I was just told by apple online sales guy that there will not be any releases tomorrow! He actually guranteed it. So I guess it's not going to be tomorrow.

And I was told by many apple sales people that they don't know about updates any more than the consumer does.

Would you expect anything different from them. That doesn't mean anything.

I would like to see a processor and graphics update. I'm not sure how they are going to handle heat dissipation though, unless the new chips run significantly cooler.

They do run significantly cooler. Intel released a core i5 and i7 chip suitable for laptops around December.

And unlikely, unprecedented, and retarded on Apple's part. I don't know where this June+ idea comes from—seems to be from a lot of new members—but I don't see Apple doing that guys.

Also, to answer a few other commonly asked questions that people don't seem to read:

  • Apple releases new models at relatively the same prices as the older ones. Normally there is NO change. Sometimes it differs by about $100 on either side.
  • Older models then get clearanced out through the refurb store.
  • Apple rarely alters the release schedule, except during major transitions such as that to Intel. The new MBPs are due, and they'll be out soon.
  • Apple works on products in divisions, as has been said. They may borrow people from time to time, but generally they have people working on all products. While Apple is relatively small, they're not small enough that they have to pull everyone off of what they're working on to come out with a new product.

So this is my first post, so my question should show how much of a newbie I am. I am looking to buy a 13'' MacBook Pro like IMMEDIATELY, as in I was going to buy one last week. However, the buyers guide on this site changed my mind.. at least for the mean time. I just have a few questions for the experts:

1) I'm a full time college student and make music as a hobby, so would whatever is rumored to be updated really worth me purchasing?

2) What exactly are the rumored changes? I don't even really know what the difference is between a Core 2 or i5 or i7, so is buying the current model that is currently out not a good idea?

3) If i purchased a MacBook Pro today, and apple decides to release a new MBP in a week, does apple do anything in terms of exchanges?

Thanks in advance.

Bottom line: the update will be better than the current model. If the update isn't compelling for what you do, you buy the current model at a clearance price. Either way you win.

Advice: do not buy until these machines are updated.

Updated processors are the only sure thing. Bigger hard drives? Hopefully. Better graphics processors? Maybe.

It's never a good idea to buy an Apple product when an update is imminent (which in this case it almost certainly is).

Sure, buying anything electronic guarantees obsolescence. The trick with Apple stuff is to buy immediately after a product update to get the most bang for your buck (and keep buyer's remorse to a minimum).

I bought a 24" iMac last summer. You better believe I wish I had waited. :(

3) If i purchased a MacBook Pro today, and apple decides to release a new MBP in a week, does apple do anything in terms of exchanges?

Yes, but why subject yourself to the pain (and probable restocking fee)? What if they don't announce new machines until a day after your return period expires?

Waiting for the updated product before buying is your best option.

can tomorrow be the day!?!?!?!

Holy C**P Batman could it be today? The wind is coming from the north west and I saw a cat walking backwards this morning. The apples in the fruit bowl are starting to brown.

My hopes are today but my guess is a few months yet to give the Ipad breathing room.

Maybe it will be soon I got my tax info through yesterday and im £100 a month better, my tax code lowered due to a more economical car. Its all on the up.

Monday was a holiday. Usually, when Monday is a holiday, Apple releases products on Wednesday. So if it doesn't happen tonight, tomorrow is still possibility for this week.

haha yea!

no update today:( maybe tomorrow or next week or next year...

While I don't think anything is coming today, if it is this week it will be tomorrow due to President's Day...I still think next Tuesday.

However, if it is today, it can come as late as 12:00 EST which is when the Store went down for the iMac. It was a very late update, so don't necessary count it out.
