Then how come I don’t know ANYONE who’s materially affected? not one?
I'm 53 years old. I've never seen nor spoken to a Mongolian. Do Mongolian's not exist then?
That's your logic.
Anecdotal experience is irrelevant.

Regal Cinemas says it will reopen its movie theaters in August after an extended closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company announced Monday it is reopening on Friday, Aug. 21. Its movie theaters will look and feel different with new health measures intended to prevent spread of the coronavirus.
New York (CNN Business)With summer blockbusters pushing back their release dates because of coronavirus, AMC Theatres is delaying its opening once again.
The world's biggest movie-theater chain is postponing the reopening of its US theaters to "mid-to-late August," the company said Thursday. AMC (AMC) was set to have a phased reopening on July 15 with the hopes of being fully operational by July 24. That date was then pushed back to July 30 late last month.
Feels like you're just trolling then. People here attempt to be honest. You apparently feel that honesty is not your forté.
yeah I have other friends who have had it but just experienced it like a flu.Up until last week, I knew no one that had this virus. My wife's good college friend's mom got it from her job and now the whole family is under quarantine.

You really don't.Now I understand.
Oh wow. Now I understand. If I was 53 I definitely wouldn’t be going to bars or vacationing.
I think age may have a lot to do with how we live our social lives during this time

Jeez dude. Really? lol. If top party schools are popping out people with the ability to process logic similar to yourself .... we're in a deep deep **** puddle. Not even to mention the moral implications of someone who can't think outside of their little world to think about others just a tiny little bit.... ignoring all evidence...
Sigh. And I'm 34. Makes me embarrassed to be this young.
People need to figure out what’s best for them. What I have a problem with is people who tell others what to do and what not to do. And if you think the Ivy leaguers are any better, you’ll be surprised. One of my Ivy friends has been posting literal selfies on ig of him eating at restaurants and hanging out with friends. You’re young enough to know you only post your best on ig and yet there he is. I’ve said before, people need to figure out what is best for them, but if I say I’m going to the bar nobody has the right to tell me not to go. It’s open, and I’m following the rules. People can call it “selfish” all day but guess what? I quarantined when they closed things months ago. There is no 2nd quarantine now where I’m at and probably won’t be if I had to guess. So I say it’s selfish for those who say to stay inside and do nothing Bc you know it’s going to be packed at the bar with or without me there anyway!!!

What it all keeps on repeatedly (and conveniently, if not even purposefully) overlooking is that dealing with something like a pandemic depends on what others and basically everyone does.People need to figure out what’s best for them. To be honest, after being in higher ed(as both academic staff and faculty) outstanding students can come out of "bad" schools and really crummy students can come out of historically top tier schools. A lot of it is about the motivation of the individual student, and students who want to excel in their field will do so.
Of course, the right environment can help foster a student's interest in their field. Often, larger schools(whether Ivy League, big state university, or big private school) can have deep resources and facilities to help students excel. At the same time, at a smaller school, it can be easier to develop a close relationship with faculty. You can find outstanding faculty everywhere who are the top in their field, who are outstanding teachers or mentors, or combinations of both.
I am saying this as someone who has been at smaller private schools where I developed relationships with faculty I still stay in touch with, 10 years as of August 1st at a big state R1, and about to close out my last week there to move on to faculty at a community college.
That's just a long way of saying that where you go doesn't really matter if it's the right match for you as a student. Finding the right match really is key, and aside from your personal motivation that does prevail above everything else.
So let me get this straight, regarding your thoughts on people and the way they handle the virus.I agree. This notion that Ivy League people listen to opera, read hard books, own Mensa, don’t party bc it’s immature, use big words, and stay inside bc they’re too smart to party during this time, is something that even Ivy leaguers would most certainly distance themselves from and frankly be embarrassed by. I can say from what I’ve seen the school you went to DOES NOT mean anything in terms of how you behave during this time. I think I’m more careful than some of these Ivy League guys. Like why would he post literal SELFIES on ig with his buddies at restaurants and stores? To me it’s just to show that he’s not sitting inside doing nothing. I’m living my life but I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone by posting on ig like that. Oh and to top it off, HE WASNT WEARING A MASK!
The point that some of us are trying to make is that it's NOT just about what's best for you as an individual but also about what's best for society. I think the operative saying here is, "just because you can doesn't mean you should."People need to figure out what’s best for them.
I’m living my life but I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone by posting on ig like that.
War's are won, and lost, on personal sacrifice.
Make no mistake, this is a war and we're all combatants. Are you going to help fight, or you going to desert your post because it's "too hard"?
Food for thought that I'm sure has already been hashed out elsewhere:
SARS(AKA SARS-CoV-1) was of course another Corona virus that swept several areas 2003-2004, although its infection rate was miniscule compared to SARS-CoV-2. There are still some other striking similarities between the two, though.
SARS capped below 10K confirmed cases, and hasn't been seen since 2004. I'm wondering, though-why could SARS be contained and not the current virus? I'm guessing rate of transmission and also the relatively high fatality rate(over 9% IIRC) of SARS had something to do with it, but I'm just guessing and kind of wondering out loud.

Children die from it too. And even if they don't they can spread it to others who may/will get sick.
so despite everything being "normal" you guys just hit daily fatality records in 18 states. And even if it doesn't kill you, it can make you bedridden for weeks/months. That in itself will have a significant economic/hospital resource impact.
Give your doctors and nurses a freaking break and keep this under control.

From what I read yesterday, this new version is a lot more virulent and spreads far more easily.
Also, it managed to get a foot-hold in the USA due to inadequate response and probably 10-25% of the USA population being deliberately difficult about measures put in place to help control it (exhibit a above).
Whatever medical technology the USA has, unfortunately it appears that your population is ill-equipped to deal with a pandemic as large swathes of your population (not most, but unfortunately enough to be dangerous and prevent flattening the curve) appear to do whatever they can to ensure it spreads.
I'm sure someone could announce that jumping off a bridge spreads/increases your chance of catching COVID19 and a number of them would do it.
Whilst other countries are openly discussing/debating eradication vs. suppression of this (we've basically done so in 5 out of 7 states here), the USA appears totally unable to get it under control right now. And until you do, you're going to be barred from travel to most of the world.

If what you're reading online and reporting here is saying that, then ok. But none of it is reflective of my experience, and many other Americans I know...
And you've experienced covid19?
Will be interesting to hear your thoughts when you do.
I know a few people who had SARS back when that was spreading. One of them (out of the two I know) says he never fully recovered from it. He didn't die (hospitalised for a month though), but his body has never been the same again.
Few friends of mine that caught it just complained of chest pains or similar, so it doesn't appear at first to be Covid-related, but better test availability will be crucial.yeah I have other friends who have had it but just experienced it like a flu.
