Plenty in stock at our local Apple Store in Bluewater.

Got there and told the guy I wanted to buy one, said I had to book an appointment for 50 minutes time and come back to buy it, typical Apple store pretentiousness.

Ended up going round the corner to Carphone Warehouse, no queue and bought one in less than 5 minutes.

Each store should have a till or tills for those who want to buy something, not ask questions or faff about looking at them, those who want to go in, pay their money and walk out with a phone. Every time I have been in an Apple store, its a drama simply trying to buy something, its like they have to drag the process out for hours for no reason.

Fools! Apple warmed up that notch design very last time and phone with all new without notch is coming next year. Buy that and hold it for three years until the next big redesign comes.

I'll be buying this one and the next one. And I bought one the last time around too.

Sue me.

Too much free time

Since pre-orders have gone well the last two years, I haven't camped.

Before that, I camped out overnight for every single launch.

It's not a case of 'too much free time' as many self-righteous folks like to declare. It's often a case of people with flexible schedules, or the luxury to be able to do something like that. Besides, most of the 'time' is the evening when you wouldn't be doing other things anyway. For folks that are camping out, you get to hang out with people that are excited like you, meet lots of people, chat, watch movies, engage in hijinx periodically, etc. All in all it's a good time.

I was usually at the very front of the line. Most of the folks I met there were entrepreneurs or people like me that could work remotely (since I would usually get there the day before, I'd spend time in line working on my laptop). Which makes sense; these are folks with the disposable income to get the finest portable device money can buy. I don't recall meeting a single jobless person on any of those camp-outs.

My local store which is like 40 mins away, isn't letting me choose In Store pickup yet. Not sure why.

I am so glad that the iPhone upgrade doesn't require you to go to the store anymore to get your new phone. Long launch day lines are not something I have ever enjoyed in the least.

The iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max will soon be available in Australia and New Zealand before rolling out to other countries around the world, and customers have already started lining up to purchase one of Apple's new devices.

At the Orchard Road store in Singapore, where the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro will roll out in just a few hours, hundreds of people are waiting.

There's a similar scene at Apple's Ginza and Marunouchi stores in Japan, where some customers have started waiting for the new iPhones.

Customers still have several hours to wait in Europe, but lines have started at Apple's flagship Kärntner Straße store in Vienna, Austria.

Most U.S. stores don't appear to have long lines just yet, but people will likely start showing up at retail locations as the launch date draws nearer.

Apple's iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max models sold out rather quickly after pre-orders became available on September 13, so there may be a decent number of people hoping to get a new iPhone in store.

Orders placed for new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max models today won't be shipping out until October, which will increase demand for in store models.

Customers in the United States who did not pre-order and who are hoping for a launch day device should get to an Apple retail store or carrier store as early as possible.

Are you planning to wait in line for an Apple device this year? Let us know in the comments.

Cool. Nice to know people are still doing that. Did that one and it was fun. :)

I was in a line before 5AM for the 3g. And purchased the last one. It is fun as long as you get a phone!

Nice to see people still do it. Maybe I'll do it again for the Pixel 4.

Is this still really a thing? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Good to see the time honored tradition still stands.
It makes sense to wait in line for something scarce, a last chance event, or a first of its kind item. This is none of those things. Camping for a smartphone is just sad.

Waiting to upgrade my AW S1, I want to see the different finishes in person, so I took a ride this afternoon past the Walnut Creek,CA store and the line @ 2PM was wrapped around the building, so I will wait a little longer!

I’d just as soon wait another week and get it delivered to my door than deal with the crowds and the overwhelming likelihood that what I want is already sold out.

I will NEVER understand this.

I stood in line for hours for the very first iPhone. Maybe the second as well.

However, once online preordering began, I never opted to do this again.

So why the hell are people doing this?

Those iPhone 11s were in abundant supply 8 hours into preorder day. I know as I ordered mine 8 hours in and having it delivered tomorrow.

The only line waiting I am going to be doing is at UPS in the morning. I am always first on line and never have to wait more than an hour.

PS: I have lousy UPS delivery. I don't get deliveries until 7-8pm. So, I don't mind picking up at my UPS center 10 hours earlier.

Not everyone was that lucky last Friday. I ordered as soon as the store opened but already was pushed back to next week. I resigned myself to waiting another week and mostly ignoring these forums full of those who got lucky.

Went to the Tysons Apple store in McLean, VA, this afternoon, not to buy, but to at least lay hands and eyes on the new phones.....I knew that by that time there would not be any stock left, or at least in what I might decide I want. They had two lines outside the store, one for those picking up preordered items and the other for those hoping to buy a new iPhone or Apple Watch. I was able to walk right into the store and go over to one of the tables where the new iPhone 11 Pros were set up and look at, play with one for a while. I really like both the Midnight Green and the Space Grey. I've had Space Grey for years now, though, and I'm thinking it's time for a change..... I played with the three camera lenses, taking the same scene or subject with each, getting a sense of the visual differences in the three lenses, and that was fun. Since there were other people waiting to also fondle and have a hands-on plus visual experience with the new iPhone 11 Pros, I moved on. I didn't pay much attention to the iPhone 11 display models since I am not interested in purchasing or using one of those anyway.

Looked at the display of the new Apple watches and bands, then progressed further into the store to take a look at the various new colors for the iPhone cases. Of course by this time in the day many colors, styles and sizes were sold out, but that was fine as long as I could see a display model anyway.

Most of the staff, of course, was helping people with selection and purchasing of a new iPhone or Apple Watch, but they also did have other staff on the floor to offer help to anyone else who was looking for something else, and the Genius Bar had a number of folks wanting assistance with problems with their various devices. Probably most of the people there had no idea when they were booking their appointment that today was Launch Day for new iPhones! I saw a couple of folks with MBPs and someone with a Mac mini, plus a man heading for the Genius Bar clutching his 27" iMac.....

I got to wondering if the new Midnight Green iPhone Pros would have a matching dock in Midnight Green, so wandered over to the Accessories display wall to have a look. A young Apple employee came along offering assistance, and after I told her what I was interested in, checked the store inventory and said, nope, sorry....docks were available in Black and the other standard colors, but not the new Midnight Green.... No problem, just curious!

Another thing I wanted to look at while I was in the store was the new LG 24" external monitor, but someone was standing right in front of it and since I really was not there to seriously shop today anyway, I just gave the thing a quick overall glance and moved on.

In three or four weeks, whenever the new Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro with 256 GB storage comes into available inventory at the store, I'll be returning....this time, to actually make a purchase! :).

Very different experience from the days when I was over at the mall in the wee hours of the morn lining up and waiting for my chance to get my hands on the latest iPhone and take one home....

I did it once. Never again. It was one of the most miserable experiences. I live in Florida. The sun was baking down on us. The humidity was stifling. Drenched it sweat. People were passing out. It smelled like most of the people in line never took showers or wore deodorant. Rescue showing up for heat exhaustion. All for an iPhone.

I really like that LG 24" monitor. A lot (If there was a current Mac I could use that with*, I'd jump). Hope you get the chance to test it when you pick up your iPhone.

Whenever you get your new iPhone, enjoy it!

*Perhaps with the upcoming 16" MBP if it has a new keyboard.

We don't have Apple stores in India yet. But then we do have the rich people who spend the extra $ to fly the latest iPhone and have the coveted status of being the first person to own the iPhone in their city!
