Klarg is a bugbear, much bigger and stronger than a goblin
But he is taking a lot of punishment from the gobblers
Glad we convinced them to turn sides!

Edit: nevermind, didn't see plutonius post

We don't officially know the bugbear stats, and it is up to DM to disclose them for new monsters.
The common ones we can assume that, as adventurers in these land, we are famiiar with. Others less so.
One could do a knowledge check to see if they know, or at least have an idea.
You (syllin) would be the most indicated for this, except you just mistook him for a goblin, so you obviously do not know. :)
Also, in our games it is customary for DMs to indicate in narration whether the monster of unknown hp is getting seriously hit or not (he shrugs the arrow away, ignores the cut, balks, slows down, labored breath, is in pain, bleeds profusely, etc) to reflect the fact that we would be able to recognize how a creature in combat is doing, even if we don't know the exact stats

Ah, slightly embarrassed cough, my studies took me in other directions, something I suspect that my Grandsire sought to remedy when he suggested me for this quest. A period hauled away from my scrolls, texts, and books and attending to - and having to learn a bit a little about - the challenges of the Authentick Real World was something he long was of the opinion that would benefit me greatly.

Besides, it is lamentably clear that there were areas of study that eluded me, or held little interest for me.

Clearly, deep immersion in bestiaries are called for when I next darken the door of a Wizard Library, in the University for Sages and Sorcerers……….as bugbears as not the only strange beast I can expect to encounter….

in your defense, they both are goblinoids, so they are somewhat related

*To myself: Klarg appears to be a most resilient goblin, and impressively resistant - to attempts to hasten his demise.*

To, @ravenvii, just exactly how injured is Klarg, after this series of attacks on his stoutly well defended person?

Braver than most. My observation of goblins is that it does not usually take that much adversity for them to fold.

It remains to be seen how greedy the new goblin leader is.

You mean the gentleman goblin who has tried to depose Klarg, and enlisted our aid in pursuit of this endeavour?

Braver than most. My observation of goblins is that it does not usually take that much adversity for them to fold.

We have been informed that Klarg is goblinoid, rather than purely a goblin, which makes him a bit more…..impervious to serious injuries and sundry other war wounds.

> Nicely done, master Veit!

After Portia does what Portia does, i use my javelin to attack Klarg if he is still alive, or the wolf if he is not

@ravenvii, orders: Target Klarg with my bow or target the wolf with my bow if Klarg is down.

After I attack, shout to the new goblin leader: "I apologize for not trusting you. I thought you would have attacked us after you saw the bag of gold that the Count (points at the Count) was carrying."

*To myself: When I find the section in a bestiary that describes, discusses, deals with and explains 'bugbears', I shall put a nice, fat, bookmark in it. That is, after I have read, and digested what it has to say on the topic.*

> ha! after i am done with it, the whiskey would just pour out of the holes and would be wasted!
I say, while throwing my best javelin at the monstrous beast
The arrow was immediately followed up by a javelin thrown by Bartholomeus. It flies towards Klarg, and --

*** CHECK ***
16 and + so:

Bartholomeus: 3
*** CHECK ***

-- but Klarg knocked it aside with his morningstar. Roaring with rage, Klarg brings the morningstar over his head with both heads, and swings down towards Veit, hard --

*** CHECK ***
Veit has an AC of 18, and Klarg has +4, so:

Klarg: 18

And the damage is 11. Veit is out.
*** CHECK ***

-- just as Veit raises his shield. The morningstar broke the shield into two and went right through, hitting Veit's face. Veit was knocked a few feet aside, his head bleeding profusely.

>>> @Plutonius you're up!
>>> I want to make a note. Klarg hits for TWICE the damage when using melee. This is especially dangerous for you because some of you have less than 11 HP. If the damage done to you is enough to take you to more than the negative of your maximum hp, you die instantly -- permanently. Keep this in mind during the battle.

Hm.

So, Master Veit is borderline comatose, smashed with a damned morningstar, the javelin of Ser Bartholomeus was casually deflected with that same morningstar, and Portia's arrow bounces off the creature's armour.

We appear to be facing a stupendously strong opponent. Small wonder that some of the goblins sought aid for their planned coup d'état.

Nothing that a magic missile will not kill after all the other damage it has taken :D.
