I'm going to go with Fight Club. It had a great cast and was based off a wonderful book, but when it was released in theaters, it was only slightly better than a dud.

But if you ask nearly any person (guys in particular) if they have seen Fight Club, the answer is almost always "yes". And most guys, and a few of my girlfriends, absolutely love it. I've seen it no fewer than 15 times, and still love it.

Well then I guess I'm in the minority...I think it's highly overrated. But, I don't really like Ed Norton. That's probably why I didn't like it. They could have picked someone better for that role IMO.

What a surprise that someone with the name Mr. Durden like Fight Club.

I'll agree, it couldn't have been better.

I'll add Grosse Pointe Blank.

"My name in Inigo Montoya. you killed my father. Prepare to die."

"Inconceivable."
"I do not think it means what you think it means."

A classic flick.

Forgot about "The Princess Bride" great classic movie.

Someone mentioned "Army of Darkness" but don't forget "Evil Dead 1 & 2" or "Bubba-Ho-Tep"

I would go with Fight Club also, great following.
My contributions:

Oh Boy, so many movies, so little space....

Blade Runner. I think it warrants cult status.
Mullholland Drive I still haven't figured it all out yet, but I'm working on it.
Last Houst on the Left. See it once, if you haven't seen it yet.
The Beyond. Gory italian horror pics don't get much better than this one. They used to show it at the Coolidge corner movie house (Brookline, MA) on Halloween, but that practice stopped some years back.
Ed Wood In Black and white, a good movie about a guy who made bad movies. It's arguable as to whether or not it has Cult status.
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. This is what 70's Drive-In flicks are all about. finally released to DVD a few months ago.
Vanishing Point. One of the best chase movies ever.
Caltiki, the Immortal Monster! If you're like me, you love those ultra cheap, black and white 50's monster movies from the 50's and early 60's. This is one of the best. You can get it on DVD from some of the non-mainstream dealers, but the quality varies. I'm investigating to find a decent edition.
Santa Claus Conquers The Martians! Uh, if you think "Plan 9 from Outer space" was the worst movie ever made, you have not seen this.
Black Sunday. Not that movie about a blimp exploding over the superbowl from the 70's, but the italian horror movie from the early 60's that starred the immortal Barbara Steele. The opening scene, involving heavy iron mask being literally nailed onto Barbara's face was deemed to gruesome from american movie goers of that time. This was on DVD, but has mysteriously become scarce.

All I can think of for now.

The first movie based on the real life Cannonball Run, 1976's The Gumball Rally, starring the late Raul Julia (in the Ferrari).

I'm seeing a lot of quirky, clever or offbeat mainstream films here. Fight Club? Big Lebowski? Office Space? Princess Bride? Being John Malkovich? These are all just successful mainstream films that had enough character to be worth repeat viewings. These aren't cult films.

OK then... Dirty Duck. Way sicker than Fritz the Cat.

How about Rock N Roll High School?

found a really really really good freaky movie.

Its called Infection, its a japanese horror movie, i recommend it to everyone.

Scary as all frack

Its funny you say that. I like Edward Norton, but before Fight Club I HATED Brad Pitt. Now I like him. I've even gone back and watched some of his older movies that I wouldnt watch before because he was in them.

And of course, now that he's nailing my favorite female actress (actually, favorite female, period) Angelina Jolie, I must say that Brad Pitt is the shiznet.

Oh yeah. How about Monty Python's Search for The Holy Grail for cult movie?

1971's horror film "Web of The Spider" starring Tony Franciosa, with a super cameo at the start by Klaus Kinski in the role of Edgar Allan Poe where he recites one of Poe's stories. Worth finding.

Woody Allen's Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex (but were afraid to ask)

Terry Gilliam's Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
