For some reason the number pad on the phone really bothers me. I really don't use it that much and it's not the end of the world but it is so darn ugly.

I think it's more of the principle. I've come to rely on (and brag about) Apple's taste in design. This number pad is a horrific display of 1998 Windows baby blue crap that is just completely out of place. Honestly, whoever designed this should be fired.

I totally agree. First time I opened it was like "ugh"

The maps is a bit of a let down, but realistically its only missing streetview which I never used anyway....

apart from that overall it seems better, it certainly runs better, ios 5 always crashed and stalled for me.

No, is not only missing street view, maybe in your country...

Searching for an address, at least here in my city and country is terrible. The maps are not updated, so they are not very reliable. You can not compare the level of commitment Google has towards mapping than what Apple might do.

Not happy at all and I have been a loyal iPhone user since day one. Each one got better. This one not so much.

On my 4S...

Maps hasn't failed me once in the month or so i've been using it. Sat Nav has been perfect.

App store its smooth like before.

So far for me its been a great update. Its not all bad.

I think everything else EXCEPT the mapping solution is a step forward.....

But Apple Maps is very very poor. I hope they throw a huge pile of cash at it fast...........

As I've said elsewhere, the really sad and upsetting thing about this (and I do mean upsetting!) is that you can't fix maps fast, not with all the money in the world. It's gonna take years to get it to where google maps are now.

People complained about losing the YouTube app? That application was the worst application ever. It didn't even work half the time and you could barley even see your subscribers. It's about time that app was either updated or removed. The YouTube app in the App store is much much better.

My main gripe is with Passbook... I mean, it's shockingly bad compared to what they showed off at the keynote. It's not AT ALL what I was expecting.

Why would I have to download the Target app to use the Target Passbook??
Why would I have to open any sort of SMS link?
Why do I have to do research on google so I can figure out how to add a Target Passbook?

It should be:
-Select Passbook from a list
-Sign in to loyalty program FROM the passbook app
-Auto pull down your card and shopper history

Why can't it be that easy??

And starbucks? You showed it off at the keynote.. hell, it's being shown off RIGHT NOW on apple.com! Where is it?? In fact, where are half of the Passbooks shown at the keynote (and on apple.com, right now).

I think the entire OS update is the worst Apple has ever pushed out.
I downgraded back to iOS 5.

Passbook is basically an API with its own UI. It depends on 3rd parties to work. Now, if the 3rd parties demand you use their app (instead of providing a link on your account page on their website), demand that you accept texts from them (instead of just adding the wallet items), and so on... that's a bad use of the API by the 3rd party.

Anything that requires 3rd party integration, is prone to the 3rd party screwing it up and making the experience bad. I sold my first iPad because of that, since the things I wanted to work required 3rd party apps that sucked.

The upgrade seems fine to me, but where I am Maps is better than the error-ridden Google maps. I guess overall I see much more potential, by app developers are going to have to catch up and people are going to have to help Apple identify bugs in maps (just like they do for Google maps).

In general, I'm really pleased with iOS 6 - things like Shared PhotoStreams, Do Not Disturb and Panoramic photos are great. I find it faster than 5 on my 4S, Siri is better in the UK than it was. Getting rid of YouTube was a good move as Google have filled the void with a far better App.

However, Maps is a massive step backwards and is next to useless across huge areas of the globe. Unfortunately, maps is also a core system service (via Map Kit) so will also affect a lot of 3rd Party apps and even if Google release a standalone app, it's not going to fix things for those 3rd party apps.

I'm sure that, given time, they'll be great but my view is they should have waited until it was a bit more complete before dumping it on millions of users

I am very happy with it, and I dont even have all the features as I still am with 4. I do have an upgrade do now, but I am holding out for now. I kinda like being off contract.

I haven't had a chance to play with ios 6 yet, but everyone needs to remember is is catered toward the new phone. It is slow on your iphone 4 and 4s because it is meant to be used on the iphone 5, which is supposedly going to be immensely faster. As far as maps, its just a beta version, so it will be improving. Other than that, I get my 5 tomorrow so I will report back on the other stuff.

The funny thing is people that never really used the map apps are the ones crying about it the most.

For some, that might be all it is missing. But for many more it is missing most features. Plus the accuracy as many have shown is way off for a lot of things - accuracy is king for a maps app.

I've been generally happy with iOS 6. I've been running it for quite a while. Although the new maps isn't as good as the old maps I love the addition of turn by turn navigation. I'll also love Siri on my iPad. Generally it's been a very stable release for me.

Well it doesn't come as a surprise, but there is an overwhelming amount of dislike for iOS6, ranging from disappointment in the new maps, to the deleted YouTube app, to the slow App Store, and other issues.

As for me, I tried the GM last week and was very disappointed, so downgraded back to iOS5 and am more than happy. For me, I just need reliable maps, as I assume others do too.

I know this is said a lot and most of the times I think it's idiotic, I really believe if Steve were still in charge HE WOULD NOT have allowed Maps in its current state to market, Maps one day can be a superb product but at the moment it's inferior to the previous maps on the phone. YOU SHOULD never provide an inferior product to customers, they're going to hate it.

And before all of you insult and name call, I'm a huge Apple fan, who has rarely been critical in the past, in fact I loathe irrational hate of their products, but in my opinion my criticsm is totally warranted.

I'd appreciate your thoughts! :)

Honestly I have a hard time engaging in any discussion that says 'Steve would never have allowed this.' You don't know what he was thinking, or would be thinking today. You also don't know if he started or was overseeing all or most of the changes we are now experiencing. If you want a thoughtful discussion, I'd recommend just not ever saying this again! It's infuriating

You're right. It is idiotic to say this. Memories are short. Remeber this disaster that occurred while Steve was still in charge?

The bottom line is that companies go out on a limb from time to time to push a new initiative forward. Siri is one of those things. It's beta, it's not fully baked, but it still is cutting-edge in many ways and does have plenty of usefulness and wow factor.

Maps is the same. Unfortunately, those of us who jumped into iOS 6 had to give something up to do so (integrated Google Maps) and we have a right to be upset, but at the same time I expect that in a few months this maps situation will be far better.

The funny thing is people that never really used the map apps are the ones crying about it the most.

Just because many of us never used the map app for directions doesn't mean we never used it.

I regularly use a bunch of fitness apps to map, track my progress, and share/ compare with my friends. Not the most helpful anymore when the maps are outdated and don't fully make sense.

If I need to tell someone where I am, I could (in the past) open the map app, center it on myself, drop a pin and have an accurate address. Nearly every time I've tried it with the new maps, it's (if I'm lucky) a few hundred feet off.

As far as maps, its just a beta version, so it will be improving.

People are upset because we had a fully working version a day ago.... which we lost and had no choice but to drop for their beta.

Of course, Maps isn't the only issue... when they announced iOS6, they had 2 huge presentations - one for Maps and another showing off Passbook.

It's a shame they couldn't get EITHER of them working properly at launch.

THE BIG difference is Mobile Me wasn't replacing anything, it's not like they forced you into using their email.

For me iOS6 is a nice little update, nothing major but just that little more polished. Maybe we should all remember that its a freebie!

Ive paid £20 each time to update my Macbook to lion and mountain lion and each time have been left wondering why as in the same way there arent any massive changes, an imessage here and a launchpad there. At least with iOS its free.

youtube is gone, but the stand alone app is nicer. lots of little tweaks to make my 4s feel new again and safari feels a little quicker too.

As for maps, in terms of a map its much faster. POIs arent up to google, but even theirs used to be a bit out in a lot of occasions. the 3d city rendering is nice. But for me, as many have said it is a step back. the loss of stree view is a major drawback, and the aerial photography seems much lower res, albeit with what look like much more recent images, in my areas at least. Though if google could bring out their own app, (though if apple have binned them from the os i wonder if they will), then all would be ok again.

So for a freebie i'm glad i upgraded. if i'd had to pay for it it might have been a different matter.

...and those stalking the postman or waiting on line tomorrow for their new iPhone 5? I wouldn't say that iOS6 is free for them.

That said, it shouldn't matter if it's free or not. It's clearly unpolished in many areas and we, as customers, shouldn't be forced into beta testing it... especially when certain things worked better before hand.
