I am really impressed with how they integrated the touch pad into iPadOS. The circle that changes shape as you move over items is brilliant and innovative, but simple. It's a bit expensive, but man, I want it, lol.

Ergo = therefore.
In this sentence from Craig it doesn’t match. I really wish Apple employees, especially executives would Stop shortening words in an effort to sound hip/cool when their beginning to sound like idiots. Stop ruining language like a pre-teen. There is no use for this.
What? He clearly said “ergonomics,” not “ergo,” but either way, this post screams of wanting to be mad about something, anything.

This is great. Most people now don’t need to buy a Mac.

Right, because nothing screams ease of use like attaching a keyboard to a screen, versus just opening up a laptop.

This.

If you are actually using your iPad Pro to earn money, then the $300 is going to be paid for in a few billable hours. Why would you not want this purpose-built tool with superior engineering if you spend your whole working life using it?

Most people freelancing with their iPad Pros are Graphics Artists, not typesetters, or any other job that is keyboard heavy.

Tablets have replaced virtually every point of sale system

Ever been to Costco, any major Grocery Chain in the US, Auto Dealerships, Casinos, stadiums, theaters, etc., etc? Tablets have replaced small businesses who leverage Square Inc., and it's business suite of tools.

Where and what device in Costco and grocery stores cause I've never seen one unless you're categorizing point of sale systems as tablets?

Sorry I quoted this article ... it said 'Ergo' sorry you didn't catch that. 'screams' is not ... just making a statement ... ergo, I can deduce yet readers shouldn't. here is another one that a former executive, father of iOS used as well 'blow-away'. Sorry I'd rather Apple promote intellegence vs lame catch phrases just to try to be cool. If you haven't noticed this trend happening at Apple oh well.

If the article misquoted Craig, that’s on The Verge, not Apple. You can watch the video and listen, with your own two ears, to Craig saying “ergonomics.”

Who hurt you?

I guess we know how the WWDC “Keynote” will be. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple makes this the new announcement format going forward. It really works.

Does it? Seems a lot less exciting than unedited live demos with an audience.

Wish Craig would demo everything. Less double speak and more enthusiasm. Interesting trackpad capabilities.

I like the *Surface Studio-like* floating hinge on the magic keyboard.

The RAM and GPU upgrades are a good thing (8gb of RAM would be nice).

Wish that Apple would fix the touch irresponsiveness already. I would be glad to use an iPad Pro when they do. It won't replace a Mac for me, but having an iPad around for document markup for work, art, movie watching and comic reading would be great.

While a few people seem to imply this is a Surface killer, honestly I see this doing nothing but cannibalizing their own products. The lower-end Surface and Surface Go products are pretty stellar and at a good price point, and why would anyone buy a $300 keyboard to go along with a $799 iPad when they could get a Macbook Air? Would it be for touch alone? That seems very odd. Most people have a "computer" and "a portable device" or BOTH, but it's kind of excessive to expect all devices to be all things.

I can't help but feel that Apple wants to go "all in" on touch and is doing this kind of transition on purpose. but they're doing it in an inelegant fashion. Microsoft just happens to design hardware that supports what W10 can do, while Apple can own the ecosystem they're in but doing it in a way that feels like a total cash grab. You want a keyboard for your iPad? Sure, fork over $350 bucks. And people thought the $100 keyboard for the surface was bad...

I'm just saying that Surface can completely die out and it wouldn't really matter. Dell and others are already mimicing the design and that's just great. We have PCs with touch that do very similar to what iPad is attempting to do, and when they have full ARM availability, watch out.

Also floating screen is not at all better than an adjustable screen viewing angle. One viewing angle. One. Guys, really?

It is meant to be able to adjust to any angle. This is from the Apple page for the new keyboard:

In other news Apple announces that its computers now can do computing, bringing it on par with devices released 30 years ago.

But in all seriousness it's really comical to see all this stuff that's been around for decades and seeing Apple trying to make it look fresh. Look we took our dumbed down OS and made it a bit smarter, after years of saying it was superior because it was dumbed, er I mean scaled down.

That keyboard looks really bad functionally as well, why don't they just get it over with and copy MS and put a kickstand on the ipad? What's the complaint, that it would make the ipad thicker? Well that keyboard and the part that attaches to the ipad both look pretty darn thick to me. I wonder if they will honor the warranty for when it wobbles off of someones lap, bed or table edge? Best of all it's only 249/299, good stuff. Hey I'm on board, that's why I own a bunch of Apple stock.

A kickstand is awkward.

And good luck using a Surface with kickstand on a lap. Or, like, on an train/airplane seat tray.

I think I will be too tempted to buy. This set up, to me, is honestly the perfect computer. I have been really impressed with the steps that Apple has taken in the last few years with iPad and iPadOS. I believe this is the type of set up we will see predominantly in the future. Thin clients that dock at the desk - this is exactly how Jobs' envisioned it also.

expensive but I can't help but know I will be ordering the sec it's available.

You know I have heard this before but have a difficult time understanding it. My surface pro works just fine in my lap or on an airplane seat tray. It's not quite as stable as a laptop in the lap, but I don't feel like it's particularly unstable, and on an airplane tray it fits just fine. What I find awkward is not being able to prop up my ipad on the kitchen table, or my work desk. Not being able to put my ipad on my lap at all, and having to contort myself in bed to be able to prop it up. That's why I'm puzzled at the SP's kickstand being called "awkward", I'd think that's the perfect term to use for an ipad. With that said certainly there are (very subpar) solutions with external cases. This latest keyboard looks awful and certainly wins the "awkward" award, let's see you use that on your lap or on an airplane tray.

Just my personal opinion but the SP's kickstand remains FAR FAR superior to anything Apple has come up with, including their latest. I have a suspicion that Apple considered this, but realized they couldn't gouge the consumer for another $300 unless they came up with a separate accessory.

Shouldn't the keyboard have a Touch Bar? Apple could use that with the iPad Pro, and as an external keyboard for a Macbook or any Mac when attached to a monitor, even with an AppleTV!

"You" may be better off, but I don't see how you can speak for everyone else?

If a laptop and cheaper iPad is a better value proposition for you and your work situation, by all means use your alternative option.

Just don't speak for "me".
(Hand clap) So brave.

Look, this magic keyboard is awesome. No doubt. I'm just so frustrated by Apple.

The keyboard starts at $300. The iPad Pro starts at $800. That's $1,100 before tax for a compromised iPadOS laptop experience.

You are better off buying a laptop and a cheaper iPad.

Understanding The Conceptual Definitons of Cost, Price, Worth, and Value

Undoubtedly, the overall keyboard doesn't look very good and the base is too low for typing which you can't adjust the height for ergonomic.

It is an overpriced smart keyboard for such limited functionality and could have included a 7000mAh battery to charge the device with the ability to switching on or off mechanism.

Agreed. It makes sense that Apple iPad Pro smart keyboard design won't look different from the MBP for the sake of design uniformity rather than the recently released model which is a huge step backward in aesthetic and ergonomic.
