Facts 2

I loved it so much I had to say it again...

"Facts don't lie. Only 0.55% of users call AppleCare with problems. Only 1.7% return rate, versus 6% for 3GS. Dropped calls on par with 3GS. Attenuation happens on other phones. Despite all of this, Apple still gives out free cases."

Steve is very upfront and straight to the point. I am kind of pleased to see he actually call some of the media stories "bull."

Steve is a businessman. He can be mean

+1

He definitely kicked ass and took care of business (pun intended?)

God the way Apple is handling this is just god damn childish. I own a Motorola Droid, I live in a relatively low signal area (mountains), I do not drop signal no matter how much I attempt to smother the phone.

There answer? So what.. other phones do it sometimes do it! "Wouldn't it be great" if Apple held themselves to a higher standard then some crappy WinMo (or was it a blackberry) phone and a dead and budget year old phone like the Eris?

Also gotta love how their solution is "Put a case on it" I've never put a case on my iPhone 3G, Droid, Touch.. anything because it's ridiculous. Especially in an Apple product where a lot of the appeal is design. Yeah, can't wait to put a neon orange bumper just so you don't drop calls.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a perfectly good trolling opportunity

You must realize that with millions of people owning these phones, there is a wide variation in experience and different people may post different opinions in different situations. Also, that there are network variations that may affect people's perceptions.

And there have been a lot of trolls who registered in the past 30 days attacking anyone who dared to stand up and say they did not have a problem. Steves statements have likely emboldened some of these posters and provided them some actual data to know they are not alone, and in fact represent the overwhelming majority of iPhone 4 users.

i suggest never buying a car then. they all have issues and unless it's a safety issue the best you get is a technical bulletin to get something fixed next time you get your oil changed

so if you had a car that didn't do the main a car does. It stalled all the time. Be it looked beautiful and they called it ground breaking. That would be acceptable to you?

This could be the only recall in history where a guy will return his phone, storm out of the store in anger and the guy behind him in line will say to the sales clerk "Hey, can I buy that?"

Cases for now...

So, what's happening. By September they figure out a fix to the problem (probably some type of plastic insulator right at that point between the antennas or something) and start selling those w/o bumpers while we're stuck with slightly "defective" units that require a case? Lame... gotta come up with some excuse for an exchange after September time frame, hopefully MacRumors or other news does an update on the story at that time to see if the design has changed at all.

Its just as unstable as Vista was when it first came out, if you look at it technically, not to much changed. The UI is better and it runs better on lesser hardware but I really dont see any other difference from Vista.

Amen to that. Not much difference, honestly.

They also know who shot JFK.

Somehow I doubt that. You don't have to put on a tin foil hat to note the incredible coincidence here. They aren't subsidizing 3rd party bumpers or cases.

Apple bumpers=pre-made disaster relief

edit to add: shouldn't they slash the prices on these defective phones?

Let's see that return rate in another month or two. And again those numbers are not verifiable. Jobs can say whatever he wants there. I can guarantee no one in the company is gonna tell him otherwise.

Does the 30-day return apply to international customers...specificially the UK because we usually only have 14-days here?

This board and thread has gone to hell. People registering user names to complain about a phone they dont even own? Who has that time?

yeah seeing a lot of July 2010 Newbies. the Invasion of the Fandroids. It's like if d-day was fought by winners at the special olympics

No, foolish little person, the point is that plenty of products have trouble, and now you have two ways to deal with it. The admission alone is a whole lot better than most companies would give. Notice how the other smartphone makers are lining up to admit their own issues? No? If yours doesn't work, then take it back, and try again if you want. Or get a case. Or just shut the h#ll up and deal with it. What exactly do you want that would be an improvement over this? A recall? How would that help?

I already returned my phone so this doesn't apply to me, but why do you have to belittle someone that is upset?

I guess my understanding of a forum is incorrect if someone is not allowed to come here and gripe about an issue they have, even if you think they are being petty.

If you're allowed to talk down to someone like this, then they should be able to say whatever they want about a company... You act like insulting a company is an insult to you or your family and you can reply with immature name-calling. I don't get it....

"Only 0.55% of iPhone 4 customers have called AppleCare about the antenna issue. Historically not a large number for us. Return rates through AT&T for iPhone 4 are at 1.7%, far below the gold standard iPhone 3GS return rate of 6%."

Every single one of you complaining about how this is horrible design and a huge problem need to **** so we can get back to news that matters about Apple rather than BS that got web hits for a few lying companies.
