Jobs will probably announce the iPhone launch date but it deserves its own "launch." I can see Apple doing a seperate "Media Event" for that. Why should Leopard take a back seat?

Unless Apple is planning 3rd party developer support the iPhone of course...

They are using Google apps online as the answer to MS-Office file compatibility.

Some sort of modular iMac with the headless low end replacing the mini would be cool, but so unlike past Apple products. They tend to have an all-in-one approach generally. It would be compatible with their new BTO emphasis.

Rocketman

I agree. Outside of allowing 3rd party development, the iPhone is completely irrelevant to WWDC. Honestly, it's probable that he won't even say the word 'iPhone' once throughout the course of his keynote. The iPhone has nothing to do with software development.

Of course, one could argue 'Same with the supposed MBP update'. But I'm still holding out for that announcement... Don't software developers normally use MBP's?

"This year's hyped event is a joint interview with both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates..."

I look forward to this the most. It will be a good match to see both those titans in the ring.

EXACTLY my thoughts. I'm surprised that the rest of this forum isn't all over this. This is the real news. We all know that we'll get a nice taste of Apple at WWDC, and the iPhone will be here very soon, no matter how many or few weeks or days we have to wait, but this...THIS could get dirty.

Any bets on Gates' comeback to the IN PERSON accusations? If he's smart, he'll respond with "Linux did it first" to everything.

Pun intended?

What in person accusations? And for the record, he's not smart. I saw an interview with him by Meredith Viera right around the time Vista was released. And she was asking the questions one might expect, i.e., why should the average user want to upgrade, what's the price, what about the Get A Mac ads, etc. And his answers were pretty defensive and made him look stupid. He actually lied when she asked how much it costs. He said the users upgrading to Vista will find that it is 'under $100'. Okay, so the Vista Home Basic version is $99.99... And that's the cheapest version. He didn't specify which version, he just said it costs under $100 to upgrade.

If they don't release or announce the release of the iPhone, my hope is that they will at least release some pricing info with regards to the monthly cost.

How far into the future does Apple schedule events?

Why would AT&T go to the trouble of printing up posters with the June 11 date? The main reason they'd put a date on a poster is to announce the availability of the iPhone on that date. But there's no way in hell they'd be allowed to announce the date of availability in advance, right? Once the phone is out, of course they'll put up posters, but, at that point, the date of availability is past, so there's no need to print a date.

There is one other possibility. If you notice there is no real information on what is available June 11. I think it means that some time in the next 2 weeks it will be announced that June 11 is the day one can start to pre-order the Apple Phone. It will not ship until June 29 or so , but it will give Apple and ATT enough time to start planning demand.

iTunes Store still has not rolled today, so I am assuming the regular Tuesday update will not be until Wednesday or later this week.

Anyone know whether this is typical for holiday weeks?

A surprise music event/announcement tomorrow, maybe?

It's a shame in some ways that Leopard and iPhone have not been released because it means that SJ can only really talk about what's about to be released whereas BG has had Vista out for some time now. Then again BG knows that he can't really criticize SJ over product delays without the long wait for Vista raising its ugly head. I suspect that the two will join forces on telling us how the future will be mobile, instantaneous, always on, and BG will get to ride the wave, because SJ will be too polite to knock MS down in person, and if the anti-MS ads get mentioned he will say 'that's just advertising'.

.....so there is no way to get a live feed of WWDC?

Not in form of live video. But there are some people sitting in with their laptops/smartphones that will constantly post information as it is given in the keynote.

Just come back to this site (www.macrumors.com) once the keynote has started. That's been done very well in the past, and you have like a newsticker that reloads once a minute automatically. I remember several times where I sat in front of my computer watching it, eating snacks and drinking like in a movie. I'm planning on having some people come over so we can enjoy together again. The atmosphere when something extremely cool is shown is like when a point was made in your national sport ("yay", "wohooo", clap hands).

The last one even had some cellphone made pictures. Very cool!

Like I said, Give us all the leopard we can eat during WWDC and then he can spend as much time on the iphone as he wants.

I'm going out on a limb here and will guess that Steve either doesn't mention the iPhone at all or only touches on it briefly. For one thing, he already used one "Mac" presentation to talk almost completely about the iPhone so I think he's going to feel some need to balance things out and since this is a developers conference, many of them want to hear about the core platform which is Macs and OS X.

You can argue that he'd be insane to throw away a golden opportunity to market the iPhone a little more but imagine how much further the hype would go if he just didn't even mention it. It would throw legions of geeks and tech journalists into fits of anxiety and several million words worth of commentary and posts would spill out on the Internet within 24 hours as everyone tries to figure out why Steve didn't talk about the iPhone, further spurring the hype. :D

Depends ok how tick-off was Steve with the AT&T statement about June 11. Steve may have moved it just to teach AT&T to keep their mouth shut.

Other third parties had their contract yanked out for opening their mouth. Not that this is going to happen with AT&T, but a delay of a week or 2 may had happend.

Steve likes to be the one that announces everything.

Of course, one could argue 'Same with the supposed MBP update'. But I'm still holding out for that announcement... Don't software developers normally use MBP's?

Developers have a solid interest in where the platform as a whole is going which includes Macs, not just OS X or programming APIs, so any mention of Macs or future computers or unveilings is perfectly in line with the audience expectations. The iPhone and iPod are only peripheral concerns as they contribute to the overall health of the company many of the developers create their products for. That's why Steve usually has a financial type presentation about the iPods ("Here's our marketshare... here's how many we sold..." etc.) and the rest is OS X- or Mac-related.

When I heard about the Mini disappearing, my first thought was "low end tower". I hope it's true! Preferably it wouldn't include a display though, lots of people already have them.

Some people here would disagree, however I think that Apple needs an answer for the MS Home Server, so a mini tower may be in the cards. Running a 5 license OSX server.

Bingo!

...with some tiny text in one corner spelling out "Not to be displayed until June 11th, 2007".

The latter, I believe, in some form is quite common on most marketing materials.

I think this is spot on - after The Steve talks about the Iphone during the Macworld keynote, the ATT advertising will begin.

The posters go up after the keynote. No secrets will be spilled, since Jobs will spend most of the keynote on the Iphone, and there won't be any secrets left.

I'm probably ignorant.... but.... what's a vacation blockout?

no one is allowed to schedule vacation AFTER the blackout is announced for the period specified.

depending on how they implement it, people that have already scheduled vacation prior to the blackout announcement might be able to keep their vacation plans intact. But after the blackout announcement, you would not be able to schedule vacation for the period specified.

The point being to keep everybody at work due to heavy workloads for the blackout period.

How long is the keynote?

I remember a while ago that the keynote had been blocked off for more time than usual. At the time it was speculated that this was just due to scheduling and that the full time would not be used. Has this changed, or should we anticipate a longer than usual keynote that might cover the iphone and leopard? ?

Here's what I've heard from a Cingular salesperson out in California, he's related to a co-worker of mine who knows I really want an iPhone. I've been told that the release date is going to be june 17th. Which doesn't make sense, but maybe that means Cingular stores will be getting the iPhone in store and setup on that Sunday. It's the sunday after WWDC, which I'll be at, so I think that we might be getting something in the form of a keynote following WWDC. There are a lot of OSX features that tie into Leopard and the iPhone, so who knows. It's all a guessing game right now, in 12 days we'll know more. Until then???

This will be controversial but I hope one of the secret features unveiled will be that OS X will be a standalone product for certain PC's as well that have that EFI or whatever. Apple could have some innovative Software Update style device that allows all component manufacturers to upload their drivers to a single directory that will automatically download to the PC to keep seamless functionality. Plus leopard will allow you to run windows, it's intel native--everything's in place to let OS X into the wild and overtake the market!
