The new maps are not great. I grant you that. However they are being mercilessly slammed far beyond their actual problems. Like everything else else Apple, they will soon be the best map app anywhere. Just hold your horses. Meanwhile they work fine, but need to be better.

Overall the iOS6 is well worth the upgrade. I'm using it on a 4s until my 5 arrives later today...yahooooo!

On the other hand, I'm going to put off getting an IPhone 5 because of ios6.

The problem of apple with iOS 6 is that some people can't find a reason to upgrade.
There are people happy with iOS 5 and they don't use facebook, don't need a new maps (google maps is almost perfect) and they maybe 1 or 2 features out of 200! apply to them.

not to mention the ipod touch users and the iPad 2 users. I'm not sure what they going to get there.
Passbook - Ok they will get it, how often they will use it ?
SMS @ Call ? - No they don't have calls
DND mode - who needs it on those devices ?
Facebook integration - well we could always live without it.
Clock app- I think thats the only reason and that is a weak one.

So apple said 200 features but most people will see 1 or 2.

I've got google street view on my iPad 3 running 5.1.1

Learn something new every day. Looks like it is not as convenient as street view in their browser based map, but it is there. Strange I never noticed it before.

Athough street view to me is a bit of a gimmick; I really find the aerial birds-eye type view that bing maps has more useful. Wish google didthat since they have better maps.

Of course, now I wish that Apple did the google mapping....

:D

Harsh but true.

Apple really shouldn't have released this map app the way it is. Earlier on just out of curiousity I searched for directions to a College about 5 minutes away from my house and it lead me about 10 miles in the wrong direction to some boat place.

Post a picture of your general area so we can compare...

I prefer not to give my exact location away (and also I no longer have Google's iOS app since I upgraded), but suffice it to say that Google maps is far from perfect. Examples: We started getting people driving up on our street looking for a hotel. It was 40 miles away. One day I realized this might be because of mapping error in Google maps. Sure enough when I checked there was an error. I reported it, but it took about 6 months for Google to correct it. Right now Google lists a bus stop a block from me as a hotel. The road on which my ex lives wasn't on Google maps for years because it was a new development. As I have said elsewhere in MR, I like Google maps and I would use a Google Map app if it were offered. However, I like Apple's map app because for my purposes it seems to be better than the old app based on Google. To each their own.

I agree that the maps app needs some work but thankfully I never used the other maps app much.

For the most part I'm ok with iOS6 but a few changes have me scratching my head.

The new App Store hasn't crashed on me yet and I love how you are not kicked out to the main screen when you download or update an app. I also like that you don't have to enter your password for updates or re-downloading previously deleted apps. What I can't understand is the change to searching; how could anyone anywhere, much less at Apple, think that seeing one search result at a time was a good idea. If I did a search in iOS 5 that returned 1,000 apps I would sometimes scroll through a few hundred of them. Now, after looking at about 15 apps I'm done, then I realized there is no quick way back to first result. Just a lazy design IMO.

Overall the music changes don't bother me except the fact that you can no longer delete songs or albums with iTunes Match turned on. I don't understand why this features was removed, is Apple really that offended that I like to manage my on music. LOL at everyone saying that Match is a true streaming service now, it's not and it is not that hard to prove. Yes, when you click on a song it starts playing, streamed from the cloud but, it is also being downloaded to your phone in the background and is not removed when you are done with it. Don't believe me, play the first 10 seconds of 50 songs, then go to Settings - General - Usage and see how much space your music is now taking up. That's right, it's the same amount as it would have been in iOS 5, nothing has changed in this respect. Only now, you can't remove those songs if you decided you no longer want them stored on your phone, not without turning Match off. Of course, when you turn Match back on you have to wait the 10 to 20 minutes it takes for it to rebuild your library, again. The removal of the ability to delete music seriously has me reconsidering letting my Match subscription renew next month.

maps work good for me, app stores not slow, youtube app was such trash anyway.

sucks to be the one who's **** dont work :p

I've only used the new Apple Maps once, but they took me where I needed to go. What does irritate me is that my iPhone 4 doesn't do turn-by-turn. I understand that Siri is never coming to iPhone 4 -- and that's fine. But why can't the Maps app automatically advance to the next direction as I drive? It knows my location, it knows I turned where it told me to, what's the big technological issue with advancing to the next direction?

Also the battery life is horrendous. Where I used to be able to eek out about 2 days, today it was dead by 5pm.

Does anyone like fluidity of the maps app? It seems to scroll and and zoom nicer than google maps. Hate how theres no native bus routes....

iOS 6 is the worst thing ive experienced in a while.

This may be enough to turn me completely away from Apple.

iOS 5 was excellent. Now half of my apps (literally) do not work. They force close and just stop functioning when they were just fine before this update.

Words cant describe how disappointed I am.

If half your apps are crashing I'd be curious to see what the authors are doing about it. It's their role to release compatible updates. I've had no less than 25 updates in two days. Even right now 6 more are coming down.

Im still having issues with Safari freezing up on my iPad 2 and 4s. Seems to happen mainly when I open Safari and I want to type an address in the address bar. There is no cursor and screen is unresponsive. Another time is when I'm typing, like now. Cursor will stop flashing, screen and keyboard are unresponsive.
Only thing to do is close Safari completely down and open it back up.
Started with ios 6. Used update for iPad and restore for 4s to get ios 6.

Don't you think the creation of apps that are compatible with iOS 6 are the responsibility of the developers?

It's ironic, that iOS 6, and the kludge that is iMaps, is the main thing that's keeping me away from the iPhone 5.

. For me, I just need reliable maps, as I assume others do too.

I know this is said a lot and most of the times I think it's idiotic, I really believe if Steve were still in charge HE WOULD NOT have allowed Maps in its current state to market, Maps one day can be a superb product but at the moment it's inferior to the previous maps on the phone. YOU SHOULD never provide an inferior product to customers, they're going to hate it.

And if map is the only issue you have, you can pin map.google.com on your Safari home page and you have your google map today one push of button away from your home screen..

The IOS 6 Map is an unfinished product. But Steve may have to do it too. I think a general user don't understand the current patent war between Google/Motorola/Apple/MSFT/Samsung/HTC on Android. This is a good site to understand the patent war that is going on..

http://www.fosspatents.com/

In Iphone 5, Apple is moving away from using as much Samsung semi-conductor as they can. And they are doing the same from Google on the software side. I think it is a calculated decision to take away the final leverage that Google has on Apple ecosystem as Apple just add Jelly Bean into the Samsung patent infringement lawsuit. Apple no doubt will loss some customer because of the decision. But in a few months, after majority of the map problem get fix user will drift back. In the mean time, you can always use google map in Safari...

Totally.

iOS6 is the most underwhelmed iOS update for me. There are 200 new features been added, according to Apple. But overall they are not very notable during daily operation. Except Maps, of course, it's notably poor compared to previous version.
