iOS 6 is a decent update but they really dropped the ball in a few areas.

1) Apple maps

Just leave Google maps on there and add Apple maps when its ready ffs!

2) App store

Nobody wants to browse the app store, one app at a time. How did nobody at Apple realise this was stupid? Not only were they testing it themselves, but they must have looked at feedback from the betas. It's a stupid feature. End of.

3) Lack of consistency / unnecessary features.

Though the colour matching status bar looks good in some cases, its a completely pointless feature in the end. It serves absolutely no purpose and it doesn't even work with all their apps. Why even bother?? The new appearance of the music app is also pretty stupid. Not only does the silver/white theme look tacky and cheap, but they couldn't even bothered to make the other screens match, for example Cover Flow still has a black background and the now playing screen also has a black colour scheme. Seems Apple have forgotten all their design skills.

These sort of mistakes make Apple look as though they are lacking leadership. It's like nobody's there to demand perfection anymore.

...and those stalking the postman or waiting on line tomorrow for their new iPhone 5? I wouldn't say that iOS6 is free for them.

That said, it shouldn't matter if it's free or not. It's clearly unpolished in many areas and we, as customers, shouldn't be forced into beta testing it... especially when certain things worked better before hand.

It would've been nice to have a choice of which map client to use, but I am sure that would've created all sorts of headaches.

Guess my only disappointment is that iTunes Match still doesn't steam from iOS devices. But meh. I've been happy with it since last December despite the lack of this feature.

Music Match streams perfectly fine for me, I don't know what you are talking about.

Bottom line you always have those that complain, bitch, whine.. its nothing new! Maps are different and the fact is Google has a 10 year head start. Apple will get this down and all this will be a faded memory. I really don't think Apple had any choice, but to move forward with their own maps. Everyone acts as if Apple just pulled the maps and didn't have too. They did have too they no longer had a license to use them.

Didn't Apple advertise iTunes match streaming in June?

well...The App store is working perfectly for me:cool:

Really? You don't find it sluggish?

Coming from 5.1.1 jailbroken the only thing I really miss was quick reply from BiteSMS. Every update I hope they'll add timestamps to all messages option, having to delete texts to see the time one was sent is annoying. I think we should be able to delete stock apps too. Newsstand is useless to me as is stocks, weather (still want it to show on the lock screen), contacts (in the phone menu), game center and videos.

I personally like the new maps.
It's easier for me to see where things are and read street names. Never used street view so that's not missed.
Turn by turn is pretty cool. Not really any traffic data yet for my area, guess we have to wait till more people are on iOS6.
No problems with it showing my location somewhere else..used to always happen in Google maps..but I need to use it more to make sure. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the icon is of Apple's address.

Panorama pictures are cool. I figured out if you try to move around an object it will just take a picture, was hoping I could make the object look really long.

I noticed the status bar color changes. I like it.

The phone's dial pad is different. I can't say it's better/worse than the old way.

App Store is different. I like it. I do wish they would have it so when you go landscape mode it would change and show more apps. I don't download apps too often so it's not that big of a deal.

The music app is different too. I want to say it's easier for me to use but not exactly sure yet. For some reason I think the music sounds better but I know it's just in my head. I wish when you tapped the play icon on the status bar a quick option menu would pop up with previous/pause/next/shuffle..faster than hitting the home button..

I like the new emoji for texting.

Safari seems faster. They should change the status bar to match it like they did with other things. I'd like full screen mode for it in portrait mode.

I like some of the new settings options. Do not disturb is cool. Would be nice if you could set up schedules by location too.

Glad they got rid of the YouTube app. The one from Google is much better. Before I could never find a popular video I was searching for now it functions more like the website. And it looks better.

I wish they changed the calculator to match other color changes.

I still would like it to show the date in the status bar. Like "9/20 - 1:11PM"

I don't like how Reminders shows the # badge for things that have already passed. I have some reoccurring events and they are all marked red.

All of my apps work minus a flash light one. I'm sure it will be updated soon though.

I still hate spotlight and page dots.

This happens with every software release. People always balk at the unfamiliar.

Personally, I'm quite pleased with it.

Really? Because this is the first time I've ever been unhappy and gone back to the old version.

As a new release, there is always going to be something(s) that people are not going to like. Overall, I like iOS 6 better than iOS 5 but there is room for improvement and Apple will fix the problems that are being found. Could Apple have done better - Yes they should have but I will bet that with the release of the iPhone 5 the software engineers had to release iOS 6 before they wanted.

Maps will be improved, newer maps will replace the out of date maps. Will Apple's Maps be better than Google's one day? I think Apple is going to work it out and make the improvements needed.

So lets wait, let Apple know what problems we are seeing, and wait for the updates to occur.

Forget the maps, why not the simple things like full screen safari for iPad? That way youtube on the iPad would be useable through safari, instead of a total pain in the arse.

It's odd to see apple make such a balls up of an iOS release.

The upgrade seems fine to me, but where I am Maps is better than the error-ridden Google maps. I guess overall I see much more potential, by app developers are going to have to catch up and people are going to have to help Apple identify bugs in maps (just like they do for Google maps).

Post a picture of your general area so we can compare. Google used to use a lot of teleatlas data then departed and have been getting better much faster. The apple data from teleatlas for my area is the exact same data my tom tom had 5 years ago.

Look up Grand Oaks Ct, Abingdon, MD on both. That Ct is 7 years old! I was driving by it looking at my iPhone saying wtf. My Garmin even has that. Just compare the POI in the area. Its just bad. The POI on the Apple map are WAY off and most are non existent....

Besides other things, the App Store is just unbearable!
It's laggy as hell and it crashes all the time! It kicked me out at least 6-7 times.
I'm using the new iPad. So it should work fine, but it doesn't.
I prefer the old one much more.

Maps and Youtube won't be included because of the company's cooperation with Google. That's understandable. But please make an usable Maps application.
This fancy 3D one is right now worthless. We cannot turn off the 3D feature even if you look directly from above. It's still 3D. I miss the aerial photographs from Google.

"iOS needs a change." (Apple changes things) "I don't like the change"... This is what people said/say. Not pointing at you specifically, but it's just not cool. Who cares if you don't like it, if your really adamant about it then switch. I for one don't like the new store layout either... But on my developer account I got a message stating that they are cracking down on apps... No more duplicates, no more uncreative apps, no more garbage... So give it time and they will fix the store.

The new App Store was unusable for me on iOS6.
Downgraded to iOS5 and I'm now happy again :)

I think I am going to hold off on upgrading my ipad to ios6 until Apple approves/adds Google maps app in their app store .... and until there are a few ios6+ bug fix & enhancement releases.

It's not the unfamiliarity that is the issue, it is the degradation of usability, stability, reliability, and performance in some of the core iOS features.

I've been running iOS6 for months. It has always been very stable, reliable and performs well. So right off the bat I'm not sure where you're coming from. It does sound like the sky is falling mentality. Folks don't like the new maps, therefore everything is bad. Its interesting to watch.

For the record, I'm not one of those people are whe are always asking for iOS to change. My attitude is usually, if its not broken, don't fix it. But if you are going to change things, at least put some effort into it. Theres really no excuse for the lack of consistency through the OS, some things still have the old blue/grey colour scheme, others have black and white, the music app has this tacky new silver theme but still have a black now playing screen. This is just lazy design. As for "who cares if I don't like it", I'm sorry but I'm a consumer so Apple better care if I don't like it. And no I don't want to switch to Android, I think it sucks. I prefer iOS because of its simplicity and good design, things Apple are slowly ruining.

Wasn't a massive user of the old Google maps anyway and i use the TomTom app for navigation. I'm sure in time Apple Maps will be excellent.

My main gripe is the App Store now, such a chore...gone are the days of just browsing every section when bored waiting somewhere.

I think everything else EXCEPT the mapping solution is a step forward.....

But Apple Maps is very very poor. I hope they throw a huge pile of cash at it fast...........

+1, No street View... no party. I find sad, as it previously happened with Adobe Flash, to see people posting "they never used street view" and trying to convince others that it is not useful, just to support Apple maps. Come on... Street View is on the best features ever created for Internet and as far as i know, Apple doesn't have cars taking pictures of cities all around the world, so i'm gonna stick with ios 5. New maps app with no street view is a huge Fail.

I notice the three things Apple are trumpeting about in their Press Statement regarding maps are "...3-D Flyover, Siri-integration and turn-by-turn".

Three things which are, of course, completely unavailable if you are using an iPhone 4!

I'm personally not bothered about flashy 3-D views, or turn-by-turn navigation - I don't drive that much, and my car has a factory sat-nav system.

What I want - or should I say, what I want *back* is an accurate map that I can view on my iPhone 4 when I'm in an area I'm visiting, and need to find something, like maybe a particular store, or address, and get map directions to that.

For anyone to argue that iOS6's maps aren't a serious retrograde step on the iPhone4 is missing the point - not everyone has (or wants!) the latest iPhone - there is a hugely established user base of 3GS and 4 users who have had their Maps experience ruined.

It's all very well Apple saying "look at these new features" - all we want is the functionality they've taken away to come back!

The new maps are not great. I grant you that. However they are being mercilessly slammed far beyond their actual problems. Like everything else else Apple, they will soon be the best map app anywhere. Just hold your horses. Meanwhile they work fine, but need to be better.

Overall the iOS6 is well worth the upgrade. I'm using it on a 4s until my 5 arrives later today...yahooooo!

I haven't had a chance to play with ios 6 yet, but everyone needs to remember is is catered toward the new phone. It is slow on your iphone 4 and 4s because it is meant to be used on the iphone 5, which is supposedly going to be immensely faster. As far as maps, its just a beta version, so it will be improving. Other than that, I get my 5 tomorrow so I will report back on the other stuff.

It doesn't slow down the iPhone 4 or 4S. It's meant to be used on all the supported iPhones, not just the 5.
