Well, I got America's army to install, but the mouse is the big problem: either it's jammed, or it is locked moving upwards, so it is almost impossible to navigate menus, let alone play. Still, the closest I got to actually playing a windows game on a Mac

Okay, when you start America's Army, you will see a full black screen (after a substantial loading time) you have to cmd-opt-shift-R out of it, and then you see a 800x600 screen, and the mouse in the top of that window. By cmd-tabbing out of the game to, let's say, finder, you can resize the window slightly, and then, the mouse will normally work.

The sound is still not perfect (it's like fast forwarding with iTunes-iPod but at normal speed (music, effects, and speech are constantly interrupted for short periods, comparable to the gaps of FF)

The mouse is a bit shakey, but I still managed 35/40 on my first try at the firing range

The bottom line: America's Army is playable. Woohoo:D

EDIT: The sound now works in safe mode, also the game is now running smoother after lowering te settings. I would say that it now works as good as a Windows version, apart from the disabilty to play full-screen, and the fact that the mouse is easily jammed if you do something outside you game box/bottle

C&C Generals thought my hardware was overheating.
That is the almighty error message in Generals. Not always due to overheating, mind.

Blahhhhh. My hopes and dreams of Counter-Strike to work have failed. The game installs fine, opens well...... It just won't let you connect to any servers..... says my server doesn't match the server i'm connecting. I'm assuming it has something to do with CrossOver......

Anyone have any success with this or know a possible solution? If not, it was nice seeing the ugly steam open and whatnot for the time being.

Also, one favor - please report these to the beta center? We'd really like
to get things triaged so the next beta rev can be cleaner.

FYI - this is not obvious how to do - your website is too cluttered.

I tried installing the only software I need that runs in Windows that a company I work with uses but it requires .NET framework and apparently that is hopeless.

First it says that you need IE 5 or higher installed for .NET and then after I
have successfully installed IE 6 in a win98 bottle, I then tried to install that software from CD and seemed to work at first, even though it complained about the bottle (can you installl only one peice of software in a bottle?). It went and started the NET Framework update from MS like it did on my old PowerbookG4 in Virtual PC. But then I got ...

----
.NET Framework Initialization Error

To run this application, you must first install one of the following
versions of the.NET Framework:

v1.1.4322

Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .Net Framework.
---

-----------

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 setup has ended prematurely. If this persists, please contact Product Support

-----------

Crossover attempts to reboot and

and you se it again try to install the .NET framework update

it all ends with

1603: Error installing Microsoft(R) .NET Framework.

-----------

I could care less about games. Just want to run one piece of business software and not have to buy a whole another operating system for a single piece of business software! I guess this is not the solution.
:(

IE 6 behavior in a Win98 bottle is still very flaky.

---------

I have been watching the optimistic promises of DarWine / Wine for years.
If you are going to charge $60 for this, you really need to find at least a million dollars of venture capital somewhere and get this thing out of alpha in to a true beta. I would pre-order if I could be sure it wasn't going take another 5 years to release. But without .NET framework support it wouldn't be any help.

Yes there are 2 work arounds. One you connect to the server from steam using the server button on the bottom left. Or you can go into counterstrike or whatever you are playing and go to console and type "connect IP ADDRESS" without the quotes. hope it works.

lol yeaaah. Day of Defeat crashes a lot, and CS crashes sometimes...... but it was good to play while it lasted! Hope they improve the program to prevent Steam from crashing :/

:p hahahha yea I don't know cs feels different under the mac something about the mouse movements is different from PC's. :(

ChrisG: Did you install C & C Generals from CD? My installation bombs at 38% :(

HL2 Tip: set the launch options to "-novid -dxlevel 70 -width 1280 -height 800"

Works great on a Macbook - had no time to try -dxlevel 80 or 81, but i know the default (i think 90) gives mad video corruption...

Have a quick question about the usability of CrossOver Mac...

I am switching, going to be buying a Mac very soon. I am still debating between the black MacBook and the MacBook Pro. I own a copy of of Office XP and want to be able to run that on my Mac. I could see myself buying Office for Mac just to have to run it Rosetta. I will probably buy a copy next year when the UB version is released. I want to use CrossOver until then and to make my Mac transition a bit easier.

Can anyone tell me what their experience is with OfficeXP with CrossOver? I need to be able to use almost all the functionallity of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Has anyone been able to run MatLab using CrossOver? I own a copy of the Windows version, use it some but not enough to justify buying another copy.

Thanks for your help. And sorry if this has been addressed already, I couldn't read all the posts and search turned up little.

IMHO Parallels seems like a better fit for you than Crossover... Particulalry if you already have an XP license you could use...

i don't have an XP license. I have OfficeXP. I don't want to have to buy Parallels plus XP just to run Office.

Oops, thought I attached a screenshot. Here it is (although you can't tell it's from Mac OS X because it goes full screen):
what is you graphic card?

I tried to install Total Annihilation using Crossover. The installer opened, but the colors were all funked up and when I tried to run it, it sent the whole system into lockup (not a KP, but unresponsive, had force a shutdown which I hate doing).

Actually I have tried Crossover on at least 3 separate occasions and was never able to get anything I wanted to run to run.
