Whelp, there we go, my 11” iPad Pro 2018 is obsolete already, albeit still powerful and 4GB ram is nothing to shy away from.

With that being said, adding trackpad on an iPad Pro makes sense since on iPad selecting words with even Apple Pencil is cumbersome and inaccurate from time to time. With extra cramped arrow keys, the control is more annoying than ever.

I think the video was quite poorly done compared to the usage videos Apple usually does. Seems like they rushed this. Or maybe they had to let many people go home and don't have the resources for a more professionally shot video.

I think the video was just fine. Straight, to the point, not filled with fluff.

WOW! That's truly innovation that I never saw coming! What a brilliant rethinking of cursor support! macOS is going to be amazing when it inherits more iOS-inspired designs!

Is the round cursor a good idea? I'd think that the whole point of using a trackpad is to increase precision, and a big circle doesn't seem to do that. I know the interface is designed to require less precision but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work with an arrow, there's no such thing as "too precise".

Did you watch and understand the video? The cursor is contextual, changing shape to whatever its purpose is at the very moment. So when you need a precision cursor, it will be that. That was pretty clear in the video.

Not sure why anyone would choose this frankenmachine over the new MBA.

The iPad's OS is a complete nightmare for anything more than basic content consumption. I bought a 2017 iPP for my kids to play with (my first iPad since the 4) and I can't believe how clunky and counter-intuitive it's become. The number of times I can't get the sound from a streaming app to stop even when I close every app is horrible. I hate hate hate the way when I try and close a full stream video it does that picture in picture thing. Every gesture is clunky and non-obvious.

In a world where the MBA exists, and people need a keyboard and trackpad, this *more expensive* product is a bad joke.

Fair opinion. But iPad OS is a completely different user experience. To compare this with a desltop/laptop is fine, but not something many of us will absorb.

Nice video, btw

Seems weird that you can’t, but I guess there is no perfect solution. Folding it over now with the keys on the back isnt ideal but I got used to it.

That could be cool but You would think that would of been in a demo by now.
idk maybe its more practical than visually appealing so they didn't demo it? just racking my brains here lol. hope its coming

You have to consider that iPad apps will always need to work for touch so any UI that requires the precision of an arrow cursor would be difficult to use when used with fingers. Where enhanced precision is beneficial, such as in selecting text, the cursor transforms into a text select cursor. The circle appears in button presses, manipulating apps, drag and dropping, etc. Those elements are designed for your finger so a circle will always fit it well. It's a brilliant solution.

no. there is usbc port on the hinge and the stand charges and connects via the smart connector. I really don't know where you got the idea that the iPad will wirelessly charge on the stand. a little logical thinking goes a long way

“USB-C pass through charging, keeping the USB-C port on iPad Pro free for accessories including external drives and displays.” and that’s according to Apple.

What did you think the USB C on the hinge would do exactly? Always best not to chastise people for lacking logical thinking unless you are certain what you’re talking about.

If anyone figures out how to program my mouse forward/back buttons to go forward/back in Safari or go back a menu in other apps, please let me know! I don't see forward/back as options in the Button Customization list in Settings, hopefully they're coming in a later release.

I hope so too. I had my mouse buttons programmed just how I liked it.

There is a real Showstopper: You need to click on the Touchpad. No option just to tap on the Touchpad like I have set on my Mac for years.

Great. For someone who has portable and light duty needs, to overseeing meetings and presentations, etc this is whatever.

To those of us that want a full featured Mac Mini you give us a drive increase. Not 8 cores/16 Threads AMD 4900H or 4900HS or 4800U you give a 256 GB SSD.

These iPads should be sold to business managers in the Fortune 1000, to plant managers connecting to back-end servers, etc.

The rest of the user base wants something that isn't an iMac/iMac Pro or Mac Pro, but something more than the Mac mini.

Don’t forget you can use the new keyboard with your existing third generation ipad pro

Even with a trackpad, the iPad is really relegated to a classroom tool and a kids toy. It might even suffice as a “computer” for a middle school or high school student, but barely for the latter. Without a true OS, it isn’t anything more than an app confined tool with a lot of storage and power but lacking true flexibility. Springboard is so overly antiquated that it is actually hampering the iPad more than the iPhone as a next generation device. Apple has yet to figure out that iterative improvements to a 13 year old paradigm have closed the doors on the innovative hallmark that was the Jobs-Ive era. And without Steve pushing for the next great thing, Craig is content to do nothing and collect a paycheck, and Tim doesn’t mind as the $$s roll in.

Is it just me, or does Craig look really tired in the video?

I think that period has passed already, and it's not tablets, but smartphones. In the emerging markets, majority of people have smartphones as their first (and even only) "computer." Many SMBs become digitalized thanks to the smartphone. Tablets might still have the potential, but it reaching a much smaller market.

You know honestly I do think Apple is on to something, I use my iPad a whole lot more than I do my MacBook.

How so? What do you define a computer as? So far this thing is all I need to carry with me when I need to go to a client, remote access company resources, and I don't need to carry anything bulky with me.

the 12.9 minimum specs w/ new keyboard is $1,350. Cash grab. I don't mind that. Personally I am a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro user and my iPhone is my mobile device. Like I said, the issue is more about the fact that iOS and iPad OS are seriously old and the iterative innovation is slow. The GUI is cumbersome and stale and not forward thinking. Great that it suits your need(s). Personally I see the iPad as great for 5-15 year old, couch consumption, and housewives (not to be sexist) and grandparents. This is not a real productivity tool IMHO. I use a Surface Pro 7 for work and it is great. Light AF and a complete Win10 dockable desktop solution. I truly don't mind the iOS and iPad OS divergence. But we need a 2020 GUI for them, and we're still working on improvements to a 2007 version.

A lot of people still can’t see past their own nose. "Productivity" is often limited to programming, excel, and CAD, as if no other type of profession exists.

The ipad doesn’t need to replace the PC. That’s what the desktop and laptop is for. This in turn frees up the ipad to excel in tasks that a conventional PC might be ill-suited for.

Love this new feature - finally the iPad can replace my laptop. iMac for desktop work, iPad for travel. Just a shame there's a delay for the keyboard, and that's its damn pricey. If I desperately need full PC computing I can remote desktop to my iMac

It seems more like, tablets will be used solely as laptops in the future, with unnecessary touchscreens. Which is sad, by the way.
