Here is a thought: I been reading that the PM55 and HM55 Core i series chipsets are having lots of issues when syncing with Apple devices like the iPhone and iPod on Windows based Notebooks featuring these chipsets. I wonder if Apple was having the same difficultly with this chipset when testing out the new Macbook Pro, thus delaying it as long as it has been delayed now.

Ignorant is the only word for you. I have never lost anything from a virus in 20 years of using a PC. Have others? sure they have but as another person said that is the stupid people out there that click on stuff that allow viruses in. I will give you that the OS is better with Mac but Windows 7 is getting pretty good reviews. I am going to say that I am settling but I will not settle with the current MBP. As for the battery this confirms your stupidity and the fact that you have drank the Apple Kool-aide and beleive that there is nothing that even compares to a Mac. Of the people that I know that own a MBP, none of them actually see the advertised 7 hour battery life and I am sure that the advertised 7 hour battery life or the PC I am buying will be the same. I don't see how you can say a 7 hour mac battery is better than a 7 hour Sony battery. Enjoy your Kool-Aide dumbass

I must say that the majority of the Mac users on here have been very helpful and have provided some valuable information. Good luck in the waiting game hope they come out soon for you all.

ahaha here we go
of course nobody ever claims that ever lost anything for virus with windows, too bad the reality is way different, so good for you u have been careful and lucky, i never been careful and never got anything
regarding battery life, apple is leading the market regarding that, but hey keep thinking what u want and hopefully u dont need to stay away from plugs for too longunless of course you get a super clunky battery that last more, but weighs too much and kind of defeats the purpose of being a laptop, and usually those pc burn your lap after 40 min...
but no, it is not true
i used pcs and sorry to say, the mac experience is much better
regarding being a dumbass...well i did not start calling names and wont do it if u are a rude person or maybe 15 years old, is all your business
enjoy your sony...LOL

The reason they have problems is the power management builtin to the CPU. If you have one of these boards, and issues with any USB connected device, the key is to go into the bios, and disable the C-states that allow the CPU to control power to these connections. After that, you should be clear of any problems. ( i have personally verified this on numerous PCs, with Apple and RIM connected devices).

I doubt Apple will have any of these issues, as they wont give that much control to Intel as to how devices are connected and powered. Its should be strictly an OS controlled feature.

Let's keep it civil guys. This is a Mac forum, not a Windows or Mac bashing forum. We all know there are viruses out there, most for Windows. And those that get them are not dummies or stupid. I got one from a pdf I got from a known source. But Macs are not immune. Remember, viruses are written by idiots, and as the Mac popularity increases, so will the number of viruses and attack on those that use them. Now, back on topic. I want another Macbook (yes I 've been bitten by the bug), but I saw a Sony Vaio 16" for 1399 that has a i7, 6gb ram, Blu-ray drive, and 1gb discrete video card. that is a big deal for only 1399.

Naive! Not bashing products, pah get outta here. ;)

hey i did not offend anybody,
anyway just a thought
yeah specs of that vaio sounds definitely good but
w that processor blue ray and 1gb discrete good luck running the copmuter without a plug for more than 2 hours
and it is gonna get pretty darn hot...
and is it as thin and light as a mbp?
everything has a price
it depends what you value more
u need battery life, being able to handle the pc anyway you want to, being light? prolly that is not your computer
if you do not value those characteristic high enough and dont care you lose mac os, that sounds like a great deal
just dont like people coming to a mac forum and start saying oh if i dont get this and that go back to pc
please go back and enjoy the experience
i ve been there already, and until mac keeps good quality , great os, and customer service will never leave

Ok ladies, handbags away and back on topic.

Seems Amazon have reduced the Macbook Pro by £100, is that a sign?

:apple:

well everything can be a sign unless nothing happens
for weeks there have been signs but nothing happened yet
hopefully something happens next week
i wanna buy a new mbp or a old one at a really really good price!!!!

it probably will serve him excellently, as compared to an overpriced MBP with 2 year old tech.

You get what you pay for. I've had to send in 3 Dell laptops in less than 6 months for repairs. Want to play a fun game? Lets play "put the Dell laptop on a flat level surface and see how bad it wobbles from frame torque and case bending". I'll bet you get a winner every time. Or here's another fun game; lets see if the charger will charge the battery today. Since they ship their power adapters with a proprietary chip to prevent aftermarket chargers. Only problem is, the chip is cheap and will burn out, leaving you with no option but to keep shelling out cash for a new charger, since that's not under warranty. Or how about the Windows 7 chipset drivers for the nforce mobile chipsets that Dell put out that cause systematic OS freeze-ups every few minutes, continuously, that they've not bothered to fix for going on 6 months now? And these aren't just examples I pulled from my ass; I just described personal experiences with three laptops I've bought in 6 months. Each looked great based on specs, but turned into **** once pulled out of the box.

Read the Dell support forums sometimes. 'Excellently' my sweet ass. Doesn't matter how fast something is compared to 2 year old tech, if the new hardware comes in a package that runs like ****.

I used to think apple was a leader, now im seeing them more or less as a milkman. Apple pro series is selling well, so rather then update like everyone else has already done they continue to ride the wave. Im not saying that isnt smart, just that it kinda sucks they are milking it so long.

i dont like to bring up other companies in my posts, but sony (best buy) is selling i5 processor with nvidia 330 graphics and 500 gb hard drive for 950. thats looking pretty sweet right now. Im not making a threat just saying it is what it is. looks really attractive right now. im not waiting much longer with so many deals out there.

All this waiting has givin me time to shop and look around. Apple will really have to impress me at this point since I know whats out there

i agree with this 100%....

Or maybe they are seeing how the others are doing and making theirs that much better? I am sure they would love the sales as there are a lot of us waiting. Plus they release damn good products that seem to work and keep working. I would rather wait a little longer (not tell june thou) then to have something that would have to be repaired sooner or later.

But on the other hand, I bet they have been playing with this for quite some time now so maybe it has been long enough....

I just think they owe us loyal customers an idea of what and when it's coming. Jobs is just being disrespectful at this rate.

If auto manufactures we're paranoid about selling cars they wouldn't tell us what features they are working on for the next years model nor would they tell us when they'd be available because they would fear that no one would buy this years model or the competition would steal their secrets.

Apple would be stupid to tell everybody about the new lineup before it was ready, cause sales of existing stock would grind to a complete halt. I too am tired of waiting, but the alternative is to take your money elsewhere. I know you are frustrated, and waiting makes the frustration just increase. Hopefully the wait will be worth it, or my next laptop will be a Sony, as per my previous posts. It is what it is. As for Steve Jobs, he seems to be more occupied by the impending iPad than the Macbooks. I will have to get my hands on one of those before I pay judgement. Peace!!!

hey guys,
New to this forum
just a couple of questions, i am just starting uni and looking at which macbook pro i should get, thinking about the 13". I will be using mostly for the net n notes and such but i play the drums and somtimes might play around with the music programs and such. what do u guys think would be the right computer?

Is it worth waiting for something that no one knows wen its coming out.
for what im doin would the current macbook pro do me fine?

I will also be looking to buy through the education discount. should i try and get a back pack thrown in as well by claiming im on a tight budget?

Also can you explain the whole graphics issue. i don't think this affects me a lot but all the help would be great.

thanks guys

Hrm, part of Europe Refurb Store is down.

At least UK, France, Switzerland and Austria don´t have any Refurb Models on stock anymore. I don´t know if this means anything though.

Edit:

Damn, now they show up again. :( Bah

Umm - I've never had problems with PSU's like I've had with Macs. Three mac laptops. ALL have had their PSU's crap out. ALL have been flakey, unreliable pieces of crap...oh...and proprietary as well.

I absolutely love Windows 7 as compared to Vista. I've had it since the release (October 2009) and I've never had a virus or problem with it. I'm afraid to make the switch to Apple computers because I've been so lucky with my HP, and the price of a MBP is insane.

My thought is that 70-80% of the people walking into the stores (or online) to buy a MBP today don't know or necessarily care that an update is coming. For many people the 'current' model is more than sufficient. The other 20-30%, the ones in this forum, can bash all they want, but in the end, Apple gets high marks on customer service and other awards because the everyday consumer is very happy with the products they overpay for.

Indeed, one isn't really "overpaying" if he is happy with the product he is paying for.

Is it better to pay "fair" price (whatever that means) and be unhappy with the product he is paying for?

Isn't product satisfaction ultimately the justification for paying more for anything? And isn't it that product satisfaction that allows anyone (newsflash: Apple isn't the only company in the world thought to charge more than "fair" price) to overcharge at all?

Seems to me that's what the free market is all about. Great products that make people happy = charge more!

Absolutely, and EVERY company listed on EVERY stock exchange wishes they could get more money for their products or services. It's all supply and demand and quality / satisfaction / reputation all go into that.

I only used the term 'overpay' since many people feel that's what everyone is doing by buying technology that, in their minds, is outdated.
