1) Higher resolution (and quality) screen (and use that awesome finish on the MBA you guys have to reduce glare!)

2) New dual core processor or at least one that's much faster

3) More ram (1 gig plox!)

3) Front and rear camera (rear has to be iPhone4 quality at least, ideally better)

4) Some kind of standard port along with the 30 pin dock

5) Longer battery life (ios4.2.1 has significantly reduced my battery life, even when I'm not multitasking)

6) 3g band that supports multiple carriers

What we'll get.

1) More ram (512 mb)

So are you saying that you prefer to be the problem than part of the solution?

Let me nip this in the bud. I was just asking a question regarding the repetitive threads that basically last a page, then die only to be re-spawned as the same old thread again and again.

I am answering your question. You asked and I answered. This won't be the last. Who said anything about me being prefer to be the problem? Taking things too far. Thanks for your nice accusation.

Same screen size. Higher resolution. I think that a mere doubling of the pixel density would be sufficient.
RAM memory at least on par with the iphone 4. It just feels "wrong" to have less.

Sure enough I too want less weight, cameras yadda yadda, but they are not necessery. I also wouldn't go for then, unless the first two conditions were satisfied.

And now for the hard one.

An additional wacom like digitizer under the screen and a stylus.

Onoes D: Blasphemy I know. But look.
I get it why not on the iphone. I agree. However the iPad is a completely different device.

It is no secret that a lot of Apple's fans are "artists" and Photoshop users. There is then a class of devices, called graphics tablets, which Apple could so easily hit. And hit hard, if only it did that thing. While make-ing the ipad a true moleskin sketchbook / electronic canvas replacement.

There are a lot of screen-less graphics tablets, which had always been a bit awkward to use, because you have to draw in one place, and look at another (I never got the hang of them). There are also a very select few which combine a screen and graphics tablet (the Cintiqs) which are pretty much the dream of any photoshop artists, if it weren't for their outrageous prices. Ie: http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?lang=en&pid=96

That's right. A stand alone, wired, device that does one single thing. Which does nothing more than mirror a screen and relay back the position & pressure data of a pen, actually costs more than an ipad!

And that's the "small & cheap" one. You don't want to know about the other one.

If Apple put such a sensor (one which at no point requires the capacitative screen to be taken out. You would still have multitouch and a glass surface) it would literally decimate wacom, and it would go a long way towards justifying the ipad's price and as a special category of device. Presumably it would also make it more useful when it comes to "taking lecture notes" and such, you often hear people complain about.

Ideally the ipad would be differentiated between "stylus having" and "not so", rather than the current "sim slot having" and "not". And I for one, wouldn't mind paying £100-£200 extra just for that.

Release it for free? There's nothing I can think of that would make me think "OMGZ, I totally needz to buy thiz!" I don't know why everyone is so gung-ho about speculating when it isn't even close to being released... the current iPad is everything I need it to be, plus more. I don't see the need to "need" to buy every new generation of products I already own.

I could just be one of the crazy ones.

Let's see what we have here.

Did you create a thread that is a repeat of other threads that repeat the same thing day in and day out? Survey says: Yes. Your repeat thread is well, part of the problem. While you did answer the question I asked, your answer implied that this is the way it is so oh well another repeat thread. Again, adding to the problem. Soooooo from the way you answered, it appeared that you have no problem jumping on the repeat bandwagon. If I am mistaken, by all means accept my apologies. Your welcome.

You are talking about designing a device for a select group people. I am a photographer and like the app available to manipulate, edit, post process, etc... photos but a Wacom like device is over the top and will be a waste of time, money, etc. as the market for it is infinitesimally small. Very few of the professional photographers I work with bother with Wacom tablets. Don't get me wrong. They are great but do not have a mass market appeal for inclusion in the iPad. It would be an added expense that could not be supported by enough users.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

What can they do for me to go buy the iPad?

1) 128GB storage option.
2) Front facing camera - 720p.
3) Rear facing camera - 5mp - 720p.
4) More RAM.
5) "A5" based on A9.
6) Better display - not retina - better blacks - no yellow tinge - "edge to edge" glass - like the iPhone 4.

What will make me even more pleased at my purchase?

1) Flash.
2) iMovie, iPhoto editing; Photoshop, After Effects - desktop style.
3) Retina display - even though it's impossible.
4) 3D, no glasses display.
5) GPS that works with FMI, so you don't need to be connected to wifi for it to work.
6) FM Radio FGS.

Sorry for my note form list - I'm on my iPod Touch.

1 gig of ram plus a faster processor (dual core would be awesome) with a more full featured version of iphoto and imovie.

That would be great to load photos and movies and then edit them on the go. I know it will never get an SD card slot, but it would be cool to put the SD card from camera into the ipad and get your photos/videos to edit there.

This is the rub. If they gave a more full featured version of iPhoto or iMovie, why would you then need to buy a Mac. Apple is not your friend. Nor is Steve Jobs your buddy. He is a sales man first and foremost. He is loyal to the current Mrs. Jobs, his kids, the shareholders, and his dog, not necessarily in that order. He would sell you air version 1.0 and then offer you pollution as an upgrade. Jobs, like Ballmer, Elison, et al.. are all out for money pure and simple. It is what it is.

I'm not concerned with always having the latest and greatest. I'll upgrade at version 3 or 4. I like the first gen and I see nothing that could happen that would make me spend $600 just to have a camera I won't use or a processor that would allow me to play games I don't play.

There's an entire company, which sells nothing more than that functionality, and it can not be supported through users?

Here's the market segments that would be interested in it:

All the kids in DeviantArt.

All kind of Illustration / Vector graphics / Things-that-have-to-do-with-lines artists.

Architectural offices. Measuring sites on the spot and inputting them straight as cad files. Complete with GPS support and 3G synching back to the office immediately, the possibilities are awesome.

Japanese/Chinese/Korean Calligraphy students (I kid, I kid. But I find something elegant in someone being able to draw a symbol on an e-tablet with an e-stick, in a single stroke. Also it's no secret that "full" Chinese keyboards are a bit of a problem for devices)

Schools / Universities wanting the thing to replace "textbooks", but always struggling with that annotations / taking notes thingy. Ever tried to copy a physics diagram / equation to an ipad? Me neither.

All kinds of professions that might already use the ipad as a "paperless office" accessory, but would also appreciate the ability to have "electronic signatures" that are not crap (like those made from capacitative styluses). I have seen courier and real estate companies using tablets for that sole reason in the past, they might as well get that one.

It would also open up a world of possible intuitive gestures. For example, instead of trying to select a world with the two brackets, quickly circle it and let the software figure out which one you meant, etc

Surely, such a thing must have more mass market appeal, than, say a desktop trackpad.

I know im gonna get flamed for this, but i LOVE the glass on the front AND back on the iPhone 4.

If they can do that without increasing risk too much, that would be amazing. The look of the iPhone 4 is just SO sleek and amazing. A look update is definitely on my list.

But some other wishlist items include:

-Retina-ish display (any resolution increase)
-Faster processor (2Ghz?)
-Front/Back cameras
-AT LEAST 1080i HD recording
-Final Cut editing software (express version would be fine)
-True tethering (complete wifi hotspot, not crappy bluetooth tethering)
-Bluetooth data transfer (use at a medium to transfer files using bluetooth)

There's tons more, i just forget them all. I'll edit as I think of them!

Steve has, on many occasions, expressed his dismay for items such as a stylus. He wants the iPad to stay and ALL TOUCH medium. If not, they would have allowed the option to tether a damn magic mouse to it. There will never be a wacom that you can attach to the iPad in my opinion. It's just not going to happen.

I can't believe all the people complaint about screen resolution I think the iPad screen reolution is great

A couple of things seem like a sure bet like more ram and a front facing camera. Both of those would be welcome. Likely they'll bring battery life back to iOS 3 levels as well.

I'd like to see them ditch the iPod connector in favor of micro USB as they are going to be forced to do for euro iPhones shortly and open things up a bit for micro USB devices and chargers. Likely won't happen unless they are forced though.

A universal wireless chip that would work on any carrier would be nice but I likely wouldn't bother with anything but a wifi only model anyway.

I'm not expecting anything big and may or may not bother upgrading. Most of the things I'd like to see are not likely to happen as they'd require apple to relinquish some control in favor of openess.

I don't own one, but I get to use one pretty regularly. I want one myself, I'm considering if I should get rev2 or buy rev1 on the cheap once the second one is released. Here are my criteria:

- Spec bump is a given. We don't want rim to feel smug for too long with their "Most powerful Tablet" claim, do we?
- Facetime camera.
- 1280 × 960 would seem like a reasonable progression from 1024 x 768
- No rear camera. It would be straight up retarded on a device like this. For the same reason Apple isn't doing touchscreen imacs. Are you going to hold a 1.5 pound 10" screen in front of your body to take a cellphone quality shot? People are going to be dropping their ipads trying to focus/shoot with the touchscreen, because you're going to have to take one hand off. Have you seen people taking photos with Android tablets? They look ridiculous, and the ipad is much bigger.

What the heck is with so many people asking for ”a better screen"? Am I the only one who ended up with an iPad with a gorgeous IPS display, with an outstanding 132ppi pixel density, and which outclasses any screen I've ever seen on any other PC/Mac/laptop/netbook/tablet?

I'd leap at the chance to have this screen on every computer I own. And yet, if a stranger saw this thread and all the comments on the screen, they'd probably think the iPad must certainly have a terrible quality display.

I thought so too, but since then I have thought a couple cool applications about it.

One is augment reality apps. Like the starfield tracking thing.

Two is the ability to hold it over a document and OCR/"scan" it. There is already such an app for the iphone and it would make even more sense for the ipad. It would be as if the tablet is able to absorb external paper documents!

This will look even dumber than those who use the Samsung Tablet. Front facing it probably a given for the next tablet, but a rear facing cam to take pictures and scan stuff is taking the iPad out of its sweet-spot. It is simply not designed for this. So far everything you have posted has been aimed at a very small market which will guarantee that it never comes to fruition. The Wacom like device, the OCR ability, etc... I don't think you understand the concept behind the iPad. A Windows based tablet might be more in line with what you want.
