MKBHD did nothing to help with the information already presented. Every Apple youtuber i am sub'd to is acting the same way. "hey everyone im so glad to talk about this revolutionary Apple laptop". I'm honestly afraid for the information im getting from them. I really want someone honest and forthright. I want the Larry King of youtube to talk to Craig.
Did you know that a MacBook is a device you can carry around and still use, when there is no space for a 13 inch Wacom Tablet?
I think most of the people here are grasping at straws
Let me translate what Craig is trying to say...
"We realized that if we add a OLED bar, we can increase the price by $300"
A keyboard also has a lot of potential for developers.
Anybody knows whether the headphone jack on the 13 and 15 new MBPs is still also an optical audio line out (like on previous models)?
it's a lame duck. It isn't needed. It doesn't solve a problem and it actually introduces problems. For anyone who works intensively with their machine it adds nothing. Even as a gimmick to sell to the wealthy casual user, I think it is underwhelming.
What do you think the touch bar is, if it's not a touch screen on a laptop?Touch screens on laptops just don't work.
DJ's will never, ever, mix a live set on that little strip called Touchbar. A crossfader for example has to be ultra light, smooth and fast. There's very good hardware for that. No DJ will use multi touch on the touchbar. It's a demo gimmic if you ask me.
It's interface madness to devide (and hide) functionality over two separate screens. I just don't get it, sorry.
Wonder if it's too little too late.
I haven't seen this much negative feedback on a Mac portable since the original MacBook Air.
Well if Apple buys me a really awesome lunch and gives me a free sample I will say whatever they want me to say too.Really? All the tech sites love it. The public will slate anything, no matter what it is.
Touch screens on laptops just don't work. No hinge is stable enough to make using it an enjoyable experience, and you end up with a display covered in fingerprints.
What do you think the touch bar is, if it's not a touch screen on a laptop?
Finally, a reasonable human being. From what I saw of the Adobe demo, they do let them use it for shortcuts. I think the emoji thing was a stab at humor with the messaging app....
I think people are getting hung up on a minor option that was shown, which they don't care for, and not paying attention to the real potential. And once the shortcuts are there, and as a user you are used to where you or a dev put them I doubt you will need to look to use them.
Poor Craig. It feels like him and Phil are the last of the SJ bred senior execs who actually want to innovate and push the boundaries. But they're held back by Timmy's penny pinching ******** and Jony's idiotic quest for an invisibly thin Apple device.
The way Craig says in his first answer, that they've been working on this for years.. to me it sounds like "FFS, Timmy finally let us get this out."
Oh come off it, you know exactly what he means, which is using the main display as a touch screen on laptops just don't work. Of course you already know that as you quoted him completely out of context and conveniently missed out the part I've highlighted in bold.
Sure it has great potential and it enhance the user experience with fullscreen app.
When I work on my MBA I really need space and putting some toolbar buttons on the touch bar would be great. But I never look at my keyboard while typing so I'd have to change the way I work with my computer.
It is cool technology but not a game changer, at least not for everyone
In other words, you don't know.I don't see why it wouldn't be.
Hinge not stable: I agree.
Display covered with fingerprints: didn't hold off people for buying an ipad
There is something called convertibles. I might give it a try. Who knows: I might end up Alice in Wonderland.
