No the wait would not be a waste
you wiill buy the current mbp at a much lower price!!!!
i am in the same situation, new mbp with good graphics or old mbp cheaper
waiting is GOOD
even though stressful

I hope the new MBP's come in at 1100 starting, and the old 13 drops to 800. That would make my pocket happy. Then I might consider getting the 15" model if they drop it enough. Maybe Tuesday is the day, maybe not. Since I am a BestBuy Premier Silver rewardzone member, I have 45 days on the return, so I am buying this friday regardless of what happens. Hopefully I will be able to worm out of the restocking fee.

danm it, when ever i put my view on these forums every1 else is alwas right lol:apple:

Don't fret! LOL. Its really anyone's guess as to what Apple is going to do. We're all on here, trying to pass the time until 1) we break down and get the current one, or 2) the new one gets announced.

If I had to call it, I'd have to say that Apple is focusing on iPad and it'll be June before a new and improved MBP is announced. WWDC-latest and greatest iPhone and MBP. Now, back to waiting (sigh)...

And if that weren’t enough to convince you—the 1000+ comments in this thread tell us that Apple is going to see quite a jump in sales right after they update them. And these are just the ones voicing complaints. For every one of us there are probably 50 others viewing this thread who haven’t commented. I still think there is a very good chance Apple will release them tomorrow. They will likely want all of their new sales numbers for the MBP update to fall under 1st quarter profits because I don’t think sales numbers for their iPaddy will be outstanding. Just my opinion, though.

And how about the number of newbies who joined for this thread alone? I myself only signed up for a MacRumors account so that I could comment on this thread. And I know I've noticed at least a few others who have alluded to the same thing. That is also a sign of how big of a deal this is to people —*people want a new MBP and are getting impatient. Pushing the MBP update another month or two would be bad.

I also don't get why everyone is talking about the MBP update stealing away from iPad's thunder. If Apple bumps the MBP, it doesn't have to replace iPad's front-page stature. They could promo the new MBP for a brief period and then bring the iPad back, or just have the new MBPs at the bottom of the page. They'd be getting enough free social marketing from the thousands of people who end up buying them the day/week they come out. I know I'll be posting it on Facebook/Twitter/etc. when I get my new MBP.

The problem is if Apple waits another two months, then the update will have to be all that much more significant.

Well they are focusing on the iPad, but a release in June would be a year since the last update. That's stupid and unprecedented, even for Apple.

Being new to the Mac front (only own a touch) i kinda find this fun. You know with PC you know what is coming for the most part, and they do put out products pretty consistently as new technology rolls around (just my 2 cents!). I am really hoping that Apple does an update soon, as I would never pay over a 1000 for a Dual Core Processor! I own a XPS 1530 (3 GB RAM, 120 GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT w/256 dedicated RAM) which can play the games i need to play but man it has been very unstable (Vista), and I am tired of rebuilding it! Dell has stepped up their customer care, though I have onsite call plan. How is Apple Care, I believe that is warranty Apple offers. I am really looking at the MBP or MBA as I need somehting with great battery life, and I dont have to waste time rebuilding it! Would Apple really wait another month to update their products? You see the i3, i5 processors everywhere now, I cannot imagine Apple would be this far behind unless they are about to blow away the competition....:D

I hate to tell you this but...the current entry level generation of MBPs would be way better than the Dell you have now...:D

That is a very good point. This MBP update will almost certainly be just a spec bump and it wouldn’t necessarily require prime website placement/marketing. The sheer number of current product offerings from Apple means sometimes certain updates will have to take a backseat to so-called “bigger” product launches—not that I’m of the opinion the iPaddy warrants it. My “apple-guesser” still tells me they will release it within a week a day. :D

The Macbook Pro may get a slight redesign like the iMac did, given that they just went to 16x9 screens. That doesn't mean the notebooks will, but it is very plausible. And we know that Apple doesn't feel an event is necessary for that anymore as shown with the iMac.

I don't see it as stealing the iPad's thunder at all, it is a different product category as Jobs tried to state. While I will use iPad more than my laptop probably once I get it, it will not be a full replacement.

I expect the update within the next two weeks, then the iPad pre-orders in early March once the FCC approves the device.

I guess I don't get why everyone is getting so worked up about a spec bump. If it comes out right away, it probably won't be that big of a deal. :D
When I say that Apple is focused on the iPad, I mean that's where they are focusing their resources, not that a refreshed MBP would compete for real estate with the iPad on Apple's front page of their website.

I have been waiting to own a mac ever since I left design school 7 years ago. I have been waiting on THIS MBP update for over 6 months. I have money, gift certificates (collected from xmas and birthdays). I am so freaking obsessed with reading all of your smart little tech comments. I can hardly CONTAIN MYSELF! DO it! RELEASE the darn thing! PLEASE!

ok...i feel better now.

I have 2 PCs. One at work and one at home (for work).
They are both similar (4 years old and made for me), their specs being:

Windows XP
Xeon CPU 2.40 GHz
2.39 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

I use CS3 and am SO ready for this new mac.

Let's go!

If it ends up being just a spec bump, I would be pretty disappointed. I've been waiting since the early neutral stage of the last release. Hoping for a surprise, but either way i'm buying. :D

I don't think you understand...

If you were to buy a MBP right now you would be paying a premium for OLD technology. After the refresh you will pay a competitive price for new technology. It's a big deal because people don't want to spend money on old technology. If you aren't in the market for a MBP right now, then the refresh is completely irrelevant.

Also, if it came out today it still wouldn't be "right away"... We are due for a refresh.

What it comes down to is waiting a few weeks so you can get a nicer computer for cheaper that will last you longer.

I understand just fine. I guess I'll be one of the ones paying a premium for "old" technology, that in my humble opinion works just fine and in many cases a lot better than a Windows based PC. Also, you are basing your opinions on what, what Apple has done over the last three years? That is no guarantee they will do things under the same timeframe this time around. For all of you that have been waiting for this update since the last one came out, I really hope it is all you want it to be. But I'm buying this weekend-refresh or no refresh! :D

Sale

I guess I don't understand how apple works. Once this new one comes out, will the older ones go on sale? Someone told me that apple never goes on sale. I'm confused about this.

1. Completely different divisions at Apple. Sure they shuffle people around to prioritize projects like iPad, but that doesn't mean that MacBook Pro/laptop division would be sitting there twiddling their thumbs while the iPad is getting all the attention.
2. The MBP is likely their biggest selling item. At least top 2. No way they're going to let it fall behind significantly (unless, as previously stated, they feel like making poor business decisions).
3. The iPad would be 99% done by now, so they should have no problems releasing a relatively minor update to the MBP.
4. As I previously stated, as have many others on this thread, if Apple waited until after the iPad, their MBP line would be even more out of date for that much longer.

I'm not saying this will guarantee a release tomorrow or before the end of the month, but it would seriously make me question their logic if they did wait until after the iPad. Besides, the iPad 3G would be another month after the initial iPad, which would put the MBP update another month behind, making the MBP even older.

When Apple releases updates to models, they will usually sell their remaining stuck at a discount on the Refurbished part of their store online. These models will often a bigger discount that normal refurbished models since they are outdated. For example, some previous model iMacs are on sale for $750 up here in Canada, whereas the current models are only a few hundred dollars off.

I can hardly CONTAIN MYSELF! DO it! RELEASE the darn thing! PLEASE!

To me, there are way too many sales / discounts going on right now regarding the old models (MBA & MBP) not to signal an imminent refresh (& redesign of MBA plz) of both. It's going to happen tomorrow, I'm sure of it (Disclaimer: I was positive it was going to be last Tuesday.)

The only time I've ever seen Apple put something on sale was the iPhone 3G 8GB. This could have been because they had a lot of stock leftover when the iPhone 3GS was released or because they wanted to have an "entry-level" iPhone to attract more customers.

As far as the MBP is concerned, I would think they would let stock run out before bringing out the new ones. I wouldn't expect Apple to put the current MBP on sale.

Of the people predicting tomorrow for the update, how many predicted last week as well, or the week before... Just wondering if any of the "tomorrow is the day" predictions come from new information (or new analysis of current information.

You will probably be able to buy the current MBPs at a discounted price from resellers after the refresh. Apple doesn't really do sales directly.
