Banknotes don't go offline, have server issues, have flat batteries or refuse to accept your fingerprint. Wait and see - when all this ridiculously overcomplicated technology falls flat on it's face, and when every shop has abolished cash payments, you're all going to be stuck with NO way to pay and NO GOODS.

But then again - please go ahead and carry on with your empty "protests" - seeing as you're all "entitled" Americans.

All this "anger" is pathetic, utterly childish and also rather hilarious :D

PS: I come from the UK, where we've had Chip N PIN for MANY YEARS. I could come to your good country and decry the lack of adoption of THAT... but all I care about is walking in, buying, and leaving - not making a scene over my "rights". LOL :D
So if Boots stopped supporting Chip N PIN, you'd just keep calm and carry on.

If Apple pay is THAT good, can I use it ANYWHERE? Without an iPhone 6(+)? No? So I have to pay £600+ for a phone, just to enable myself for a transaction payment for... £1.57?

Yeah... I can see that makes sense. How about Apple make a payment system that DOESN'T involve selling their hardware, for existing phones? Thought not.

Hey - Apple - how about changing Apple pay to work when the device battery IS DEAD? Not impossible - you'd just need a tiny backup battery (or solar power) with a mini payment OS in firmware, which talks to the TouchID sensor and secure element.

Come on - rev up that "creative engine" guys :D

This is a capitalist world mate. Therefore in order to achieve greater profits ideas are dreamed up to create some convenience which happens to be through a £600 device. Tie in.

you guys are all butt hurt because they don't use apple pay. I'm just curious how did you pay for stuff before apple pay was around? stop acting like its the end of the world, its not.

Some countries still barter with goats and vegetables. No fraud or unexpected charges, at least, and it encourages human interaction and fosters the making of friends and business contacts. :)

Stupid, stupid western world :D

LOL. You got that right mate :D

Uhm, I'll stick with my Moto G, prepaid mastercard and coins, but thanks. Hehe.

All Google and Apple needs to do is block CurrentC app from their app stores.

With these two companies having the lion's share of smartphone customers, that would be the end of CurrentC.

What a douchey move. Hey let's not support the two most popular mobile forms of payment because we want to use some other third party crap no one has ever heard of.

I don't use AMEX to due issues I had with AMEX. Plus not everyone take AMEX due to the higher fees paid by merchant. As for my bank and credit union, I like them... they have done well by me ( and I have used other banks but I have gone back to these two).

Not to flame war anything I get you here. This entire debacle about blocking Apple pay is not right. But they didn't break the law. It's their business. They do what they want even if it doesn't benefit consumers shopping at their stores. No point in complaining in a thread on macrumors gets you no where I'm not saying you are doing that just others are.

It's all alien to everyone at the moment once it gets popular people asking for it via comment cards or talking to their CS departments perhaps it will go mainstream. For now it's just growing pains

Oh look, I guess my years of prescriptions at CVS have just moved over to Walgreens. Ta ta, CVS! No more ridiculous scroll-print receipts either.

Then move there.... you wouldn't have deal with us stupid people from the Western World

Ultimately vendors won't be able to be choosy at the point of sale. It'll cost them some business. They will need to take several methods, just like they now take multiple forms of payment. Cash, credit, debit, visa, Amex, master, discover, nfc instead of swipe.

you guys are all ******** because they don't use apple pay. I'm just curious how did you pay for stuff before apple pay was around? stop acting like its the end of the world, its not.

Right, because we should all just be passive and shut up and let crusty old corporations such as CVS rollover us and never make progress when something clearly superior does come along.

No thanks. I'd rather live in a world that focuses on putting the consumer experience first and makes our lives more efficient.

So my physical credit card with the smart chip embedded will no longer work?
If so, good bye CVS and Rite Aid. You were way overpriced anyway.

The cashiers have no say. Minimum wage skill-less monkeys, high school kids making a little gas and date money.

Light up their twitter, social media, help, etc.

Exactly this! The cashiers, and even managers have no say in this. Complaining to them is pointless. Because there's nothing they can't do about this. The corporate doesn't listen to them.
What you can do if you have a CVS CARD take a customer satisfaction survey that CVS emails out. They do listen to those surveys. Those surveys are the single most important thing to CVS right now, and a low score or a negative comment is the worst thing for CVS store right now.

CVS Stores Reportedly Disabling NFC to Shut Down Apple Pay and Google Wallet

There's a intuitive assumption with capitalism, that competitors compete by adding more. That choice will always go up prices will always go down. That consumers will automatically come out the winners. But that's only half the story.

As shown today, competitors can also win by having less. By reducing options and consolidating power. And just like people who we don't vote for their government get the government they deserve, people who don't vote with their wallets get the products and stores they deserve.

Sad. You really don't get much of a choice between CVS or Walgreens (it's mainly decided via location. Walgreens is more of a Midwest/east coast thing, while CVS is more West coast/South). A large chunk of the population won't have a choice to switch due to this.

So this is a competition thing now. Completely excluding a form of payment because they want to use their own system.
I think they're objecting to anonymous payment, and the opportunity cost it imposes. MCX is an advertising/tracking platform masquerading as a payment platform. ApplePay is a threat to their plans.

Seriously are people really gonna stop shopping there becuz they stopped accepting apple pay? just use another form of payment.. something that we've been doing for decades. Sheesh.. no need to get ur panties in a bunch.

I'm guessing the banks are passing on the apple pay fees that Apple is charging to use apple pay to retailers maybe? That or they can't data mine but they also can't data mine with cash so I'm guessing it's fees they don't like. Sorta can't blame them. They already get dinged with credit card % now apple pay on top of that? Sucks for those that can't use nfc enabled cards. Thanks Apple.
