Yup. Fully expecting these to be delayed until 2022 as well.
Having seen the visuals of the GTA5 next gen version, I am now unsure whether the next gen versions of W3 and CP2077 are worth holding out for.

W3 is already 60fps and enhanced for Xbox One X. Big meaningful improvements would entail utilising a new gaming engine for better shadows, lighting + texture. However the new engine used for CP2077 is broken.

Four months ago I bought GOTY W3 but have been waiting for the next gen version to play. However I am now considering not holding out and simply start playing the game this autumn.

I've re-loaded Cyberpunk on my computer and re-started playing. For a variety of reasons, I opted to start a new game instead of picking up where I last left off. Early in the game (just beginning the prologue, I'm leaning towards a pistol build, though I may want a sniper build. I will be looking to dump points into reflex.

I'm enjoying the game, though I'm not going full bore spending hours at a time in it. One thing I forgot was the time needed to set up your character and with that I'm a little disappointed - why spend all that time making him (or her) look a certain way when the only time you see him is when you look in a mirror. Plus deciding whether to go the street kid, corpo, or nomad path is all but useless it seems.

I waiting for PS5 upgrade before I try out the other two lifepaths. Like you said I wish it was more than just an intro.
I don't know what changed, since my first time in the game was when it was first released, but as a nomad, there were some things to do, before finding yourself starting the quest from Kirk in the bar. The street kid question starts off with you in the bar starting the Kirk project to steal the car

Overall, I am enjoying the game, though my expectations have been decreased given the issues, and what not

For an action RPG game, the weapon and game play mechanics are very sexy. Quick hacks, pistols, blades and the ability to double jump to very tell buildings is incredibly sexy.

Another play through is tempting. However since I bought an LG C1 I have been running many games at 60-120fps. Quality mode in CP2077 now feels choppy and borderline unplayable while performance mode looks previous gen.

I still haven't sold my physical copy because I am waiting for the XBX version. Hopefully it will edge visual quality towards PC e.g improved reflections under shadows, better and faster rendering of objects in the distance and less pop-in.

The game just isn't grabbing me, I didn't feel like playing for the past few weeks, I started it back up, and did one of those police thingies. I managed well enough but it just isn't motivating me to keep going. I may just remove it from my drive since its consuming almost 70gb and its just sitting there

That was pretty much my conclusion although I finished the game several times over. Waste of space, until CDPR delivers on their own words...

Having played Battlefield 4(2016) on my XBX today, I can say that the NPC behaviours and damage physics are ironically years ahead of CP2077.

I should probably also uninstall CP2077. My honest opinion is that the game has been written off. However, because CDPR is a listed business they can't make such a statement.

They have said enough to imply that that the game can't be fixed. To do so would entail redeveloping the game from stratch. Why do that when you are better off directing resources into developing the sequel and Witcher 4 in parallel.

Remember that it has taken them almost 9 months to make the PS4 & XBO versions stable.

The next gen version will likely just only bring ray tracing, improved reflections and 60fps for quality mode.

What irritates is that CDPR was clearly on the gamers side as of Witcher 3. Some say the success of Witcher 3 was very much unexpected with the actual dev's doing the hard work asking for a bigger share of the profit. As it goes CDPR said a hard no, resulting in many leaving the studio, to some extents that shows as Cyberpunk 2077 is clearly vastly inferior on the storyline alone.

IMHO Cyberpunk 2077 will never be what CDPR alluded or promised as they don't have the technical prowess, nor the ability to attract those that have. Sadly Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be smoke & mirrors and a cash cow for a minority.

Bottom line CDPR knowingly misled and lied to it's customers, they can fix this if they want over time or just keep ****ing the dog...

W3 was a blockbuster. This triggered the pressure of creating a new franchise they will be bigger and better. GTA level success is what they aimed for.

However developing the following all at the same time was unprecedented:
-New IP
-Complex story
-A world that's incredibly detailed vertically
-New graphics engine
-Versions for 9 platforms: Xbox one, Xbox One X, Series S, Series X, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Stadia and PC.
-New graphics tech: Ray Tracing, 60 FPS and DLSS

This is waaaaay too much to have ready on the very same day while having a separate multiplayer game in the pipeline.

However I am optimistic about the sequel. CDPR has the IP, Visual Arts and gigabytes of feedback from the community and press about what would make the sequel successful.

I think we all knew that as we saw the said state of the game, but they did say (at least early on) that it will be fixed, but I agree, there's too much inherently wrong with the game that only a re-engineering would address the situation.

The game seems overly complex for no real benefit - at least that's my take away.

As a listed company they have pressure to delivery good or optimistic news every quarter, even if it's false hopes. If they were a private business they could have kept their mouths closed or spoken the truth.

Parallel development of the CP2077 and W3 successors will start next year. That's just starting! It will likely take 2-3 years for the games to be developed and be ready for release. In the meantime, the best that they can do for CP2077 for turd polishing. This can appease staff and shareholders without the game becoming a money pit for dev resources.

I wonder how much of the issue was "we redid the game engine" related versus "we are trying to write story/content and are stuck" related.

But they also have a fiduciary responsibility to deliver bad news, and this is why they're facing lawsuits, by conveying inaccurate, if not down right lying info about the state of the game to investors.

Excellent question. Discussing this sheds light on why the game can't be fixed.

One of CDPR's most insightful admission is that they developed the RedEngine 4 and Cyberpunk in parallel.

This is like trying to build a village next a river by building several houses at the sometime as earth works, foundations and retaining walls are being built.

Instead of a village, you end up with a shanty town by a river. Fixing one unstable house ends up unsettling other homes and so forth.

The gaming engine is responsible for:
  • Physics
  • Player mechanics
  • NPC behaviour
  • Damage physics and
  • Rendering

If you have built a game on top of a poorly developed engine that is written in dirty code, you're in big trouble.

The first port of call for W4 and CP2077 successor is to develop an entirely new gaming engine. RedEngine4 will be scrapped because it's not good enough for a single player campaign and is unsuitable for online gameplay.

Have they said they are going to pivot away from RE4? Seems like doing so would cause issues just like they had going from RE3 to RE4.

I also have the feeling that the PC version of the Engine is less problematic than the 8th Gen console versions.

No statement about the future of RE4 has been made yet. CDPR have to decide on the path of least resistance whether it's to build a new engine or future develop RE4. Comparison videos of CP2077 against GTA5 reveal just how feature incomplete RE4 is across physics, damage, NPC behaviour, AI and animation. There's a lot of work to be done.

CDPR would need to rebuild the game to deliver on what was promised. Too much time, too much money. CDPR blatantly lied plain and simple. They can appease the shareholders all they want, equally the customer's pay the bills and the dev studio has torched it's credibility across the gaming community.

This is all on CDPR, their hubris, resulting in a waste of an important Sci-Fi IP. Payed DLC's my arse, they have to be joking...

Want to play Cyberpunk, play the Deus EX franchise is solid and actually for adults, not the kiddies unlike CP2077 which pretends to be edgy in places and has an excessive use of repetitive profanity in a game with no real depth of character.

I'd like to see CDPR come out of this mire on the bright side, equally seems unlikely at this point in time. As said the best and brightest may have already left due to poor management decisions...

Rockstar hasn't made a modern engined game in quite a while (RAGE is old). Looks like the definitive editions of GTA are using Unreal Engine. I wonder if GTA6 will use a newer version of RAGE, or if they will just switch to Unreal Engine.

The definitive editions of GTA are legacy games. Using UE will enable Rockstar to use contractors and 3rd party businesses for developing and maintaining those games. As a result, more internal resources can be devoted towards GTA6.

Yeah it sucks but I would much rather a stable version be released for PS5 than another janky mess.
They have the PC version, I wonder what is the underlying issue for using that as the base instead of trying to update the 8th gen console versions.

As we have discussed before, there are hardly any proper next gen games that push the PS5 and Series X. Developers and gaming studios are clearly not having an easy time building next gen games from the ground up.
