I read this article too and thought the same thing at first. However, the article did not specifically state the Macbook Pro, it just said Mac sales are up along with iPods. Perhaps there is still hope for tomorrow...

I wouldnt get too worried about this. Because it just said macs in general and did not specify the mbp. The imac and mac pro have already recieved i5 and i7 so could sales possibly be up from that? There is no doubt that apple is still selling macbook pros, but I dont think it will affect the relese date of the new ones. Tomorrow, the 16, 23, 26, nobody knows but steve jobs who is reading all theses posts sitting on his couch on his new i7 mbp laughing at us all.

What are you getting?

Who is looking to buy what!!! I am looking to buy a 17" with antiglare. Is the 17 to big to really be a portable device for the plane or to carry around with you all over town?

So what is everyone looking to get when the new bugger comes out?

17 is too big for me on an airplane. Im going with a 15 inch. Most likely 2.8 Ghz or higher and of course the i5 or i7 :)

The 17 is gorgeous
unfortunately for how i travel usually (with all my camera gear more than 22 pounds) i cant really think to carry anything bigger and heavier than a 15
(which is already a lot)
but if i had to carry just a laptop 17 would be my choice

15" 2.53GHz stock model. :D

Not knowing what the graphics are going to be in the new 15" but now it's only 1440 by 900 and the 17" is true 1920 by 1200, I really want that picture. Better battery life as well.

Quite curious to see what they do with the MBA...I'm looking at the high end one of those (pending a view of the specs)

i surely hope you r right!

That is exactly where I am at! F word!

Buy a MBP now, and if they update them in < 2 months, whine and bitch with Apple Customer Care and get a free Time Capsule or something like that. I was able to get a free 1TB Time Capsule 6 months ago when I bought the 24" iMac just over a month before the new 27" iMac. The secret is:

- you have to make sure they understand this is your first Mac
- you have to make it clear that your purchase experience with Apple was ruined by the fact that the brand new MBP are priced the same/cheaper
- re-iterate how you feel like Apple screwed you over by coming out with way better hardware at a much more competitive price

All (ok, most) of our problems would go away if they simply dropped prices regularly between hardware updates. If the current MBPs were priced $300-500 cheaper than what they are now, and if they bumped the prices of the new MBPs back up to "regular" prices, then there's no real loss. If I was given this option right now, I would probably just buy from the current MBP line. However, I am not so desperate that I can't wait 1-3 weeks to see if the updates will come in time.

However, I just know that if in 3 weeks they haven't yet updated the MBPs, and I go out and buy one, they'll update them 15 days later...

To me, it's not that I would have old hardware. I can live with that. The real insult is that the value comparison of the previous model MBPs compared to a newer model MBP. They jump the specs and price in one day, once every 6-12 months or so. How many businesses in any category only update their prices that infrequently?

I think that the new specs will be close to this but a little better.

That would be a start, but I'd also like to see a redesign with a better speaker(s) as well as a fix for this hinge issue that seems to be bothering a lot of people. Also, I understand the fan is quite loud (and necessarily since the unit is currently under-supplied with RAM), so I'd like to see about that as well.

Question for you guys...My Best Buy has a 15" MBP w/4gb 2.66 c2d open box that they are willing to drop to 1100 for me. Is that a good price for this? If so I 'll get it this Friday. And no, it does not have the extra video card.

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Go for it and be happy :D

How about pricing on this refresh. I have been looking at the low end 15" (the cheapest one) because that's all I can afford. Will the price for the low-end 15" stay the same, higher or lower? Thanks in advance from a long time pc'er and soon to be first time mac'er (hopefully soon)!

I personally would hold off. I would think there will be more sales after the new one gets released and you'll be getting a new one with a good warranty.

The open box one comes with a new warranty. I was also offered the 13" for 800. got a tough choice to make.

That's just ridiculous and not right. Why should a company have to reimburse you and or give you free items just because they updated their line? This is why companies are in trouble because customers always think they deserve more.

Well spoken! That is why someone needs to do their research before they spend money they are pissed about spending. Is this why someone created forums? I am finding out a lot of info about everything.

I guess it depends on what you are used to. My first thought was that a 17 would be too large for me, but when I actually compared the current 17" mbp to my Dell XPS M 1530 (15.4"), it's not that much different. The 17 is 4/5 of a pound heavier and that difference goes away if I'm using the 9 cell battery. The 17 is about 1.5 inches wider than my Dell, but I don't think that's an issue. As for the depth (which would matter the most probably with regards to airplanes and other tight spots), it's only .17 inches deeper. I have no problems carrying around or using my Dell in tight spots, so there really is no reason to think the 17 would be any more difficult.

I just talked myself into spending an extra couple hundred dollars I think....:)
