I guess if I was a teenage girl this announcement would have interested me.

Since I'm not, I don't find this announcement enticing.
This isn't what matters.

Nonetheless, it pretty cool that I'll be betting a new icon on my Apple TV (it just blows that none of their shows interest me)-even better still is that a network station has signed aboard!

Now I'm just hoping that this brings forth other network stations to the Apple TV.
This is! CW might not be everyone's favorite network, but once one network sees the brilliance of this, the others won't be far behind.

I could honestly see TBS doing this too, given that they've committed to live streaming on the web recently.

nice...Apple struck a deal with the red-headed stepchild of the cable networks.

The CW is not a cable network, it's a broadcast network. Just like NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX.

I do like this move. It is a step in the right direction. More networks need to do this or face being lost in a new media distribution model.

As a side note, I don't like anything on The CW, and I think Arrow is what is wrong with TV today. They keep turning every show into a romance drama. It's still a teen romance drama even if the guy occasionally goes around with a bow and arrow and fights crime, or ghosts, or flies a spaceship, or whatever. Though that may appeal to some, it makes fans of sic-fi turn away.

And we here in the UK just get Netflix and YouTube

We need BBC iPlayer, 4od, SKY Go, etc etc...

Very hard to sell Apple TV to someone in the UK...

arrow is actually a pretty good show...don't envision the other major networks joining suit, though...

Very hard to brake the tv barriers in the US. It has been at least three years. If this works, who knows how it will expand.

It is unclear if this is a subscription and or paid, or free with ads. If the latter, this is fantastic, as it sets the precedent. I could care less about CW, but if this is a preview of how Apple will roll out channels, then that's exciting.

It's free w/ads though it only shows the 5 or 6 most recent episodes I believe. The app is from CW and is available on :apple:TV and Xbox360. IMO this is more about CW testing the waters than it is a preview of Apple's future intentions.

It needs a lot more content.

Without my 2TB of videos in itunes I wouldn't use my ATV3 I think.

Apple needs to bring the Amazon Prime video app to Apple TV, like they did with Netflix and Hulu+.

Do you think Amazon will allow users to subscribe to their streaming service via iTunes. No? In that case l can't see it happening. I think Apples business model for AppleTV is to make recurrring revenues from the services it allows on its box, rather than making a profit on the hardware. For example, I subscribe to Netflix via iTunes and Apple must surely profit from this. How this works for a free-with-ads service I don't know, but I'm guessing Apple must somehow charge a network to get their app on AppleTV. In the past, iTunes has been seen as a way of selling more hardware, but I believe Apple now see it as a way to make profit.

I'm not a fan of CW, but this will hopefully pave the way for more (and better) content down the road. How about a Crackle app?

I would be surprised if Apple did that as it would fly in the face of their business model. Apple has some of the highest margins in the tech industry on its products and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
