So I guess if you walk into an Apple store right now with an iPhone 4, they'll just give you a bumper if they have any stock.

Facts don't lie. Only 0.55% of users call AppleCare with problems. Only 1.7% return rate, versus 6% for 3GS. Dropped calls on par with 3GS. Attenuation happens on other phones.

we'll check on the facts after this press conference. It's no surprise that everyone is waiting on how apple will handle this. It's up to the people now to see if they're satisfy with the free bumper. For me, I already returned my iPhone 4.

Maximum bars 1, Minimum bars 5?
Hmm... :(

Apple's press conference offered some great responses to Antennagate but unfortunately, if they had just officially acknowledged that they were going to investigate this 22 days ago they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.

Leaving angry consumers in a 3 week vacuum of silence is not a good idea

If <company=BP> had just announced they would <solution to problem=plug the leak> in <time period=3 months>, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.

Its just as unstable as Vista was when it first came out, if you look at it technically, not to much changed. The UI is better and it runs better on lesser hardware but I really dont see any other difference from Vista.

You could try using the Windows for Dummies book.

Win! Win! Win!

I have an iPhone 4, I could see the bars go down... But, only when I really tried to make it happen. I never experienced a problem with an actual call.

But, because a few people who complained, and A lot more people who are actually ignorant of the 'problem' because they do not even own an iPhone..
.. I get a free case!

Wow! Thank you haters! Keep doin' what you do! GO IGNORANCE!!!

proud to be an American?

what hit me the most during the conference is how artfully Steve jobs pointed out that the american news media were actually harder on American companies. His exact words were do you prefer us to be a Korean company? And it is true....everyone wants to tear down who is on top....the media does not care that Google and Apple are American companies and if you think about it, how many products designed in America can you truly be proud of and say this is the best one on earth. Yea I am an Apple fan and proud to be one.

I loved it so much I had to say it again...

"BlahblahblahFILLERblahblahblah..."

Do not double post.

This board and thread has gone to hell. People registering user names to complain about a phone they dont even own? Who has that time?

Someone with sense really does post here. Finally. This thread needs a refresher... Or as Pearl Jam put it, some Fixer.

me

"Only 0.55% of iPhone 4 customers have called AppleCare about the antenna issue. Historically not a large number for us. Return rates through AT&T for iPhone 4 are at 1.7%, far below the gold standard iPhone 3GS return rate of 6%."

Every single one of you complaining about how this is horrible design and a huge problem need to **** so we can get back to news that matters about Apple rather than BS that got web hits for a few lying companies.

I actually called applecare, but only 1 of fours calls made it through. the other three were dropped while in Queue

Wrong, all phones DO have this problem actually. I used to cell cell phones and I have friends who still cell cell phones and customers always came in with blackberries, or nokias, or sony ericsons (iPhone wasn't out yet when I sold phones) complaining that if they touched the antenna the signal dropped.

Everyone just loves to hate apple, nothing more.
In my two years of having a Sidekick LX, only ever had one dropped call. The iPhone dropped more calls for me in one week than two years with the Sidekick.

Whatever. I guess Apple's always right. I mean, look at their numbers...

There are various reason why people whine and complain. Most of this reason is to feel important and to be taken seriously.

See any book by Dale Carnegie.

... Also whiners and complainers do not make a whole not of friends nor allies either.

Moving on. I believe Steve did pretty good. It's a free market out there. No one is holding a gun to your head and say you must buy and use Apple products. There are other products out there if you don't like Apple's.

Go return your iphone4 if you hate it so much. AT&T should have no problems with the refund as well, as they work directly with Apple on it. (They get to return their returned stock back to Apple too).

And those who thinks a company can troubleshoot, and design, test, and come up with a end-all fix have never developed hardware, software, or work in support ever. For a problem like this, it may take several attempts to fully understand and fix the problem.

The symptoms/issue have been identified, but the true root cause have yet to be truly understood. There are theories by people who believe they are important/experts that it is a hardware design issues, but in truth, to confirm and verify this, then come up with a solution will take a while.

Until then, they identified a bumper case should alleviate the issue, and decided to give away 1 for free.

Apple engineering is still working at understanding what the real root cause is, so they can experiment with various fixes to find the best solution.

If you've already think you know what the problem is better than Apple's team of engineers, and you think you know how to fix it, then you really should not be wasting your life here whining. Instead you should be working as senior or lead engineer some place earning 6-digit+ salary.

Statistics can be made up or spun in your favor.

But their statistic is that .55% of the people purchasing iPhone 4s have reported an antenna or reception problem to applecare.

1.7% of AT&T users purchasing iPhone 4s have returned them. Versus 6% for the same time period on the 3GS.

This is actual population data, not inferred statistics. How are they misrepresenting the data?

God the way Apple is handling this is just god damn childish. I own a Motorola Droid, I live in a relatively low signal area (mountains), I do not drop signal no matter how much I attempt to smother the phone.

There answer? So what.. other phones do it sometimes do it! "Wouldn't it be great" if Apple held themselves to a higher sta...

Cut

Wouldn't it be great if people who don't even own the product would shut up about a non-issue so we can get back to actual Apple news?

going back

Well, I guess I'll just return mine next week. It really doesn't work well enough, even with a bumper. I haven't tried the apple bumper yet, but a third party one doesn't help, and it still drops calls. I'll wait it out till v1.1 comes out (which it will or already has according to some reports) and then rebuy. Glad I kept the 3gs around for this.

More than .55% would have called if they would have been able to get reception with their phones.
