Anybody in Chicago has experience of waiting in line on launch day without reservation? Was thinking about going to the Michigan Ave store around 6-6.30am, any chance or should I go there earlier?

Not enough techno-lust to get me out there. As a mater of fact, not enough interest to even click 'buy now'.

Still like to come here though :D

No seriously, I'll get the 11, but i'm in no hurry. I did order the Watch though :)

I thought that by 2019 these iPhone lines would be history. Apparently not. 😋

So you actually thought '2019'. When did you have this premonition? Seems kind of specific :D

And folks, before I think 'Apple fans', I'm wondering how many people are scalpers. Scalping actually makes sense. Anything else, less so.

OR OR OR, if you dont want to wait... you could just order one from Best Buy for store pickup tomorrow. They still have pre-orders for launch day.

Holy sheeeet that's hilarious. You're right, I just checked my local best buy and they have the exact one I bought (green pro max 256) available for pickup tomorrow. Ha!

Congrats on wasting around 1-2 days for your new phone, which everybody else got at the same time as you.

Difference is... at the end of the day, these people will still just have an iPhone. The same as anyone who pre-ordered. No extras. No perks. Just a phone.

Nowadays, waiting in line for days just makes absolutely no sense. Just order it online.

I have a feeling these people are not part of the "Preordered online for release day delivery/pickup" crowd.

In that case, if you do want an iphone on release day, being the first often helps. Sometimes you're not the only one and a line forms.

I really wanted to pre-order but I want to see the green in person before I make a decision...I’m loving ios13 on my 256gb X so far so, I’ll just stop in tomorrow or nxt week and check em out then upgrade...definitely will be a pro max, just gotta decide on color

kinda weird. I used to go to gamestop launch parties years ago because my local GS at the time had drinks, snacks, prizes, etc. for the big titles (last big one was GTA 4, yes 4!). show up around 11 and hang out and then at midnight get the game and go home. Standing around for a phone seems a little silly to me since there's no fanfare.

I remmember just waiting in line once and it was for the 3gs (my first iPhone) if I am not mistaken. The line was small and in less than 30m I received mine. Never again, I wasted my time doing such a thing. I don't get how people still doing it unless it is for making money reselling it. Just like Black Friday lines. People with too much time on their hands.

It’s amazing how Apple has me hooked. I’m not upgrading from my xs Max this year (just couldn’t rationalize the upgrade) but I really want to buy one just to be a part of the excitement and fun. Love those release day UPS refreshes and tracking it from China. Argh! :):)
What "excitement"? Seriously now?

There's gotta be financial incentive otherwise I can't fathom them sitting around wasting time. They're probably flipping them for a profit or for YouTube unboxing/review monetization clicks.

If you once did it why they can’t do it too? It may be their first iPhone as well.

Why? I just pre-ordered from the Apple app and have an in-store reservation at 9AM

I see two possibilities, a) they got too late into pre-order and the availability slipped or b) they want to see the colour options first before deciding.

Either way, no guarantee of stock at all.

How did you get the “in-store” option, not showing on my end.

You're so much smarter than everyone else.

And you sir, just saved me a lot of time. Thank you! They still had pre-orders available for the model I wanted.

Me too. People are odd. I pre ordered my 7 I think it was. Just walked in and paid. Boom. Was on a break from work near the Apple shop. People were there queuing as ‘walk ins’ while I arrived, and left. Even I get silly being drawn to the shop like a moth to a light.

I will NEVER understand this.

I stood in line for hours for the very first iPhone. Maybe the second as well.

However, once online preordering began, I never opted to do this again.

So why the hell are people doing this?

Those iPhone 11s were in abundant supply 8 hours into preorder day. I know as I ordered mine 8 hours in and having it delivered tomorrow.

The only line waiting I am going to be doing is at UPS in the morning. I am always first on line and never have to wait more than an hour.

PS: I have lousy UPS delivery. I don't get deliveries until 7-8pm. So, I don't mind picking up at my UPS center 10 hours earlier.
Lucky you! The ones in my area don’t go to UPS stores until 3 or 4pm. Compared to delivery that can fluctuates from 11am to 7:45pm. For Apple deliveries, they tend to be in the evening for me.
