently I was disrupting the very useful conversation going on here.

If my post is actually still here, I apologize but I can't find it when I search.

Nothing to see here.

This all just proves what most people know: Steve Jobs is a brilliant but arrogant man.

His tenure at Apple will be studied at business schools for many, many years to come. Love him or hate him, he runs a multi-billion dollar business whose number one reason to exist is to make money and give return to investors. No different than BP, Disney, Whole Foods, etc.

Love him or hate him (or both), but the guy has done his job. If Apple consumer satisfaction really takes a nosedive, so will the stock.

To be fair, my Bb 8100 drops one to two bars when I hold it in my left hand. I had never noticed that before.

Also, a quick, friendly lesson on double standards: If you complain about how Apple sucks for sacrificing function for form, you cannot in turn complain about how you don't want an "ugly" bumper case on your phone.

Lies Lies Lies!

for once I hope Apple would have put their hands up and admit the mistake

to blame it on smartphones in general, human nature and people in general is PATHETIC!

Man up Apple!

But their statistic is that .55% of the people purchasing iPhone 4s have reported an antenna or reception problem to applecare.

1.7% of AT&T users purchasing iPhone 4s have returned them. Versus 6% for the same time period on the 3GS.

This is actual population data, not inferred statistics. How are they misrepresenting the data?

What about the percentage of people who exchanged their iPhone? How many people were holding off on returning the phone, hoping Apple would announce a recall or some other fix during today's press conference.

In light of this conference, I'd love to see the return rates after the end of next week.

Overall pretty disappointing...

the main message I got from this: "There is no antennagate". Right...

This really didn't add up for me:

"we think it's affecting a small batch, but it has to do with inherent problems in smartphones"

So if it's a problem with all smartphones, how can it only be affecting a "small batch" of IP4s?

Steve and AAPL did a GREAT job today...

The world is now full of trolls and he addressed them in a Professional manner today in addition to fixing the problem for the .55% that have one...a nice nod to Google too and the hater trolls that attack them...

I also think Antennaegate has brought the core, long term Macrumors contributors closer together. We have been weathering this storm of trolls here and it has made our skin thicker. True, the ignore user feature cant come soon enough, but we now are much better at recognizing a troll vs a legitimate user with a problem.

..and finally AAPL is up $2 today! Clearly that shows the Market knows that AAPL has done right to their customers.

Thanks Steve for being EXTREMELY honest today, and thank you to the hard working AAPL engineers who have been working so hard to satisfy the small percentage of users with a problem.

Anyone???

If the iPhone got most of its sales because people bought a contract from AT&T and got an iPhone whether they want it or not, that would matter.

The fact that most windows sales simply happen because people buy computers and with only one exception you have to buy windows with it, isn't really a selling point.

Any other stupid comments?

I never suggested Apple is lying. I merely stated the difference between statistics and facts.

Sept 30th

Well, I just called AppleCare (and I did drop the call, thankfully she took my number down incase we got disconnected.......she must of knew I had the iPhone4.....lol) and they don't have any info on a refund or free cases. Also no info on Sept 30th
So I will update the OS if I still see an issue I will req a replacement. and a replacement after 9/30 (that is, if they don't change then entire phone by then......4Gba..........ba=better antenna)

I'm glad he came out with the facts. There will still be people who bitch about signal attenuation on the iPhone 4, despite the data he presented. The hype behind negative PR for Apple is always ridiculous and overblown.
