Yes I understand the MBP is not likely to get an i3. The MB is most likely to get an i3-330M or i5-330M

And has it ever been stated the i5-520M 2.4GHz is the base for the MBP? The i5-430M at 2.26GHz is the lowest end i5 mobility

And where does Optimus say it has a 40 SP's? No Nvidia mobility GPU atm has 40SP's. You have 16 SP's with the G310M then the GT325M and 330M have 48SP's. I haven't kept up to attention on it's specs, and don't recall when they ever revealed the tech specs

The 40SP number has been the number on the rumor sites since last Spring. Inq, Fudzilla, etc.

How much would I get on craigslist or ebay for a 15inch 1.67ghz Powerbook G4? To fund my unibody.

http://www.everymac.com/

find your mac, gives you an estimate of its current value. usually you'll get offers about $100-$300 less than what they say, depending on what your machine is worth. Don't know much about your machine, but if it's in good condition, I would think maybe about $300?

If the macbook pro was to come onsale online, what time would the website get a refresh? Can anyone remember what time the newer imac came online? SO hope its tomorrow! :D :apple:

If this seems to be true (which i hope it is) i will finally make the jump from PC laptop to a MBP. I have the iphone 3g and it was the first apple product i have ever owned. I am just tired of the window OS and from what i have been able to see from my friends and some family that have apple is just a more reliable product.

Q: what are the biggest flaws that apple has? ( i am only asking because the PC has way too many but i just want to be more informed about the product i will soon buy)

Couple More Photos

I just posted two more photos over in the forum. The new Pros have to be here soon.:apple:

I can't wait as my six yr old Dell desktop is dying. I swear it just turned off by itself while I was using iTunes today. I'm gonna try and convince my parents to get me a MBP 15 in w/ a core i5/7 when they come out so I can take it to college with me. I am done using windows on a crappy pentium 4. Hello MacBook pro. Mr. Jobs, I shall convince my dad to give some of his money to you. :)

16GB memory would require 4 banks, which I doubt they'll do (maybe in the 17" model). Steve Jobs said a few weeks ago that they're not totally against Blu-Ray, but that they'll probably wait to integrate it until the technology isn't such a mess (takes forever to load, the format isn't very popular yet, etc). As for the terabyte, that would require a dual platter at least, and I don't see Apple fattening up their line to support that, although dual drive support would be awesome on the larger sizes (maybe in RAID?)

My (hopefully realistic) hopes and dreams for the refresh:

-Core i5/i7 across the lineup
-updated chipsets/GPUs (maybe an ATI option?)
-IPS panels (if they can fit it in the iPad, they can fit it in a MBP)
-Lower prices (comparable models usually seem to drop $100-$200, from what I've seen in the past)

Also, I'd like a discrete graphics option on the 13". That was the main thing I didn't like about mine - no CoD4! If they hit 2 or 3 of my requests, I'm throwing money down. Otherwise, I may wait for the Core i7 Vaio Z mentioned earlier or something similar (why didn't they do a RAID 5 on it?)

I'm hoping that the motherboard would be able to handle 16GB (2x 8GB sticks) of RAM Not for now, but possible in the future - can make a big difference 2-3 years down the road.

I know this doesn't mean much but I do Tier 1 tech support for apple so I'm on that site all day when people are trying to figure out what cpu best fits their needs. I havent seen as many refurbs on the site ever as what was on there today. I mean usually there a just a couple MBP's in the 900-1300 range and there were a ton today.

That's what I'm saying! Plus there's this happening tomorrow:

All on a freaking Tuesday! Omptimus seems to be exactly what the MBP needs. No log out needed. Combine it with one of their fine new GPUs and the macbook pro really would hit the sweet spot... Wonder if there might be a special guest at macworld...

...The Unibodys are only 16 months old, so they're about mid-cycle...
I say this with all respect: what time table-slide ruler are you working over, Poindexter? By your calculations, there'll be a redesign for the Macbook Pro in about 16 months (just a few months more than 2.5 years for the life of the unibody)! Wow -- crazy talk!

The original AI Powerbook that replaced the Titanium models came on the scene in January 2003 and stayed until October 2008 -- 3 months shy of 6 years!!

With the Unibody models being superior to the AI model, we can exprect the design to perhaps last even longer than the AI design, not drastically less time.

Now, I hope that there isn't 6 years between the current and the next major overhaul (God, the 6 years to get the unibody design was a long time), but I don't see things changing as quick as you're thinking.

Basically just communication with Windows. They're getting better at it, but it's still a hassle in a lot of ways. The more Apple products you buy to replace your non-Apple stuff, the happier you will be (iPod, iPhone, Airport Extreme, etc.), as they are designed to integrate with each other. Apple likes it this way.

I agree with you for the most part but we shouldn't ask for change just for the sake of it.

The only change I would want is the removal of the Superdrive. People still could use the MBAs external Superdrive and it would allow for a thinner design, possibly a mid-level card in the 13" through saved expenses, a second hard drive or a second battery bay.

Yeah, but I'm not sure how I feel about losing my disc drive. I mean, on the one hand, I would definitely love having less weight to carry around, and I don't hardly ever use my disc drive, but the disc utilities that come with the Mac make it pretty darn useful for images, etc. If the external drive were an option, it would have to be included in the box, or come down in price ($100 is silly!)

Not really. First, on laptops, the CPU only supports one slot per memory channel (per Intel). If you build more, Intel wont support it.

Also, by the end of 2010, 4GB SODIMMs will be cheaper than they are now, as new 30nm-class DRAM fabs come online they'll be able to make twice the memory per wafer. So by the end of the year 8GB will be trivial in a laptop like 4GB is now and 16GB in a laptop will be the "high end" configuration.

If you really need the Supersive just take it with you. It weighs less than a pound. With the fact that Apple is not moving to Blu-Ray it negates the use even more.

The price is steep for it but I would rather have the other options I mentioned first before a Superdrive is automatically included. I would much rather have potentially a better graphics card, an extra battery that provides an extra 5-7hrs of battery life or an extra 250GB hard drive.

For this to eventually happen, though, Apple will have to use another option to install OSX such as an SD card.

The 40SP number has been the number on the rumor sites since last Spring. Inq, Fudzilla, etc.

Got a specific link? Don't think I've seen those websites actually state 40SP's...

40SP's is a bit of an odd number from Nvidia's typical numbering of shader parts too, especially when you divide it by TMU's and ROPs since those come tied in ratios

And of course, those website's aren't exactly known for journalistic integrity ;)

I would also prefer to have those things, but I feel that Apple would first aim at slimming down even more... which I don't really care about. I would love to see a RAID'ed SSD MBP though... sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
