It could also be possible that it could have the i5-750 or 750S, which are quad-core chips.

Although, knowing Apple, it'll only be the i5-520 or 540 in the 13.3 and low-end 15.

So would it be worth it to go from the current model 2.53 to the i5? I just bought one for my kid on the 31st for college. It is going to have to last for four years.

while i keep refreshing this page, can anyone possible tell me what a phospholipid and the difference between DNA and RNA?

Ahh, I remember those days of cell and molecular biology... and as always, for these questions wikipedia is your friend. :)

No slip in shipping

I know everyone is excited about a possible update tomorrow, but what about the fact that apple.com shows no delay in shipping? I know before the iMac refresh, Apple started to show a delay in shipping times.

FYI, I am waiting for this refresh, I currently have a MacBook Pro from 2007 that is starting to show its age.

True. I am excited, but I am trying to hold back so I don't become dissapointed.

This wait has been killing me.

Return it, you got 14 days to, you only have to pay a restocking fee.

Yes, usually, but if you purchased between early Nov 09 and Christmas, you had until January 10 to return; plus, you get an additional 2-3 weeks after Apple generates a return label to ship back.

All in all, I've had my macbook for 3 months (purchased Nov), will return this week, and buy a newly updated MBP.

The biggest reason to believe that there is an update is that refurbished MBPs have been reduced to prices that typically last generation refurbished products become. For that reason I think they'll be an update tomorrow.

It would also be nice timing to coincide with Macworld.

wishlist

  • i would like RAM to expand to 16GB as they are on some of the iMacs now
  • i would like the option for a blu-ray optical drive (long shot)
  • i would like the option for an SD slot on the 17 inch models
  • i would like the HDD to reach 1TB (another long shot?)

I sold my 13" MBP (2.26 GHz, retail $1199) on CL for $1000, but that included an $80 RAM upgrade, and that was about a week ago, before these rumors were a little more common.

Where did you buy it? If there's no restocking fee on it, then the obvious answer is DUH. If there is a restocking fee, we'll just have to see which i5 they use, but I would assume the prices may be coming down, too, so it would probably be worth it.

someone just offered me 1000 for mine, i said no. i rather keep this for 4 years+ rather alot of money.

I think 1300 is good price for a macbook pro 15inch late 2009 model thats barely a month old.

16GB memory would require 4 banks, which I doubt they'll do (maybe in the 17" model). Steve Jobs said a few weeks ago that they're not totally against Blu-Ray, but that they'll probably wait to integrate it until the technology isn't such a mess (takes forever to load, the format isn't very popular yet, etc). As for the terabyte, that would require a dual platter at least, and I don't see Apple fattening up their line to support that, although dual drive support would be awesome on the larger sizes (maybe in RAID?)

My (hopefully realistic) hopes and dreams for the refresh:

-Core i5/i7 across the lineup
-updated chipsets/GPUs (maybe an ATI option?)
-IPS panels (if they can fit it in the iPad, they can fit it in a MBP)
-Lower prices (comparable models usually seem to drop $100-$200, from what I've seen in the past)

Also, I'd like a discrete graphics option on the 13". That was the main thing I didn't like about mine - no CoD4! If they hit 2 or 3 of my requests, I'm throwing money down. Otherwise, I may wait for the Core i7 Vaio Z mentioned earlier or something similar (why didn't they do a RAID 5 on it?)

So who is going to post the first blurry cam spy shot of the new models?

Since these will more than likely be just spec bumps here ya go :p

If the MBPs are updated with IPS panels I'm sold.

Well, I'm already sold anyways, but hey.

Which 15" is it? If it's the one that retails for $1699, You'll have a tough time convincing someone after a refresh that a laptop you purchased from eBay is worth $1300, even if it is a MBP. Sell that thing as quickly as you can. But you're right, $1000 is pretty low. If you want to get $1300 for it, ask for $1400. I listed mine for $1050, and I got offers as low as $700. It was in mint condition. Also, keep in mind that once the new ones come out, the old ones will drop in price (usually $100-$150), so people will be comparing your price to these new prices.

Because of the unbearable lateness of Apple I had to trade my old Macbook for a Vaio i'm not so unhappy with.

If it's just a regular casual update ie. they just put in some i5 or worse, i3 and do some minor memory/ram updates of course people will be and should be disapointed, not only because they took TOO long to release new MBP but also given the expensive costs of an MBP it's and investment on 2 or 3 years at least.
However if they do a powerful update, it may be worth it.

By the way everyone's talking tech spechs but do you think there will be a redesign/refinemnent or even maybe make it thinner ?

I don't think so - usually, the design changes come in bunches, with a big redesign. The Unibodys are only 16 months old, so they're about mid-cycle. The SD card additions, with price drops happened 7 months ago. I would bet that the new MBPs will get a new processor (i series), new graphics card (ATI?), and maybe they'll add the MacBook Air-style MagSafe power adapter.

How much would I get on craigslist or ebay for a 15inch 1.67ghz Powerbook G4? To fund my unibody.
