Ok, Sooooooo... to further my post about the update coming, today I logged into my order status page and at the top it says "Action Required, please call 800-800-APPLE to speak to a rep.."

I just got off the phone with the rep and she said, my order is going to be further delayed because there's a product transition coming, but her system doesn't specify what product.. She gave me the number of my local rep to call and get more info but she's not in the office yet...

I'll post back when I hear from the local rep about what the product transition is...

any news?
come on, you know u can save some lives here!

LOL yes whats the news you definitely can save some lives! So is this the longest apple has gone without a refresh in its history? I hope they got something good planned. For some reason I think they are cooking up something that will be worth this terrible wait! Though I have never owned a Mac as of to date, I am waiting to see what hand they play, they have impressive machines!

Well, I've got my fingers crossed;)! It would be a good time to do it with the world's tech press in attendance.

Cheers,

jahman

Fermi (GTX 480/470) is going to be released march 26.

I'm hoping the MBP will go with ATI instead of invidia this time around.

Any exciting news? Did her system specify WHEN the transition was? It really can't be anything other than the MBP... At least nothing I can think of off the top of my head.

It means their phasing out their older machines to replace them with newer models. We've all been expecting this any Tuesday now...

Paperboy - I know about the expected refresh, but am a farely newbie newb and wanted to be sure that "product transition" actually means refresh. Thanks for the help, so I guess FSUSeminoles message makes it more likely we're looking at 3/2/10 here? Your thoughts on that? Thanks for your input as I really need as laptop but am determined to wait for refresh but gotta get 3rd party financing in order first, everything is ready to go just gotta move $ around = like everyone else I am trying to predict = failed

Personally, I've been expecting the refresh any of the last four Tuesdays, so not a good sounding board. It's gotta be soon though and I thought I recalled a mid March date showing up in one of the BestBuy computer systems....we'll see

It's hard to wait... I went to Mac store about 6 weeks back to buy a MBP 15" but went home to do research and stumbled upon this thread, my first time on Macrumors. I immediately signed up for an accoutn and asked a few questions, lots of helpful folks. So, I've spent the last 6 weeks checkign this thread and others for every nugget of info. I can find... pathetic I know:D

Welcome to the club...we've all be grasping at those same straws. As I mentioned, I think we're awfully close to the update....

It might seem like 6 weeks ago, but you haven't been a member for a month yet. ;)

well, we all know it's coming; it's just we don't know when

https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#MacBook_Pro

as noted above, it's been 263 days since mackbook pro refresh. average is usually 200 days. however, 263 days is not the longest wait. as u can see, 2/2008, 10/2005, 1/2005 and 9/2003 refreshes were longer.

I'm well aware of all this. But none of that answers my question as to whether or not the representative had a date in their system for when the transition was taking place.

They're just bitter because no one in his right mind would pay more than $600 for a Dell laptop. ;)

Well, $600 for a Dell would be overpaying as well, so...

Excellent point.

Perhaps you should open your eyes (and lower your level of ignorance)
and look at the Dell Latitude line of business laptops. (And at
similar Lenovo/Acer/HP business models.)

Definitely on the high side of $600 - with the build quality,
feature sets and next-day at-home support to match. Even more,
a choice - want big-heavy screaming quad-core - OK. Want light
all day battery - OK. Want eSATA, Blu-ray, builtin 3G - OK.

But, if you want to keep your heads in the sand and believe that
Dell only sells at Best Buy, your choice.

Sorry, I was out of the office I heard back from our local field rep and she couldn't "specifically" say that's what the transition was, but she gave a wink, wink that's what it is.. she said it didn't say in her system, or maybe it does but she couldn't say which I can completely understand..

Again, she didn't have any specific dates or if she did she certainly wasn't going to tell me, and she wouldn't specify WHEN it would be shipping, she just assured me it should ship out within a week or two and that my order is still intact...

That's the best info I could get out of her and that she would divulge to me..

P.S- here's a screen shot of what it says on my status order page..

Just to add to the speculation...MacMall and OnSale just on Tuesday this week added an additional 3% discount on the current MBP. It is effective only through the 28th of Feb. Since there is not usually much discounting beyond what they normally offer is it possible they've been given permission (or even requested) by Apple to offer this discount to reduce inventory? Apple would want to minimize any old MBP in the channel if they are going to introduce the new ones.

What exactly was your order?

Its not ignorance. Dells are ****. I've owned enough to know. You can have all the bleeding-edge hardware you want, and it will look great on paper, but **** is ****, no matter how it's polished or spun up. I'm guessing you own a Latitude, otherwise you wouldn't be getting butt-hurt over a comment. So, to that, all I can say is...

Sorry. :(
