I am the only one who has had a decent PC Currys/PC World in town? I brought my laptop with insurance (it was a pc as that was all I could afford) and I dropped it down the stairs in school by-accident (I was carrying it when someone bumped me) - completely smashed and broken - they replaced it for nothing with no questions asked...For anyone who is thinking of purchasing an Apple Watch from Currys/PC World (or ANYTHING for that matter)-prepare yourself for a world of pain and some of THE most atrocious customer service you will ever endure.
Seriously, these guys are the dregs. The staff are clearly paid next to nothing and treated like dirt, they know nothing about the product(s) you enquire about and all they are there to do is "shift boxes" by pointing you at wherever device will earn them the most commission that day.
If there was ever a way for Apple to devalue the Apple/Watch "Experience", selling in C/PCW is it.
You have been warned...
I'm not mistaken as I've got to know the Apple guy in my local Currys store. He works for Apple, he has told me he works for Apple and his business card confirms it. He was previously based in the Best Buy store across the road and when they went bust Apple transferred him to the Currys store.
thats like saying wait for the iphone 7Why? Surely at this point wait for the Watch 2...
I guess it comes to whose lies you think are true. The question was asked on where the source of the 3 million (the article says 3.6 million) came from, and there it is. I figured that the LA Times at least has to make an attempt at telling the truth, but that's a different argument. It does seem that no matter what is said, there will be either an attempt to question the messenger or the message. Not much there, except lying about the negative reviews (its the segment itself that gets a mixed review, not the watch whose reviews have been generally pretty positive), piling on more FUD on the numbers and then saying that's IDC equally unsubstantiated numbers somehow proves that Apple is not doing as bad as those fake rumors (hey, we've got the best fake numbers...). Oh, they threw in bone with his "meets expectations" quote and then let the IDC guy continue selling his crap.
The end is mildly positive to Apple, but the initial setup premise in the article garbage and shouldn't even have been reported; and that's coming from a major newspaper. No wonder trash heap reporting sites like The Verge broadcast FUD all day long.
That's too bad about Tim. He is one of my favorite actors with his wit and biting sarcasm. He is a joy to watch on screen.Since you bring Frankie up, the 40th anniversary of Rocky is next month in New York. The movie actors for Colombia, Magenta and Brad will be there. Been told Tim Curry in poor health and may show unannounced considering how he is doing.
Smart people wouldn't get their Apple Watch from Currys / PC World...
That's the Merry Hell branch, right? Had a long chat with the same bloke while Best Buy was still kicking around (worse service than Currys, friendly enough but completely clueless) and can vouch for the fact that he was an Apple employee.
Probably a damn site better than currys/PCWImagine what will happen when Walmart starts selling it....
Can I point out that having worked in Currys PC World a few years ago that a lot of this pressure comes down to management at a regional level pressuring store managers into pushing these targets to staff members? Some stores a hell hole to work in at times. However, some stores are actually okay, it really does depend on the attitude of store management. When I was there this seemed to determine what level of service you got. And where I worked this also changed whenever management changed.
Saying that, the Apple concession staff there were always Apple trained and were not pressurised by these targets (as they worked for Apple, not Currys)
Just because the watch is sold in these stores does not in any way devalue the watch at all. Apple staff would more than likely deal with all watch sales, most of which will own an Apple watch themselves.
Is it getting desperate selling iphones in other stores other than the apple store too then? you are seriously making zero sense.Wow Apple is getting desperate to shore up Apple watch sales figures.
It won't be too long I think until we see an Apple watch being included free with KFC's 16 piece family bucket meal.
Though Angela will probably insist the chicken meal/watch be bought by appointment only...
I saw the same thing in the Apple Store near me, it felt uncomfortable having so much empty space, I was scheduling a meeting , but first time I felt that vibe. I wonder if the watches might affect other products, I immediately wanted to leave, of course I stayed waiting for the appointment, but it didn't feel like the usual vibe I got in previous occasions.Oh it's great that another UK retailer will be carrying this. That means customers will finally be able to get a better chance look at it because it's always so crowded at the Apple store...
Oh wait...

I took that photo a couple days ago at my local Apple store. Both those two tables in the middle are the Watch displays. It's like that every time I go past - no one looking at the watches. I watch people walk in and sort of pause while glancing at it, sometimes not even fully turning towards it, some will bend over and casually toy with it for maybe 15-25 seconds and then they walk over to the computers.

The thing is, as you alluded to, only Apple knows how many are sold, so whether it's a flop or not is entirely up to you and your perceptions. I know at least 23 are, as that's how many I've seen in the wild. Anyway, a project of this magnitude isn't going away after the first generation. I think if it did, Tim Cook would be next. If the first generation needs fine tuning, or gross tuning, then they take those ideas back to the designers and make it happen. This isn't making pancakes on Sunday morning; this is a multimillion dollar project that is there to make money. The PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) process is in full form at Apple, I suppose. Cases in point (and the hew and cry from the gallery):
1. Apple Watch only available online, and you have to try it on at the store. (WHAT???!! I want to line up and buy one TODAY! Can't Apple get it's stuff together???)
2. Apple Watch only available at the Apple Store and online at Apple.com (WHAT??!!! I have to walk 945 miles barefoot on broken glass uphill in a desert to get to an Apple Store! And, when I get there, they only have the one I don't want! Apple Stinks!)
3. Apple Watch is available at limited Best Buy stores and the Apple Store (WHAT??!! Apple must be really desperate to have those jerks at Best Buy selling these.)
4. Apple Watch is available at all Best Buy, Currys, and the Apple Store (WHAT??!! I hate Currys, and their people are soooooooo pushy about the extended warranties!)
When people ask me (usually clerks at stores when I use Apple Pay) about it, I just say it's the coolest purchase I've made in a while. I've talked with companies that interface with the watch (including my bank), and have given them suggestions that they think are "pretty cool!". I hope that Dexcom takes my suggestion to add a blood glucose complication to the watch, so I can see what my blood sugar is when I check the time. We'll see what happens with WatchOS2.

That may be the case, but not always, it seems. There's a thread on a different forum where the guy bought his MBP from PC World and was told he could have more RAM installed for £80. (Never got a reply to say how it turned out)
Clearly (hopefully) not an Apple staff member.
Huh, I was thinking Croydon Purley Way because we also had a best Buy across the road from a PC World and Currys. That's the one.
My local Currys has a huge Apple section and YES the staff work for Apple! Why are people moaning? You don't have to deal with Currys after purchase, just take it to an Apple Store?!?
Huh, I was thinking Croydon Purley Way because we also had a best Buy across the road from a PC World and Currys.
Didn't read that, my bad! (And I don't actually know where the Black Country is anyway).Unless Croydon somehow picked itself up and plonked itself down in the Black Country as per OllyW's location I am not sure why you would have thought that. Most branches of Best Buy were cheek by jowl with Currys/PCW due to the size of the stores as these favoured retail parks.
Apple is making it quite clear to everyone they don't care who sells their magical watch-thing.
I think its just peoples views on the general experience of shopping there, rather than the Apple aspect. Shops like this are fine if you know exactly what you want, can find it without asking, and get through the till without being badgered for an extended warranty.
The moment you need help and advice though, most people seem to have a pretty awful experience there.
(And I don't actually know where the Black Country is anyway).
