Not at all

me and my wife we have iPhone(s) when there is really a need.

hardly missed the 3G on the iPad.

if 3G comes as a default option (with out the $130 fee) we might have considered using the 3G once in a while.

we just think it is like a computer, if there is a wi-fi we use it other wise we are good with iPhone.

You do not take your iPad on Vacation? I would never leave for any time without taking the laptop and iPad. 3G saved my sanity while out and about for a week.
Funny you ask this ... we actually haven't been on vacation for a few years, so no, we don't take the iPad on vacation. Incidentally, we're going on a cruise in the summer. We're taking the iPad and a laptop. The ship has wifi, so 3G won't be needed.

No, because I have my I phone for 3G and most of the places I use the iPad have WIFI anyway.

The places that I do need 3G though, I'll just use a WIFI hotspot on my iPhone.

No regrets and have had several wifi only iPads. I have a Verizon MiFi and this is far more versatile and can provide WiFi for myself and several colleagues or family members simultaneously.

If I were solo all the time, a 3G or LTE equipped iPad may be useful but I suspect I'd still go the MiFI route.

never an issue for me. Always have wifi at home and at work. Everywhere else, just used my iPhone.

I do take my iPad with me just about everywhere, but do not always need internet access. Reading a book in iBooks or Kindle is just as rewarding. <sarcasm>

Big huge issue for me. I had 3G on my original iPad. I thought I really didn't need it for the iPad 2 and ordered wi-fi only. I figured I could use my LTE hotspot from Verizon....It never worked when I needed it and it was a pain to have to carry around the extra device. I canceled the Verizon account with the hotspot and there is no way I would ever buy another iPad without the 3G (LTE) or whatever else they have.

I know variations of this question have been asked frequently around here, so I might as well just ask my specific question...

Have you ever regretted not adding the 3g when purchasing your iPad?

Since purchasing your iPad, how many times have you desperately needed 3g and not had it? Thanks.

I would only get the 3G version because of the GPS. The Wifi Doesn't have GPS.

Those who have the option of tethering from their phones most likely will purchase the wifi-only iPad. Those who purchased the wifi-only iPad have tethered from their phone, according to the replies.

Has this helped the OP any? Does he or she have the option to tether and/or are there readily available wifi hotspots where they live? Do they need to be connected at all times?

It may have been more conducive to ask 3G owners.

For me, the biggest issue with tethering is the atrocious battery life on my iPhone 4S. Already horrendous as is, don't need to compound the problem with tethering. I never worry about my iPad's battery life, even with 3G on.

There are also more and more apps that use location services and not for navigation purposes.

Tried wifi-only for both the iPad 1 and 2. Both times I returned them and got the 3G. Use the 3G all the time and it's been quite useful.

Never regretted wifi only. But I do have a phone to fill the Internet on the go "needs."

I'm seriously considering an ipad3 with 3g etc. i had the ipad 1 just wifi and the 2 just wifi but recent long power failures from hurricane irene and that crazy late october snowstorm makes want to able to get on line in an emergecy situation. I will get it just for insurance.

Quite the opposite experience for me. The Samsung 4G/LTE hotspot has been very reliable and I haven't experienced any "pain" carrying around a 2.5"x.25" device that weighs three ounces. Nevertheless, I always allow for different experiences depending on one's use, location, etc for these kinds of devices.

Not sure what I'll do when my contract for the hotspot expires later this year. I now have a Droid Razr Maxx 4G/LTE phone with an unlimited data plan and a battery life that lasts easily for 36-48 hours with heavy use. Even with the drain of tethering I expect it would outlast even an iPad with 4G.

I got a 3G iPad 1, and never needed/wanted the 3G, so when I got an iPad 2 I got a wifi only one, I've never regretted it. I usually only ever want to use my iPad in places where there's wifi eg at home, staying at people houses, in hotels, on trains.

No regrets at all. Leave the iPad 2 at home and always have my iPhone 4 in my pocket. I'm not going to pay for 3G for 2 devices, not jail breaking either.

At first i figured i wouldn't use the 3g (since i figured i would just use it at home since i used to take the MBA with me on the road) so i bought the wifi version. Turned out that the wifi in my university is extremely slow and even more spotty from my iPad that on the MBA by a lot (to the point is almost useless in more than half of the faculty). Regardless i liked the iPad better as it did everything i needed the MBA to do for me on the road, so i started leaving the MBA at home and bringing the iPad instead. Also at first i had an iPhone 4 from which i tethered from (raping the battery in the process) and it was ok besides this. However i sold my phone a while back and decided to try to go phone-less, and without a 3g enabled iPad thats not gonna work out well at all.

So in summary it all depends on what u end up using the iPad for, and how well is the wifi coverage in the places u frequent. Also keep in mind that those needs might shift once u start using the product. For me 3g/4g iPad all the way since it will fulfill most/all of my mobile needs.

I always planned on getting the wifi model when I finally got an iPad. Now that I'm ready to buy one, I am going to spend the extra for a cellular capability. I am not positive if I will use it, but I won't let myself regret not getting it after the fact!

Also, it will come with GPS ;)

The last year has been the worst. Wifi is terrible where ever I go. But I am holding out for LTE. Not to mention alot of hotels are starting to charge for wifi or have free wifi for AT&T customers only.

I'm happy w my wifi only. I was afraid I might regret it but I found it surprising that everywhere has wifi. If I can't connect, I just use my iPhone. I find that if I would be traveling I'm not needing to spend large amounts of time web browsing bc I am on the go. I only need quick email use which my iPhone can do.

I spent all my money on the iPad. Now I have no money to fuel my Learjet where I was going to use my 3G service to take those lovely vacation pictures Apple always uses for advertisements.
So, yeah, I'm still happy I skipped the 3G upgrade. But when I become a jet setter I will upgrayyd.
